Turn ship physics into software people actually use At Cetasol we build the monitoring and analytics platform that commercial fleets use to cut fuel consumption, understand how their vessels really perform, and stay on the right side of CII and EU MRV reporting. A growing part of that platform is predictive maintenance: catching when an engine, generator, thruster, or the vessel as a whole starts behaving differently than it should, before it becomes a failure. Getting there takes two things that rarely live in the same person: an understanding of the physics behind how these assets actually behave, and the engineering skill to ship that understanding as a working product. We're looking for that person. What you'll do Build physical and data-driven models of vessel assets — engines, generators, thrusters, and the ship as a whole — that capture what "normal" operation looks like Detect when an asset deviates from its expected behaviour, and trace that deviation back to the sensors and signals driving it Work with noisy, real-world sensor data from vessels: clean it, validate it, and decide what it can and cannot support Take your own models from notebook to production on AWS, and build the React interfaces where the results actually land in front of customers Own features end to end, with our UX designer, full stack developers and data scientist alongside you Help us decide where a first-principles model beats a statistical one, and where it doesn't What we're looking for The balance here is genuinely 50/50. You should be comfortable deriving a model and deploying it. On the modelling side: Strong applied mathematics, physics or engineering foundation — fluid dynamics, thermodynamics, control theory, numerical methods, or similar Experience with anomaly detection or condition monitoring on physical systems — knowing how to separate a genuine fault signature from normal operating variation Solid Python and the usual scientific stack; experience with time series and sensor data The judgement to know when a model is good enough and when it's fooling you On the engineering side: Practical experience building and running services on AWS Comfortable in React and modern frontend work — you don't need to be a specialist, but you should be able to build the view your model deserves Familiarity with the ordinary craft of software: version control, testing, code review, CI And: You explain technical work clearly to people who aren't specialists You're happy to sit somewhere between disciplines rather than in the middle of one We're open on years of experience. Department of Soil and Environment A 2-years postdoc position is available in the Soil and Environmental Physics group at the Department of Soil and Environment, Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU), in Uppsala. We are looking for a researcher fascinated by the interactions of ecological, biogeochemical, and physical processes that shape the responses of the carbon cycle to global change and the implementation of these interactions into soil and ecosystem models. Depending on the selected candidate, the research project can focus on statistical analysis of literature data, process-based modelling, or a combination of the two. About the role: The Project Controls Manager (PCM) plays a critical role in ensuring the best use of the human and financial resources for the ESS organisation. The Deuteration group at ESS operates a support service providing deuterium-labelled samples for the scientific users of the ESS neutron instruments for carrying out a broad range of experiments primarily in materials and life science research. In this position, you will play an important role in ensuring the success of biological and biomaterial experiments at ESS by further developing methods for the biological production of a range of deuterated biomolecules, contributing deuterated materials for user proposals and requested by ESS users, and optimising purification and analysis capabilities. In this role, you will: Provide deuteration services for neutron experiment users, including the production, purification and characterization of a variety of biologically deuterated molecules. The Science Directorate at the European Spallation Source (ESS) invites applications for an instrument scientist for the dedicated Test beamline (TBL). The Diffraction and Imaging Division is home to the instrument scientists and instrument operational engineers responsible for designing, constructing, and operating the DREAM, MAGiC, BEER, HEIMDAL, ODIN, and TBL instruments at ESS. New designs for a wide range of neutron instruments are being implemented to fully leverage the unique long-pulse time structure of the ESS neutron source. The primary purpose of TBL is characterizing the target-reflector-moderator system and verifying the performance of the neutron source based on operating parameters such as proton beam energy, stability, pulse length, and beam rastering, as well as the moderator conditions. An important aspect of this work will be comparing the measured and simulated neutronic performance of the moderator, providing a crucial reference for various neutron scattering instruments. Additionally, the TBL will contribute to optimizing instruments and methods to fully exploit the unique long-pulse time structure of the ESS neutron source. The TBL will function as a local characterization station, supporting technical developments in areas such as neutron optics, polarization, and novel detectors. It is designed to support the user program by performing exploratory imaging experiments, neutron diffraction studies, and single-crystal alignment. Due to the flexibility of the instrument, a variety of detectors and sample environments can be fitted inside the experimental cave, allowing multipurpose measurements on not only thermal neutrons but also epithermal/fast neutrons and gamma rays. This includes but is not limited to a well-established technique such as time-of-flight transmission measurements, neutron tomography, neutron activation analysis, grating interferometry, etc. As the facility evolves, the modular design of the TBL will allow for modifications to meet new objectives, ensuring its continued relevance and utility in advancing neutron science. The construction of TBL is completed and the team prepares the instrument for the first neutrons. About the role: As the instrument scientist for TBL you will: Work closely with another scientist and the instrument operations engineer, forming the core instrument team. Participate in commissioning of the TBL beamline with neutrons. About the role Within the Science Directorate, the Scientific Support Division provides the ESS neutron science program with experimental support including sample environments, user laboratories, deuteration, and hall coordination in close collaboration with Instrument Divisions. The Sample Environment group at ESS is preparing to support all ESS neutron instruments by developing, assembling and integrating a broad range of specialized equipment for achieving both very low and very high temperatures, high magnetic fields, high pressure, vacuum, gas or liquid flow, lasers, and in many cases, automated systems. Once ESS transitions into operations in early 2027, we will provide operational support for all sample environments on the instruments in close collaboration with scientists, as well as continuing the development of new sample environments. We are now seeking a Sample Environment Engineer to support the development, commissioning and the operations of high temperature furnaces, as well as related gas handling and pressurized gas systems. In this role, you will be responsible for delivering sample environment projects in these areas, working in close collaboration with other members of the Sample environment group as well as academic research groups to develop new equipment and provide operational support for early science experiments at ESS. As part of this role, you will specifically develop new sample environments in collaboration with the universities participating in the ESS Early Science Initiative project “Sustainable and functional materials from local resources” funded by the Swedish Research Council. Day-to-day, you will: Specify, design, develop and procure equipment for high temperature/gas handling and pressurized sample environment systems. Work with academic researchers to develop technical specifications and propose solutions and designs to meet scientific requirements. Assemble, integrate and commission sample environments and associated equipment. Install, operate, maintain and repair high temperature/gas handling/pressurized systems and related equipment. Collaborate with ESS instrument teams and academic user groups to establish specifications and priorities for new high temperature/gas handling/pressurized systems. Provide operational sample environment support for the ESS instruments including on-call support. Provide expert experiment safety reviews for user proposals and carry out safety testing of user-supplied equipment. The position Production processes at IRnova include test measurements and characterization of the products - large imaging arrays and integrated modules. About the research project Proton-exchange membrane fuel cells (PEMFC) convert the chemical energy in hydrogen to electrical energy. The main parts of a PEMFC are the anode, cathode and electrolyte. The reactions at the anode and cathode electrodes are catalyzed by metal nanoparticles on carbon. A current issue for large scale implementation of the PEMFC technology is long-term stability. The project will use atomistic first principles methods to understand the governing mechanism for fuel cell degradation. Increased understanding of the governing processes will provide information on how catalysts could be improved and how the system should be operated to minimize degradation. About us The research at the Division of Microstructure Physics focuses on experimental investigations of engineering materials using advanced characterization techniques. We mainly use electron microscopy, atom probe tomography (APT) and large scale facilities (synchrotron and neutron scattering). Forskningsprojektet What’s Next for Frontier Particle Physics? är ett femårigt forskningsprojekt som bedrivs vid Lunds universitet med Adam Koberinski som projektledare (PI). Partikelfysiken befinner sig vid ett vägskäl. Å ena sidan har partikelfysikens standardmodell klarat årtionden av rigorösa tester och uppvisar några av de mest exakt bekräftade förutsägelserna i vetenskapens historia. Å andra sidan tycks standardmodellen själv indikera att den inte borde fungera så väl som den gör, och fysiker förväntar sig att modellen är ofullständig. Detta innebär att det finns något problematiskt i vår nuvarande förståelse av standardmodellen – men vad? Begreppsliga frågor av detta slag är särskilt väl lämpade för vetenskapsfilosofisk analys. Projektet utgör en trefaldig filosofisk undersökning av samtida partikelfysik med målet att diagnostisera de teoretiska och experimentella utmaningar som standardmodellen står inför. Projektet omfattar (1) en ingående studie av den teoretiska partikelfysikens grunder, (2) en övergripande analys av hur och varför partikelfysiken har varit så framgångsrik under de senaste decennierna, samt (3) en analys av experiment inom partikelfysiken som söker efter ny, ännu okänd fysik. Projektet innefattar ett nära samarbete mellan filosofer och forskare inom Lunds universitets avdelning för partikelfysik, vilket möjliggör ett kontinuerligt idéutbyte och ett direkt filosofiskt engagemang i aktuell fysikforskning. Förmåga att arbeta både självständigt och som del av en mindre, tvärvetenskaplig forskargrupp. Mycket goda kunskaper i engelska. Meriterande för anställningen är: avlagd doktorsexamen högst tre år före sista ansökningsdag. Om det finns särskilda skäl så som sjukdom, föräldraledighet, fackliga förtroendeuppdrag, tjänstgöring inom totalförsvaret eller för ämnesområdet relevant tjänstgöring/uppdrag kan denna tid räknas av den tid som förflutit från avlagd doktorsexamen. Kunskap om partikelfysikens standardmodell och/eller effektiv fältteori. Erfarenhet av arbete med filosofisk litteratur om vetenskaplig realism och pragmatism. Erfarenhet av handledning eller mentorskap på forskarutbildningsnivå. Dokumenterad erfarenhet av tvärvetenskapligt samarbete mellan filosofi och fysik. Dokumenterat intresse för, eller tidigare forskning om, grundläggande frågor inom den moderna fysikens forskningsfront. Villkor Anställningen är tidsbegränsad till 3 år och avser heltid enligt Avtal om tidsbegränsning anställning som postdoktor.
