Project description The PhD student will be affiliated with the Department of Computer Science and will carry on research within the field of cybersecurity for embodied AI. While cybersecurity threats in AI are often studied in software-based environments, the physical embodiment of AI in robots and autonomous systems introduces new, largely unexplored risks and opportunities. This PhD project will investigate: How embodiment and physical configuration affect the cybersecurity posture of AI-driven systems; The role of self-awareness in security, i.e., how robots can assess their own vulnerabilities based on their embodiment and operational state; How dynamic reconfiguration can enhance resilience, e.g., redistributing sensor reliance, modifying behaviour or adjusting control strategies in response to attacks. Rather than relying solely on traditional security mechanisms, this research aims to explore how AI systems can proactively evaluate their own weak points and autonomously adapt to mitigate security risks. About the role The objective of this position is to strengthen the team’s capacity to develop and apply data-driven and systems-based approaches across water, coastal and marine domains – including federated data systems, decision-support tools and geospatial analysis – while contributing to project leadership and new funding opportunities. The researcher will work across the team’s three pillars and multiple projects, bringing methodological coherence to data-intensive work and reducing dependence on the team lead for analytical coordination. About the team The Water, Coasts and Ocean Team works across three thematic pillars: Resilient Infrastructures, One Water and Blue Economy. Across these pillars, the team addresses increasingly complex challenges involving data integration, cross-sectoral cooperation and digital decision-support – from freshwater systems and coastal resilience to offshore infrastructure and critical national services. Several funded projects now require integrated capacity in data (systems, modelling and governance). Recruiting a researcher with strong expertise in data systems is a strategic priority for delivery, proposal development and analytical leadership. Both levels are genuinely considered; the appointment will reflect the experience and profile of the successful candidate. The ideal candidate at either level combines technical depth in data systems with the ability to engage meaningfully with governance, policy and stakeholder dimensions – and to translate between these registers. The role sits at the technical–policy interface that characterizes SEI’s comparative advantage. Postdoctoral position in Plant Evolutionary Genomics and Pangenomics Department of Plant Biology About the position A postdoctoral position in plant evolutionary genomics is available in the Yant Lab at the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU) in Uppsala, Sweden. The Yant Lab develops computational and genomic approaches to understand evolution, adaptation, genome dynamics, and whole-genome duplication across diverse plant systems (see https://www.yantlab.net/). The project is funded through a Formas grant aimed at restoring European ash (Fraxinus excelsior) populations threatened by ash dieback. The successful candidate will contribute to developing the first Swedish-focused European ash pangenome, integrating long-read genome assemblies with population-scale sequencing to understand disease resistance and local adaptation across Europe. The project combines large-scale population genomics, graph-based pangenomics, structural variant discovery, genome-wide association studies, and evolutionary genomics using state-of-the-art long-read sequencing and computational genomic approaches. The successful candidate will work closely with collaborators at other SLU campuses, the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, and other European partners, contributing to both methodological developments and biological discovery. The project offers an opportunity to work at the forefront of plant evolutionary genomics while contributing directly to forest restoration and conservation. ABOUT THE ROLE As a Sales Representative at Sparv Embedded, your initial focus will be on generating new business opportunities through active prospecting and outbound sales activities. A large part of the role involves identifying potential customers, initiating contact via email, LinkedIn, and phone, as well as booking and qualifying meetings. You will also follow up on customer dialogues, prepare quotations, and drive opportunities through to closing. Description of the doctoral position The successful applicants will complete their doctoral theses as part of the project and within its thematic and theoretical framework. These doctoral projects may adopt a range of perspectives, such as analyses of monetary practices and discourses among and/or between different social groups (such as the nobility, merchants, peasants, and burghers), as well as political and administrative discourses, policies, and practices at the imperial, national, and/or local levels. We therefore welcome applications that encompass the full spectrum of approaches, from macro- to micro-level studies of social and cultural relations and practices, provided that they align with the project’s aims. The project advances three interrelated analytical perspectives. First, it emphasises the polycentric nature of the Swedish Empire, integrating its Baltic and German provinces into a single framework and showing how power was negotiated through multiple institutional and social centres. Second, it treats money not merely as an economic instrument but as a practical and socially embedded problem, foregrounding everyday monetary practices, coin shortages, and alternative means of exchange among ordinary people. Third, it focuses on circulation, examining how money, knowledge, and practices moved across regions and how popular reactions – petitions, protests and riots – both responded to and constrained state policy. Methodologically, the project combines quantitative analysis with qualitative readings. Beyond its historical contribution, the project offers comparative insights into early modern composite states and provides a historically grounded perspective on contemporary monetary integration and tension in the Baltic Sea region and Europe more broadly. The work environment at Södertörn University, as well as within the research project, is bilingual, with both Swedish and English as working languages. Entry requirements The general entry requirements are: 1. a second-cycle qualification, or 2. fulfilled requirements for courses comprising at least 240 credits, of which at least 60 credits were awarded in the second-cycle, or 3. substantially equivalent knowledge acquired in some other way in Sweden or abroad. The Faculty Board may permit an exemption from the general entry requirements for an individual applicant, if there are special grounds. (Ordinance 2010:1064) Specific entry requirements The specific entry requirements are met by someone who has at least 90 credits in History, Economic History, the History of Ideas or the equivalent and who has authored an independent dissertation in History worth at least 15 credits at Master’s level. Prerequisites for undertaking the degree programme are the ability to assimilate scientific work in English and command of the language necessary for work on the thesis. Eligible applicants will first be ranked according to their ability to assimilate education at research level, then other qualifications will be reviewed on the basis of this ranking. The position may be extended by a maximum of one year due to the inclusion of departmental duties, i.e. education, research and/or administration (equivalent to no more than 20% of full-time).
