This team works at the intersection of fraud intelligence, data analytics, and platform protection, collaborating closely with Data Science, Product, Global Operations, Safety, Legal, and Community Policy teams. You’ll partner cross-functionally to safeguard Airbnb’s community against ever-evolving threats. The Difference You Will Make: In this role, you will lead the defenses that prevent novel and emerging  fraud and abuse, directly owning our strategy for proactive fraud identification and mitigation. Success means disrupting upstream risks, shaping proactive fraud strategies, and building systemic defenses. Your work will directly enhance platform trust and resilience, with a measurable impact on fraud loss reduction, threat anticipation, and risk prevention.  A Typical Day: * Proactive Threat Mitigation: Lead and mentor a specialized team to analyze large-scale fraud signals, translating complex data into platform-level controls, rules, and policies to stop bad actors upstream. * Strategic Analysis: Analyze fraud trends and patterns using SQL and Python, utilizing tools to visualize findings and drive data-informed decision-making. * Cross-Functional Leadership: Collaborate with data, product, trust & safety, legal, and policy teams to design and implement new fraud countermeasures and automated defenses. * Executive Reporting: Develop and present clear investigative reports and fraud intelligence summaries to leadership and cross-functional partners using Slides and data visualization tools. * Incident Command: Respond to critical incidents, ensuring platform integrity and community safety during high-severity events or emerging threat spikes. * Systemic Improvement: Identify automation opportunities to streamline detection processes and reduce manual operational lift. Your Expertise: * 8+ years of leadership experience in fraud intelligence, risk analytics, or related fields (e.g., financial crime, marketplace fraud, platform abuse). * Trend-Level Intelligence: Demonstrated expertise connecting trend-level insights to broader fraud patterns and systemic risk, rather than just resolving individual cases. * Technical Proficiency: Advanced proficiency with SQL and Python for analysis; experience building dashboards and visualizations in Tableau. * Fraud Typology Knowledge: Deep understanding of Account Takeover (ATO), Scams, behavioral analysis, and the development of risk controls. * Communication: Proven ability to produce clear, structured investigative writing and guide others in narrative and reporting standards for executive audiences. * Risk Frameworks: Working knowledge of cyber risk frameworks, digital forensics, and platform security; certifications such as CISSP, CHFI, CEH, GIAC, CFE, or Security+ are preferred. * Leadership: Track record of building and leading high-performing teams, fostering clarity, accountability, and resilience in high-stakes environments. * Global Collaboration: Experience collaborating with international and cross-functional partners to drive policy, process, and technology improvements. This position allows for remote work within the United States. *This is a full-time position with a four-day, 10-hour shift schedule. The current schedule is Sunday through Wednesday, though shifts are subject to change based on business needs. JOB DESCRIPTION The Threat Assessment Manager will be responsible for comprehensive threat assessment management for client staff and operations, while contributing to and protecting client culture and business interests. This role provides behavioral threat assessments, case management, and other related security management services to address external threats to the client company.  The scope of the role pertains to threats to life safety to the company, employees, and partner community as directed by the client. Threat Managers will perform these tasks using client-supplied equipment, network access, and information platforms. Threat Managers will perform these duties via the following: * Application of subject matter expertise * Adherence to prescribed program policies and procedures * Coordination with the greater team of cross-functional program groups to provide immediate and collaborative incident management when needed. RESPONSIBILITIES * Develop and maintain comprehensive threat research regionally.  * Identify, investigate, analyze, and manage global threats to executive staff and employees * Produce actionable and concise threat analysis products in a timely manner to inform cross-functional groups, executive staff protection, and enterprise-wide security operations * Work with and guide open-source intelligence analysts, utilizing law enforcement databases, social media platforms, and the deep/dark web for known and potential threats capable of impacting executive staff, employees, or the business partner community. * Manage Safety and Security team relationships with local law enforcement partners and other investigative, research, and intelligence groups and vendors. * Work closely with the client's customer service team members on threats * Maintain global situational awareness of potential and developing threats and prepare impact analyses * Work on complex security incidents with multiple stakeholders, including those without experience in the threat and intelligence fields.  * Lead regional cross-functional program syncs to educate and develop improved threat capabilities. * Assist in program development with workflow creation, threat methodology research, and other planning products. * Have a team-focused approach to problem-solving.  * Be comfortable communicating with everyone from senior executives to entry-level employees.  * Have the ability to translate complex security issues in a way that your specific audience can consume and understand them. * Conform with and abide by all regulations, policies, work procedures, and instructions REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS * 3-5 years of experience in threat analysis, ideally behavioral threat assessment, and threat management. * Experience supporting a comprehensive threat management program and direct experience conducting investigations, intelligence collection, analysis, and case management. * Extensive experience with utilizing open source research, criminal background information, and other online investigative techniques. * Current member (or ability to become a member) of professional threat assessment organizations (i.e., Association of Threat Assessment Professionals). * Ability to work some non-traditional hours (e.g., nights, weekends, or holidays) and respond to emergent or time-sensitive situations. * Excellent written and oral communication skills, demonstrable during the interview process. * Must be a highly adaptable and flexible individual with the ability to build partnerships and work collaboratively and cross-functionally. * Professional competency in the Google Suite of workspace applications and Mac OS. * This position requires up to 10% travel PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS * Certified Threat Manager (CTM), or currently eligible to sit for the CTM exam per the Association of Threat Assessment Professionals (ATAP) standards. * Bachelor’s degree preferred (years of experience may be substituted). * Former or current Law Enforcement experience * International experience/living abroad * Data analysis * Planning and policy drafting * Training and Exercise experience COMPENSATION & BENEFITS * The HSA medical plan covers 100% of the premium for employee-only coverage.
