We're looking for a hands-on Development Team Lead to drive delivery, technical execution, and team performance within one of our
squads. You'll play a key role in enhancing and innovating our core products, while ensuring predictable delivery and high
engineering standards.
You will collaborate closely with Chapter Leads, Technical Business Analysts, and Project Managers, work on complex features, and

RabbitMQ, MassTransit, Kafka, etc.)
We are looking for someone who combines strong technical expertise with leadership capabilities. You have experience working on
complex systems and are comfortable taking ownership of delivery within a team. You communicate clearly, collaborate effectively
with different stakeholders, and maintain a structured approach to building scalable solutions. You take responsibility for both
the quality of the work and the performance of the team, and you actively contribute to improving how the team operates.
Flow Traders is strengthening leadership across its Product Development department and is hiring an Engineering Manager in Amsterdam. As the firm scales, the quality of engineering management has become one of the most important factors in how well our teams grow, retain talent, and deliver - and this role exists to raise that bar. Engineering Managers are accountable for the planning and people side of the organisation - project deliveries, growth, performance, culture and hiring - and partner with technical leads who own architecture, technical direction, and hands-on execution. The two work in close partnership; neither succeeds without the other. You will be measured on the engineers you develop and the outcomes your team delivers. You will spend the large majority of your time leading people and managing delivery. What you will do: * Own the roadmap: manage priorities, planning, and sequencing of the work in line with company goals. * Develop your engineers: own career planning, promotions, coaching, and structured, continuous performance management. * Plan and build the team: lead hiring, headcount planning, and resource allocation in line with the team's roadmap and the firm's priorities. * Cultivate a healthy team: actively manage culture, morale, and productivity, and address conflict early and constructively. * Lead with rhythm: hold regular one-on-ones, give clear and timely feedback, and invest in team building. * Translate technical and business requirements into clear delivery plans, identifying dependencies with other teams and risks up front. * Act as the liaison between Engineering, Trading, and Quant teams to design and roll out new products. * Drive delivery predictability: track progress against plan, manage risk and scope trade-offs, and report status clearly to stakeholders. * Continuously improve delivery processes and team velocity. * Ensure alignment: keep your team's work connected to organisational goals and delivery timelines, collaborating closely with Tech Leads and Staff Engineers on technical direction. What you need to succeed: * Strong project management skills: experience building roadmaps, sequencing work, managing dependencies and risk, and driving delivery predictability in a fast-moving environment. * A technical background sufficient to earn the respect of the engineers you manage and to engage credibly in technical discussions. * Demonstrated experience leading, growing, and managing the performance of software engineers. * A track record of delivering software through a team, balancing scope, quality, and timelines. * Strong people-leadership skills: coaching, feedback, conflict resolution, and building an environment in which engineers thrive. * Sound judgment in hiring and developing talent. * Excellent communication with both technical and non-technical stakeholders, including experience managing cross-functional stakeholders (e.g. Trading, Quant). * Based in Amsterdam, or willing to relocate. WHAT WE OFFER At Flow Traders, we create the conditions for hard‑working, high‑performing people to do their best work. From a thorough onboarding and ongoing access to Flow Academy, to latest technology and a collaborative, non‑hierarchical culture, we give you the tools, ownership, and support to move fast and drive outcomes. We keep a close‑knit, small‑company feel while offering competitive salary, annual discretionary profit share, and comprehensive benefits, so talent can grow here, and stay here. See our benefits below: * Flow Academy and opportunities to attend domain-related conferences * Daily catered lunch, great coffee, and a fully stocked kitchen and snack bar * In-house Bar and Lounge with arcade, table tennis, billiards, and game consoles * Company boat * In-house gym and sessions with our nutritionist or personal trainer * Bi-weekly massages * Annual company trip and a variety of events throughout the year, such as the New Years Event * Global rotations across our offices worldwide * and more Flow Traders does not accept unsolicited resumes from any professional staffing or search firms. All resumes, and any other information identifying potential candidates, submitted to any employee at Flow Traders via-email, the Internet or directly without a valid and signed search agreement will be deemed free to contact by Flow Traders without any restrictions and no placement fee of any kind will be paid in the event the candidate is hired by Flow Traders
THE ROLE At Ore Energy, we are on a mission to fundamentally expand the amount of energy society can reliably harness and use, helping move civilization toward a more abundant energy future. We are doing this by developing long-duration, utility-scale iron-air batteries that provide safe, low-cost, multi-day energy storage for electricity grids and data centers. We are expanding our product development team and are looking for a hands-on, highly skilled Balance of Plant (BoP) Systems Lead to join us in Amsterdam. In this role, you will take ownership of the architecture, design, and integration of the critical supporting subsystems required to operate our iron-air batteries safely, efficiently, and reliably. Operating at the intersection of mechanical engineering, fluid mechanics, thermal management, and process control, you will bridge our core electrochemical cells with the physical support systems that surround them. We are looking for a pragmatic, systems-thinking engineer who thrives in a lab/workshop environment, designing functional physical setups and scaling concepts into robust, product-level assemblies. This role reports directly to the Chief Product Officer (CPO). KEY RESPONSIBILITIES * BoP Architecture & Sizing: Define the technical architecture, specifications, and component sizing for all BoP subsystems, including air management, gas conditioning, fluid handling, thermal management, and pressure control. * Component Selection & Integration: Evaluate, specify, and integrate active hardware components, including pumps, blowers, valves, manifolds, sensors, heat exchangers, filters, and piping networks. * Interface & Trade-Off Analysis: Translate electrochemical operating requirements into clear subsystem specifications. Perform system-level trade-off studies balancing thermal performance, pressure drop, parasitic energy consumption, cost, and complexity. * Prototyping & Hands-on Testing: Maintain a strong physical presence in the lab/workshop—building, plumbing, commissioning, and troubleshooting proof-of-concept rigs, full-scale prototypes, and early product builds. * Mass & Energy Balances: Develop and maintain detailed system-level mass, fluid flow, energy, and thermal balance models to guide engineering decisions. * Root-Cause Analysis & Validation: Collaborate closely with testing and quality teams to define validation plans, execute root-cause failure analysis, and drive iterative hardware improvements based on empirical data. * Risk Management & Standards: Participate in DFMEA sessions, hazard analyses, and technical design reviews, establishing clean documentation and standardized operating procedures for BoP subsystems. YOUR PROFILE * Experience: 5+ years of hands-on engineering experience designing and integrating complex fluid, thermal, gas-handling, or chemical-process hardware systems. * Systems Engineering Thinking: Proven ability to define functional requirements, manage interface controls, and bring a multi-component electromechanical system from initial concept through physical prototyping and validation. * Multi-Disciplinary Hardware Expertise: Deep technical foundation in fluid dynamics, thermodynamics, pneumatics, sensor integration, and active component selection (pumps, blowers, valves, heat exchangers). * Hands-on & Resourceful: Practical, resource-efficient problem solver who loves building physical test rigs, wiring/plumbing setups, and troubleshooting issues directly on the lab floor. * Analytical & Data-Driven: Strong capability in system sizing calculations, engineering modeling (MATLAB, Python, or process simulation tools), and interpreting empirical test data to guide mechanical redesigns. * Industry Background: Direct experience in batteries, fuel cells, electrolyzers, Direct Air Capture (DAC), HVAC, or industrial chemical-process equipment is highly valuable. * Communication & Autonomy: Flawless professional English. Highly autonomous, structured, and capable of translating complex subsystem dynamics into clear, actionable recommendations for cross-functional engineering teams.
