G-båtförare ingår i en IBSS-grupp som löser uppgifter självständigt. G-båtföraren skall kunna bistå gruppchef vid planering för uppgiftslösande med båt. Härutöver tillkommer särskilt beordrad beredskap eller andra uppdrag.
