global scale. The team is responsible for MongoDB Atlas: our database-as-a-service offering and fastest-growing product, which
allows users to deploy globally distributed MongoDB clusters in just minutes.
We're seeking an SE3 to join our team to tackle exciting challenges within the Observability space.
You'll contribute to developing tools and platforms that help our users understand the health and performance of their MongoDB
deployments. This includes collecting metrics, monitoring slow queries, and offering actionable insights such as index and schema
suggestions that improve the speed, efficiency, and overall reliability of their databases.
This role provides a unique opportunity to drive engineering excellence across both dimensions of observability, leveraging
technologies being developed within the Customer Observability group and contributing directly to the success of our customers and
our product teams. If you're passionate about large-scale systems, digging deep into telemetry data, and building tools that make

WE'RE LOOKING FOR SOMEONE WHO * Has at least 5 years of experience as a backend or full stack engineer * Enjoys collaboration and being part of a team * Is approachable, curious, and intellectually honest * Is a backend engineer with a willingness to take on frontend tasks or a full-stack developer with a bias towards backend * Has written backend systems in a compiled language (Java, C#, Go, etc.) * Has experience with the design and architecture of a modern, scalable web application * Enjoys chasing down difficult problems in a distributed environment and on an database diagnostic/operation level * Always strives to expand their knowledge and keeps up to date with new technologies * Is familiar with debugging and troubleshooting production issues * Strong understanding of algorithms, data structures and their time and space complexity NICE TO HAVES * Has worked with distributed event streaming platforms like Kafka or WarpStream and/or event processing platforms like Flink * Experience developing and writing code observability tools * Previous work in TypeScript, React, and Node.js, particularly maintaining an ecosystem of dependencies * Knowledge of database internals and tuning mechanisms, particularly indexing ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES * Design, write and maintain Observability code and features * Contribute to and lead complex technical projects * Investigate large scale distributed production issues * Collaborate with team members to develop our codebase, best practices and design principles * Work with customers and support engineers to fix issues and become part of our on-call rotation * Mentor junior team members SUCCESS MEASURES * In 1 month, you'll be familiar with the parts of the system that your team owns, the existing features, and projects within the Observability team and have contributed minor tasks within our codebase * In 3 months, you will be contributing to design and development of your team’s projects and starting to ship tickets regularly * In 6 months, you will have ramped up enough to take on medium+ sized projects, contribute actively in our technical discussions and proactively improve our codebase and products. We’re looking for a mid-level Software Engineer (Software Engineer 3) to join the Atlas Growth Platforms team, focused on enabling data-informed decision making and accelerating growth across MongoDB Atlas. This team is responsible for key infrastructure powering experimentation, service configuration, and partner integrations that shape the user experience and drive business impact at scale. In this role, you'll work primarily on backend services (80%), with opportunities to contribute to frontend systems (20%) that power our A/B testing platform, feature flagging service, analytics pipelines, and partner integrations. You'll collaborate closely with Product, Analytics, and other engineering teams to build and scale services that deliver targeted experiences and personalized recommendations for our users. You’ll also contribute to the evolution of our experimentation framework and play a role in shaping how we partner with external platforms to grow our ecosystem and reach new customers. The SRE Team is fully integrated with all the other engineering teams, and the teams work closely together with a soft and traversable boundary between their areas of responsibility. RESPONSIBILITIES * Design and build the infrastructure for a global cloud service that comprises hundreds of thousands of MongoDB clusters, processes a billion metrics per day, and replicates tens of billions of database writes to our backup service * Design, implement, and troubleshoot the automation and monitoring of services that seamlessly spans the globe - including several cloud providers * Become an expert in infrastructure performance, helping us optimize from the application level all the way through the firmware * Build for resilience. Our goal is that nobody’s pager goes off, ever. Are we there yet? No. Are we really close? Very.
