As a Chargehand, you'll oversee workshop personnel and equipment, ensuring top-notch service and compliance with roadworthiness guidelines. You'll be the go-to contact for both external and internal customers, maintaining high standards of health and safety. WHAT YOU’LL DO * Manage and support workshop personnel, ensuring efficient planning and workflow * Communicate directly with customers, preparing quotes and keeping them updated on progress * Plan, oversee, and sign off jobs, maintaining accurate documentation and real‑time invoicing * Inspect, repair, and maintain vehicles and specialist equipment in line with DVSA and roadworthiness standards * Ensure compliance, safety, and high housekeeping standards across the workshop * Promote a positive Health & Safety culture at all times WHAT YOU’LL BRING * Strong experience in maintenance and repair within a workshop environment (RCVs or similar) * Background in both body and chassis work * Level 3 Motor Vehicle qualification (or equivalent) and a current PLG licence * Solid diagnostic ability and confidence reading wiring diagrams * Good understanding of electronics, hydraulics, and workshop documentation * A customer‑focused mindset and the ability to work under minimal supervision * Willingness to travel occasionally and work overtime when required We welcome applicants from all backgrounds. Role: HGV Technician / HGV Mechanic Location: Bexley, DA1 5QJ Hours: 45 hours per week | between 12:00 and 00:00 Monday to Thursday Salary: between £47,709.38 - £56,569.82 pa DOE WE’RE LOOKING FOR A PROACTIVE AND DETAIL-ORIENTED HGV TECHNICIAN TO JOIN OUR AFTERMARKET TEAM! This hands-on role involves maintaining and repairing refuse collection vehicles to the highest standards, ensuring safety, compliance, and customer satisfaction every step of the way. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: * Diagnose faults and carry out repairs on chassis and mounted equipment * Service vehicles to VOSA standards and prepare them for MOT inspections * Complete body and chassis repairs and ensure compliance with Department of Transport specifications * Maintain accurate records and enter job details into company systems * Liaise professionally with customers and work independently at customer sites * Ensure all work is completed efficiently and to company standards * Follow health and safety procedures and conduct risk assessments where required * Undertake training to enhance technical skills and knowledge IDEAL CANDIDATE: * NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in Heavy Vehicle Service and Maintenance * Proven experience in commercial vehicle repair and servicing * Strong diagnostic and fault-finding skills * Understanding of electronics, hydraulics, and wiring diagrams * Excellent communication and customer service skills * Ability to work independently and manage time effectively * Willingness to travel and work flexible hours, including overtime * Experience with electric vehicles, IRTEC qualification, or HGV Class 2 licence is a bonus If you’re ready to take your technical skills to the next level, we’d love to hear from you!
