The European Spallation Source (ESS) is one of the largest science and technology infrastructure projects being built today. We are now looking for an Instrument Scientist for the HEIMDAL powder diffractometer. The position is with the Diffraction & Imaging Division. About the division The Diffraction & Imaging Division consists of the scientific staff that are leading the instrument construction projects and the staff that will eventually execute the day-to-day operations of six neutron instruments. The upcoming responsibilities of the division are Finalize the installation and commissioning of all instruments in the division Deliver state-of-the-art scientific capabilities for internal and external users to enable the wider science community to advance science and technology Deliver scientific results from the neutron instruments in collaboration with the user community and other divisions in the science directorate Plan and implement further developments and upgrades of the instruments Push the state-of-the-art capabilities of neutron instrumentation to make maximum benefit from the ESS source. The position Production processes at IRnova include test measurements and characterization of the products - large imaging arrays and integrated modules. Characterization processes employ a great deal of interdisciplinary knowledge and skills, such as technical physics, automation and electronic equipment, applied and system programming and mechanical design. About the research project The project that you will work with focuses on the developent of a new thermal imaging system with the aim to improve the efficiency of biomass conversion in power plants. The work combines advanced radiation and CFD modeling and the use of spectrometer and camera-based data. You will be part of the groups teams that works on related topics and together we will develop a new diagnostic set-up and conduct experiments on different scales. The research group that you will be part of has a strong track record in developing experimental and modeling tools to study and advance novel high-temperature processes used for industrial and power generation purposes. We have our own experimental facilitites at Chalmers campus, but we will also conduct experiments on an industrial site. CD is responsible for building world class competence across our dealer network by delivering innovative, efficient and people-centric training that strengthens skills, enhances knowledge and supports exceptional customer experiences. Within Competence Development, Technical Training is one of several key training domains. In addition to technical training for workshop technicians, CD also delivers commercial, sales, onboarding and role-based training to support customer facing employees across the dealer network. Together, these areas ensure a holistic and consistent competence development approach. Our mission in CD is to empower both workshop technicians and customer facing roles through modern learning solutions. This includes instructor-led training, digital learning tools, new ways of learning, coaching approaches and initiatives that support attracting, developing and retaining diverse talent in the dealer network. Technical Training focuses on developing and delivering training solutions for workshop technicians, with strong collaboration across CD and with our global training network. We work closely with a global network of trainers through a train the trainer concept, enabling consistent, high quality training delivery while allowing local adaptation. This network is also actively involved in our training development projects. Many technicians in the dealer network work with both Volvo Trucks and Renault Trucks, which is why we cooperate closely with the Technical Training team at Renault Trucks in Lyon. Our work is carried out in close collaboration with: Sales Areas and Market Companies Volvo Trucks Product Management and other head office functions Trucks Technology & Industrial Division Through Competence Development, we contribute to long term capability building, including initiatives such as dealer onboarding, leadership support during change, and the evolution of Volvo VISTA as an integrated part of daily learning and continuous development — more than a competition, but a way to build competence over time. What will you do? In this role, you will: Develop instructor-led training courses and online learning solutions for a global audience Translate complex technical content into clear, structured and engaging learning material Act as a trainer in a train-the-trainer setup, handing over training solutions to market companies and supporting local trainers Deliver training mainly at the Training Centre in Gothenburg, with opportunities to teach at other Volvo locations around the world Work closely with colleagues in Technical Training, technical specialists across the organization, and the global trainer network You will be an important contributor to the continuous improvement of how we develop and deliver technical training, combining structure, creativity and collaboration. QualificationsWe believe great candidates can come from different backgrounds.
