In this role, you'll play a critical part in shaping the user experience of our product by transforming high-fidelity designs into seamless, responsive, and accessible web applications using React and Next.js. You'll work closely with our product and design teams to shape the architecture of our frontend systems at the UK's leading company formation agent — 1 million+ companies formed since 2014. Key Responsibilities · Develop, maintain, and optimise high-quality, responsive, and performant web applications using React and Next.js, ensuring a consistent experience across devices and browsers * Collaborate closely with product designers to translate Figma mock-ups into seamless, visually polished interfaces that meet both aesthetic and functional requirements * Write clean, maintainable, and efficient code adhering to modern development standards, accessibility guidelines, and industry best practices * Contribute to frontend architecture — defining scalable patterns, reusable components, and maintainable structures to support long-term product growth * Participate in code reviews and technical discussions, sharing knowledge and upholding code quality and consistency across the engineering team * Continuously improve application performance through profiling, optimisation, and modern tooling and techniques * Stay current with the latest trends and advancements in frontend development, particularly within the React / Next.js ecosystem What we are looking for * 10+ years building modern web applications, with deep production expertise in React and Next.js * Expert-level JavaScript and TypeScript, plus strong HTML and CSS — including responsive layouts, accessibility, and cross-browser compatibility * In-depth experience with Payload CMS * Proven ability to translate Figma designs into pixel-perfect, maintainable frontend code * Experience with analytics, A/B testing, and data-driven methods to understand user behaviour and inform feature development * Solid understanding of frontend performance — able to identify bottlenecks and implement effective solutions * Proactive, self-driven, and highly accountable — you take initiative, follow through, and hold yourself to a high standard * Grit and drive — comfortable diving into complex problems, experimenting, and iterating to find the best solution * Collaborative team player who thrives in a fast-paced, high-growth environment What We Offer * £90- £110k and comprehensive benefits package * Hybrid working model * Real opportunities for progression as the business scales * The chance to influence both customer experience and product development * A culture that values ownership, impact, and continuous learning Equal Opportunities 1st Formations is an equal opportunity employer and is committed to creating a diverse and inclusive workplace. The Role You will be helping to build Cytora’s Underwriting Productivity Suite, a serverless based web application that increases the efficiency and effectiveness of underwriters thereby reducing expense ratios and delivering profitable growth to our customers More specifically, you will be joining the platform team, which is responsible for the infrastructure of our application, our monitoring systems and our CI/CD pipelines. We: * Have single and multi tenant deployments across Europe, United States and Australia * Have infrastructure deployed on AWS and GCP * Manage our infrastructure as code, using terraform * Use third party systems such us circleci, datadog, auth0, thoughspot * Have the mid-term requirement to scale, and the short-term requirement to deliver really fast, so this engineer will need to have good intuition on the level of complexity our systems need. Along with core technical skills, we are excited about colleagues who bring passion for the craft of inventing and building products from the ground up This means providing feedback to product managers and the wider company, contributing to roadmaps, and bringing your creativity to bear by suggesting features and improvements based on your technical understanding of what is possible and needed. Requirements: * We are looking for someone who is customer-centric, values-driven, and collaborative with great communication skills * Strong proven experience in serverless: Lambda/SQS/SNS/S3/Aurora Serverless/GCP Vertex AI/GCP BigQuery * Strong experience using a range of AWS services but not limited to: RDS Aurora Postgres, APIGW, Lambda, S3, SNS, SQS, SES, Cloudfront, Secret Manager, Certificate Manager * Experience building and maintaining multi-region deployments * Terraform/Terragrunt experience as this is part of our stack with Single Tenant deployments * Experience using an OOP language, we use Python * Experience using Terraform * Knowledge of networking fundamentals, including VPC configuration and security Nice to haves: * ECS and Fargate are a plus * Experience designing both single tenancy and multi tenancy solutions * Experience building and maintaining Kubernetes clusters using AWS EKS * Maintaining CI/CD pipelines (we use CircleCI) * Monitoring, we use Datadog logs, APMs, profiling, App security * Prior experience using GCP is a plus, but not essential * Awareness of GDPR compliant systems * Experience building event-driven, serverless applications * Cloudflare/Orca/Vanta Why Cytora We’re building the future of insurance and we’re doing it together. Our targeted starting base salary in the United States for this position ranges from $100,000 to $140,000. To determine a new team member’s starting pay, we consider a variety of factors, including someone’s depth, breadth, and variety of experience, skills, and responsibilities. Depending on the role, team members may also be eligible to participate in additional compensation plans such as bonus and commission.
