About the role The position has a central role in education at both bachelor’s and master’s level. You will be responsible for the basic course in Engineering Geology (6 credits), which is mandatory for all first-year civil engineering students (approximately 220 students). In addition, you will contribute to courses in Geotechnics and Infrastructure at third-year, as well as several master’s courses, such as Applied Hydrogeology, Geological and Geotechnical Site Characterization, Contaminated Sites and Remediation, and Risk Assessment and Decision Support. The role includes course planning, development and coordination, as well as supervision of students at bachelor’s and master’s levels. You are expected to take on the role of examiner over time. If not already fulfilled, higher education pedagogical training in accordance with SUHF recommendations should be completed within two years. About the department and the division The Department of Architecture and Civil Engineering tackles contemporary and emerging challenges for the built and natural environment, ranging from resource utilisation, pollution and climate change to digitalisation and inequality. We combine expertise in architecture, civil engineering and related disciplines to build a better world.  The Engineering Geology research area at Chalmers is well established, with a professorship since 1949. It is nationally and internationally recognised for high-level research in applied hydrogeology, drinking water supply, underground construction, planning and use of geological resources, remediation of contaminated areas, as well as risk and decision analysis linked to these fields. The research area consists of approximately 15 full-time researchers along with affiliated researchers. Teaching is conducted at both bachelor’s and master’s levels and is closely connected to geotechnical and infrastructure engineering, reflecting both current research and the needs of society and industry. Main responsibilities The main duties involve teaching at the first and second cycle levels. About the research project   Project: Practice-based school research in mathematics education Since 2017, Chalmers has been a part of the national initiative on practice-based school research within the framework of ULF (Education, Learning & Research, ulfavtal.se). The purpose of the initiative is to strengthen the long-term development of the Swedish school system and the teacher and preschool teacher education programs through deepened collaboration around practice-based research. Researchers in mathematics education at the Department of Mathematical Sciences have participated in several research projects that, among other things, have investigated the effects of test-based learning, the use of vertical surfaces, and student-generated clues for solving problems. The projects have been initiated and implemented in close collaboration with teachers at the training schools affiliated with Chalmers' teacher education program, Learning and Leadership. The overarching goal of the project is to further deepen the collaboration around practice-based school research together with our training schools. To make this possible, a postdoctoral position is planned with the assignment to, in close dialogue with principals and teachers, identify challenges within mathematics teaching, formulate research questions based on these, and carry out the research projects together with the school's teachers. About the research project Despite increasing research on car-free households, there is still a lack of understanding of how car owners and non-car owners differ in their mobility patterns, satisfaction, and use of mobility services such as car-sharing, cargo-bikes, and attitudes toward emerging technologies such as shared autonomous vehicles. This project addresses that gap through a mixed-method study combining survey data with in-depth interviews. An interdisciplinary approach, integrating systems and policy perspectives with behavioral psychology, will deepen the analysis. Who we are looking for The following requirements are mandatory: A doctoral degree in transportation, urban planning, psychology or other relevant fields. This eligibility requirement must be met no later than the time the employment decision is made Strong written and verbal communication skills in English Experience in mixed-method analysis, ie. both qualitative and quantitative analysis Ability to work both independently and in interdisciplinary research teams You are expected to be somewhat accustomed to teaching, and to demonstrate good potential within research and education.
