Forward Deployed Operator Terranova is hiring a Forward Deployed Operator to help deploy, operate, and improve our robotic land elevation systems in the field. This is a hands-on, field-heavy role for someone who can run machines, fix equipment, work outside, and solve weird, difficult problems in real time. You will work either a Thursday-Monday or Friday-Tuesday schedule. Weekend work is part of the job. A sixth day will be required in rare weeks where you were not deployed to the field for most of the week. Most days, you will be on site preparing for injections, operating robots, running support equipment, troubleshooting failures, and helping the team execute field work safely and quickly. The role will include moving heavy materials and equipment, some manual labor, and operating or supporting traditional field machinery such as loaders, forklifts, skid steers, trailers, pumps, generators, and other site equipment. You will work closely with mechanical engineers, embedded systems engineers, and senior forward deployed engineers to test new hardware, improve field procedures, suggest changes to robots, and make the system more reliable every week. You will also help improve our autopilot system by giving strong field feedback on robot behavior, sensors, controls, operator workflows, failure modes, and what needs to change for real deployments. A lot of the job involves tricky physical and mechanical work where the right answer is not obvious, the equipment is heavy, the environment is imperfect, and mistakes can damage equipment or create safety risks. We need someone who can think clearly, communicate well, and do hard things safely while still moving fast. Experience with robotics, controls, mechanical systems, electrical systems, pumps, hydraulics, engines, construction equipment, vehicles, heavy machinery, field operations, or industrial equipment is valuable. Job Scope Why does the role exist? High level purpose of function. The Manufacturing technician is responsible for ensuring safe, reliable, and efficient production and maintenance operations. This position covers a broad technical scope, including production support, troubleshooting, preventive and corrective maintenance, and continuous improvements in mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and automation systems. Collaborate closely with design, process, and product engineers to troubleshoot, optimize test coverage, and improve product yield and reliability. Thoroughly document all test plans, configurations, and results to ensure full traceability and enable continuous improvement in test methods and equipment. Drive improvements in throughput, automation, and measurement accuracy across the MEMS test process flow. Ensure all activities comply with quality standards, customer requirements, and relevant industry regulations. We are looking for someone who has A Masters degree or Ph.D. in Engineering, preferably in Electrical Engineering, Engineering Physics, or a related field. At least 3 years of experience in electrical measurements, device characterization, or production tests – ideally including MEMS or semiconductor tests within an industrial environment or academia. Experience in LabVIEW programming for test automation, instrument control, and data acquisition. Proficiency in Python and familiarity with SQL databases for data analysis, visualization and structured data management. Hands-on experience with a wide range of test equipment, such as source-measure units (SMUs), parametric analyzers, probe stations, oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, and other specialized tools used in MEMS testing. Experience in cleanroom or controlled laboratory environments. Strong analytical mindset and problem-solving skills, with the ability to troubleshoot complex device- and system-level issues. Basic knowledge or experience in 3D CAD modeling and prototype manufacturing methods (e.g., 3D printing, CNC machining) for test fixture design and development.
