UMC is looking for a Senior Epidemiologist to join our Pharmacovigilance Science section and strengthen our research into medicines safety using global safety and healthcare data. Since 1978, Uppsala Monitoring Centre (UMC) has been dedicated to developing, supporting, and expanding the field of pharmacovigilance science and practice. As a World Health Organization (WHO) Collaborating Centre, we support work around the world to examine the potential adverse effects of medicines and vaccines and contribute to safer, more informed care of patients. We are a diverse, international group of pharmacists, physicians, data scientists, system developers, communicators, and many other professionals motivated by a deep belief that the work we do matters. About the role As a Senior Epidemiologist, you will contribute epidemiological expertise to our research and scientific development activities. Working at the intersection of epidemiology, pharmacovigilance, and real-world data, and with VigiBase, the WHO global database of adverse event reports, as well as other healthcare databases and registries, you will design, conduct, and interpret studies that strengthen our understanding of medicine safety and support evidence-based decision-making. This is a hands-on role spanning the full research process, from study design and data management to statistical programming, analysis, and scientific reporting. Working closely with colleagues across disciplines, you will help generate evidence that advances the science and practice of pharmacovigilance. You will join an international research environment dedicated to advancing the science of pharmacovigilance and improving the safer use of medicines globally. A demonstrated record of scientific output, such as peer-reviewed publications or technical reports. Experience providing methodological guidance on study design, execution, and interpretation. Demonstrated experience programming and conducting epidemiological analyses using R and/or SQL (or another statistical programming language). Excellent written and spoken English. Desired qualifications A PhD in epidemiology, pharmacoepidemiology, public health, biostatistics, or a related discipline. WORK TASKS The Department of Bioinformatics and Genetics at the Swedish Museum of Natural History is offering a two-year Postdoc position focused on Floral Traits, Machine Learning and Macro-evolution. This project aims to investigate the evolution of flower size on oceanic islands by combining phylogenetic comparative methods with machine learning-based extraction of trait data from digitised botanical floras. The successful candidate will develop computational workflows to generate large-scale, standardised datasets of floral traits and use these to test hypotheses about the predictability and drivers of flower-size evolution in island systems. As a postdoc in this project, you will work with developing methods in ML, integrate macro-phylogenetic tools to understand floral trait evolution on islands. The preferred start date is 01-10-2026. The selected candidates will be offered a PhD position in one of the laboratories specializing in "Nano + Light" at Chalmers. These positions are special in the sense that this is not an individual PhD call, but rather a broader selection process aiming at attracting students especially interested in the combination of nanotechnology and light. This, among other things, includes research disciplines like nanophotonics, metasurfaces, quantum and nonlinear optics, super-resolution fluorescence imaging, photoswitches, optomechanics, plasmonics, exciton transport, integrated photonics, etc. A PhD exam in Nano+Light is the perfect start for your career, whether you aim at academic research at the highest level, advancing technology and business ideas in major companies, or spinning off your own idea into a start-up company. Who we are looking for The following requirements are mandatory: To qualify as a Doctoral student, you must have a Master's degree (masterexamen) of 120 credits or a Master's degree (magisterexamen) of 60 credits* in natural sciences or engineering. You will need strong written and verbal communication skills in English Personal competences in accordance with the requirements profile, including specification (e.g., social skills, meaning that you enjoy collaborating with others) *For students with an education earned outside of Sweden, a 4-year Bachelor's degree is accepted.
