We are looking for a highly motivated PhD student to join the Division of Supply and Operations Management at the Department of Technology Management and Economics, Chalmers University of Technology. We offer an employment of up to five years. The successful candidate will engage in a research project focusing on resilience and business networks. The project is led from Chalmers and joint with Swedish School of Textiles, University of Borås, School of Business, Economics, and Law, University of Gothenburg, and the Norwegian University of Science and Technology, and in collaboration with industry. About us The Department of Technology Management and Economics conducts research and education at the intersection of technological development and management/policy. The division of Supply & Operations Management (SOM) research relates to supply chain management, and areas, such as, purchasing, industrial marketing, business networks, supply chain strategy, operations planning and control, material handling and freight transport. Digitalization, circularity and resilience are important drivers and enablers. Our goal is to perform high quality research and education at bachelor, master and doctoral levels. About the research project Over the past decade, several events have caused major disruptions to global transport and supply chains. The project aims to examine, through case studies, the opportunities and obstacles shaping the development of resilient supply chains in a turbulent geopolitical environment. The project will involve three sub-studies focusing on different industrial applications: (1) fashion products, (2) advanced transport solutions, and (3) logistics, transport, and distribution services. Are you interested in advancing materials for safe and reliable nuclear power using cutting-edge characterization techniques? Join our team at Chalmers to explore corrosion mechanisms in zirconium alloys at the atomic scale and contribute to the development of next-generation nuclear materials. About us The research at the Division of Microstructure Physics focuses on experimental investigations of engineering materials using advanced characterization techniques. We mainly use electron microscopy, atom probe tomography (APT) and large scale facilities (synchrotron and neutron scattering). The research primarily deals with the relation between microstructure and properties, and how this relationship is influenced by processing and in-service degradation. Among the materials studied, steel, hard coatings, zirconium alloys and high entropy materials are central. The applications are often related to energy and sustainability. About the research project Nuclear fuel is enclosed in cladding tubes made from zirconium alloys. To improve reactor safety and economic performance, new alloys are continuously being developed. In this project, the corrosion behaviour of a novel zirconium alloy will be investigated to improve our understanding of the underlying corrosion mechanisms and support the development of next-generation materials. Advanced characterization techniques, including electron microscopy and atom probe tomography, will be used to study corrosion processes at the atomic scale. The SmartRESs project is part of the Halmstad University ProActS research program, a multidisciplinary research collaboration on sustainability and circularity. The PhD project is inherently interdisciplinary, uniquely combining innovation science, energy technology, and computer science to study how circular, sustainable, and renewable energy systems can be designed, implemented, and adopted within SMEs. The research project integrates perspectives and methods from all disciplines, and the PhD student is expected to engage in all parts while the exact balance between innovation-oriented and technical work can be adapted to the PhD students background, interests, and competencies. The PhD student will have a supervision team which includes experts from all fields. For the innovation science perspective, the PhD student will map and describe the value creation potential of SmartRESs in SMEs. This includes investigating barriers, drivers, value intentions, and organizational conditions that affect implementation of SmartRESs, and how the system is perceived and adopted by business managers and decision makers. For the perspective of energy technology and computer science, the PhD student will develop a model using data from collaborating SMEs to simulate the potential gains from SmartRESs. Furthermore, the PhD student will explore how the system best can be designed and, at a later stage, design a proof of concept together with project partners. The employment is initially funded for 2 years, making it possible to achieve a Licentiate degree. NIBE AB is now recruiting a talented student with a master degree in science to work as an industrial PhD student on smart heat pumps. We are now looking for an industrial PhD student, interested in technology and wants to work on developing sustainable climate solutions. The position will be shared in between Sweden and France. At NIBE's head office, you will work in an international environment with a world-class product portfolio that requires both intensive and high-quality product development. Description of the subject and the position To make these smart heat pumps a reality a heat pump manufacturer, an electricity utility company and a technical university specialized in energy efficiency systems have joined forces to propose an industrial postgraduate student position. Based on previous works, the PhD student will explore the real time assessment of residential heat pump operation, facing one major or several simultaneous faults. This work will include theoretical analysis of heat pump operation, detailed modelling using Dymola software and laboratory testing of real systems installed in climatic chambers. The PhD student will beneficiate from the knowledge and experience of the three partners and be given a unique chance to acquire strong and valuable expertise in control systems, thermodynamics, heat transfer, laboratory testing and modelling. Department of Crop Production Ecology Biology with a specialisation in ecology - The Department of Crop Production Ecology is seeking a PhD student in plant breeding and plant protection against insect pests. Description: Chemical insecticides have been an important tool for limiting crop losses caused by insect pests and insect-borne viruses, but their availability has declined sharply in recent years. Crop varieties with resistance, tolerance or other traits that enable them to avoid insect damage and viruses spread by insects will therefore be a cornerstone of future integrated pest management. The vision for the new project 'Node for Plant Breeding against Insect Pests and Viruses' within the centre SLU Grogrund is to reduce crop losses caused by pests and insect-borne viruses through crop breeding. The project focuses on insect pests and viruses in wheat, field beans, peas and sugar beet and is a collaboration between five departments at SLU and three plant breeding companies. We are seeking a highly motivated individual for a PhD position within the Node, focusing on the broad bean beetle (Bruchus rufimanus), a key pest of field bean. Infestations by the broad bean beetle pose an obstacle to developing field bean cultivation and a market for field beans for human consumption. The PhD programme comprises both research and coursework. The project combines environmental analytical chemistry, wastewater and stormwater research, process understanding, and systems perspectives to support preventive and sustainable PFAS management. The PhD project is connected to the work package PFAS flows from land to sea, which focuses on identifying, mapping, and quantifying PFAS sources and transport pathways in urban water systems and coastal environments. The research will include targeted and non-targeted PFAS analysis in wastewater, stormwater, industrial effluents, and receiving waters. The research will also include the development of sector-specific PFAS fingerprints and mass-balance approaches. The doctoral student will work with advanced analytical methods including LC-MS/MS, combustion ion chromatography, extractable organofluorine (EOF), oxidation methods for PFAS precursors, and high-resolution mass spectrometry for suspect and non-target screening. The work also includes interpretation of large analytical datasets and integration of results into source-tracking and fate-assessment frameworks. The project is conducted in close collaboration between IVL Swedish Environmental Research Institute, Chalmers University of Technology, Örebro University, VA SYD, and Malmö City.
