In this senior, hands-on role, you will provide technical leadership across a specialist team of engineers working with cloud-based data infrastructure, business intelligence tooling, and client-facing analytics products. This is the perfect opportunity for someone technically deep who has the patience, credibility, and leadership skills to embed modern engineering discipline into a growing data function. You will sit at the intersection of technology delivery and data engineering, owning the data platform roadmap and governing the quality of all data outputs. Operating as an agile team leader, you will collaborate closely with operational, clinical, and commercial stakeholders to ensure the delivery of trusted, scalable, and beautifully documented data products. You'll be responsible for bringing software engineering rigour to a team expanding its technical maturity, establishing the right ways of working from the outset. As a Senior Data Engineer, you will define and own the data platform architecture while establishing team-wide standards across source control, environment management, peer reviews, and release processes. You will blend high-level strategy with hands-on automation, ensuring data quality checks are built-in from day one. Additionally, you will guide your squad through Agile sprint ceremonies and line-manage engineers to foster a culture of quality. What you'll be working on * Define and own the technical architecture of the cloud data platform, ingestion pipelines, and semantic reporting layer. * Establish and enforce core engineering standards, including Git-based source control, branching strategies, environment management, and peer code reviews. * Design scalable, maintainable data models and pipeline architectures that shift the function from reactive data handling to reusable data products. * Line-manage and mentor a team of three engineers, supporting their professional development in modern engineering discipline through collaborative working. * Drive the adoption of Agile methodologies, including sprint planning, stand-ups, retrospectives, and structured backlog refinement. * Proactively automate recurring workflows, forecasting processes, and ingestion monitoring to reduce manual effort and increase reliability. * Embed strict data quality checks at the point of ingestion and establish data dictionaries to secure strict metric governance before data reaches external audiences. * Translate complex business requirements into deliverable user stories, providing accurate effort estimates and managing technical dependencies. What you’ll bring to the team You are a solution-driven data leader who has spent time working within or alongside structured software development teams. You understand the rigour of technology delivery functions and possess a low tolerance for ambiguous data definitions. You are highly collaborative, capable of managing complex roadmaps, and excel at translating technical trade-offs into clear insights for non-technical stakeholders. * Proven experience in a senior data engineering or tech lead role with direct line management responsibility. * Strong hands-on experience with cloud data platforms, ideally utilizing Azure Data Factory, Azure SQL, or Synapse Analytics. * Demonstrable experience implementing CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, environment management, and Git practices within a data team. * Deep understanding of fact/dimension design, semantic layers, and advanced BI tool development (ideally Power BI and DAX). * Solid coding or scripting experience (ideally Python) used to automate data workflows and solve complex pipeline challenges. * Track record of introducing and sustaining agile delivery practices, backlog management, and iterative delivery metrics. * Exceptional communication skills to engage credibly with senior operational, clinical, and commercial business leaders. * Experience establishing data functions from a low baseline, familiarity with dbt, or experience working within highly regulated data environments like healthcare would be beneficial.

Having successfully deployed this system across UEFA competitions, we are now expanding our remote operations to include the Premier League and Championship. Based in the Remote Operations Centre (ROC) at Hawk-Eye’s Head Office in Basingstoke, you'll play a crucial role in operating cutting-edge technology, liaising with Hawk-Eye colleagues on the ground across the UK, and a range of external stakeholders, contributing to the excitement of live sports events. Throughout the day you will be faced with several hard deadlines in which you will have to meet in order for the service to run effectively and efficiently. Initially, you will spend the first part of your day testing communications, calibrating, and optimising the technology. This ensures GLT is fully operational two hours prior to kick-off, allowing match officials to test its integrity. Warm up is our final opportunity to ensure the system is fully functional before we enter the live match. During the live match you will be monitoring the data, fine tuning the calibration and constantly preparing to produce a virtual replay for broadcasters should a goal line incident occur and activate our GLT system. AVAILABILITY AND TRAINING: Please Note: While this is a casual contract, matches take place strictly according to the football calendar. The journey will begin with training and testing during global sporting events from July and into August. It is crucial that you are able to provide a good level of availability to regularly contribute and participate in these exposure and training opportunities over the initial training period. The ultimate goal is that by the opening weekend of the Premier League in August we will have a pool of operators who are ready to deliver GLT across multiple competitions. This role will have an initial focus on UEFA Football events while you train and gain experience in operating our system, with successful candidates then being given further exposure during our EPL and EFL operations. A typical shift would start 6 hours before the designated kick-off time to set up and test technology. The end of the shift is dependent on service, but typically would be 1 or 2 hours after the match has finished. WHAT DIFFICULTIES MIGHT I FACE? Up to this point, while there may be many things that you find intriguing about this role, the difficulties you may face should not be ignored. * Working Hours: Due to the nature of the sports industry, there is often work on weekends and midweek evenings, and we are expected to fulfil our roles until the final whistle and takedown is complete. * High-Pressure Situations: Working in a live broadcast environment on a production that is distributed to millions worldwide will bring high levels of pressure. Who we are Sapien is rethinking how finance teams operate in the age of AI. We're building toward an autonomous CFO—systems that run company financials end-to-end. Our platform analyzes complex financial data in real time to increase decision cadence, prevent costly mistakes, and surface value. Sapien has caught multi-million-dollar errors, saved thousands of jobs, and returned significant dollars to customers' bottom lines. We partner with traditional businesses—manufacturing, healthcare, restaurants, and large enterprises—to deeply understand and automate their financial workflows. We're HQ'd by Madison Square Park in NYC and backed by General Catalyst, Neo, and top operators from Google, OpenAI, Microsoft, Ramp, and Stripe (over $9M raised). THE ROLE Community is a first-class function at Sapien—not a marketing channel, not a nice-to-have. It's how we build trust with finance leaders, find the people we want to work with, and reinforce the culture that makes this company run. You'll work closely with the CEO as a hybrid community builder, talent scout, and chief of staff. We're looking for someone who understands the tech and finance ecosystem—likely from a few years in VC, startup ops, or a similar seat where you were constantly building relationships, evaluating people, and connecting dots. WHAT YOU'LL DO * Own events end-to-end. Plan and execute weekly dinners, monthly hiring events in NYC, and CFO dinners in NYC plus two additional cities each month. Manage the full Sapien event calendar on Luma—reading groups, team events, and external programming. * Run recruiting outbound and pipeline. Source candidates through LinkedIn, Sales Navigator, and warmer channels. Set up coffee chats, support screening, and move candidates through the funnel in Ashby. * Build the candidate experience. Make sure every prospective hire feels the Sapien community before day one—personal outreach, event invites, LinkedIn shoutouts for new teammates. Capture photos at events and across the team. * Track what's working. Own KPIs across community and recruiting: event-to-interview conversion, touchpoints to hire, channel performance. Use data to improve the process, not just report it. * Set the internal rhythm. Organize in-office programming—AI reading groups, poker nights, team dinners—and make sure those moments are captured and shared. * Support the CEO on cross-functional projects. Pick up high-leverage work across ops, eng, and GTM as it comes up—whatever the team needs most. WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR * 2–5 years in venture capital, startup operations, talent/recruiting, or a community-facing role in tech. * Natural relationship builder. People remember meeting you. You follow up and connect dots between people and opportunities without being asked. * Event planning chops. You've run dinners, panels, meetups, or recruiting events—and you know the difference between a forgettable happy hour and an evening people talk about afterward. You can also handle the unglamorous side: booking flights, coordinating travel, managing calendars. * Strong written communication. You can draft a LinkedIn post, a candidate outreach message, an event recap, and an eng blog brief all in the same afternoon. * Data-driven. You track what matters and use your numbers to decide where to invest time. * Fluent in tech and/or finance. You understand how startups work, how hiring works, and how finance teams think. You can hold a real conversation with a CFO and with a seed-stage founder. * Flexibility across tools. You'll live in Ashby, Luma, LinkedIn, and Sales Navigator daily. HOW YOU WORK (VALUES WE CARE ABOUT) * AI-native. You're energized by applying AI to transform how businesses run. * Ambiguity-shaping. You turn nebulous problems into a first pass and drive to resolution. * Extreme ownership. You identify what's next—and do it. If you say it, it gets done. * Speed & hustle. You bias to action and move with urgency without sacrificing quality.
