Staff Engineer - Financial Products In this role, you will be a technical leader and trusted advisor, shaping the architecture, design, and execution of critical systems that power Adyen’s global financial products. You’ll work closely with engineering teams, product partners, and cross-functional stakeholders to solve complex technical challenges, drive technical excellence, and ensure our solutions scale with the needs of our global business. Your expertise will guide the direction of our technology stack, influence best practices, and help set the technical vision for the organization. What you'll do * Scale and expand our foundation that supports the needs of all Adyen products; * Provide architectural and design leadership to build a strong foundation for our Financial Products offering; * Design and build new rails as Adyen expands their financial products; * Mentor engineers to uphold high standards of and technical excellence; * Drive a culture of continuous innovation by challenging the status quo and introducing transformative ideas. WHO YOU ARE * Must have: * 2+ years of experience in the financial industry, preferably in the banking or fintech sector; * 10+ years of hands-on development experience in a modern engineering environment; * Technical leadership experience, including mentoring engineers and leading an engineering strategy; * Hands-on experience designing and building large scale distributed systems; * Strong background and hands-on experience coding with Java; * Platform mindset. Able to generalize complex processes and create simple and flexible services to support multiple products; * Proactive relationship-builder with strong communication skills and the ability to work closely with diverse stakeholders across cultures; * Self-starter who can identify problems and figure out solutions     This role's annual base salary range is $258–$367k, plus RSUs. Staff Engineer - Customer Interfaces As a Staff Engineer for Customer Interfaces (CI), you will lead the evolution of the Adyen experience from a traditional dashboard into an intelligent, conversational financial partner. We are looking for a product engineer who can wear an architectural hat to build Agentic Workflows and manage backend orchestration (specifically Tool-use, Chains, and Policy Layers). This role is essential for transforming natural language inputs into authenticated, secure financial operations. What you'll do * Drive Intelligent Experiences: Lead the next generation of conversational UIs at Adyen. You will build Generative UIs that adapt in real-time, moving beyond static dashboards to create streaming, multi-modal experiences where the interface itself is a dynamic partner in the conversation. * Bridge Architecture & Innovation: Act as the primary technical liaison for AI initiatives, coordinating their integration and ensuring operational excellence with teams in different areas and global geographies. You will ensure that "intelligent modules" built in are the gold standard for performance and extensibility. * Zero-Trust for AI: Architect the security layer for conversational interfaces. You will solve the unique challenge of maintaining strict financial data privacy and "Zero Trust" principles while leveraging LLMs and advanced data processing. * Product Strategy & "The Art of the Possible": Partner deeply with the Head of Product to identify high-impact flows. You aren't just implementing designs; you are identifying where intelligent automation can solve "impossible" merchant problems. * Full-Stack Leadership: Own the end-to-end technical lifecycle. From backend services and data pipelines that feed our insights, to the frontend components that render them. * Global Influence: Mentor engineers and coordinate with global hubs to drive technical standards that benefit the entire Adyen ecosystem. WHO YOU ARE * Product-Minded Architect: You think in terms of user outcomes. You have a track record of partnering with product teams to turn ambiguous goals into robust technical reality. * Applied AI Experience: You have experience (or a deep technical interest) in building production-grade interfaces powered by LLMs, including harnesses, policy enforcement, evals, RAG architectures and secure data handling. * Full-Stack Powerhouse: Deeply proficient in Java for secure backend services and TypeScript/React/Vue for complex front-end applications. * Security First: You have a "security-by-design" mindset, particularly regarding the handling of sensitive financial data in modern web environments. * Entrepreneurial & Autonomous: You will be a core member of our growing San Francisco team, where you will be expected to operate with speed and autonomy.
