WHO WE ARE Sapien is rethinking how finance teams operate in the age of AI. We’re building toward an autonomous CFO—systems that run company financials end-to-end. Our platform analyzes complex financial data in real time to increase decision cadence, prevent costly mistakes, and surface value. Sapien has caught multi-million-dollar errors, saved thousands of jobs, and returned significant dollars to customers’ bottom lines. We partner with traditional businesses—manufacturing, healthcare, restaurants, and large enterprises—to deeply understand and automate their financial workflows. We’re HQ’d by Madison Square Park in NYC and backed by General Catalyst, Neo, and top operators from Google, OpenAI, Microsoft, Ramp, and Stripe (over $9M raised). THE ROLE You'll build features end-to-end for Sapien's core platform. This means taking a feature from design through frontend implementation, backend APIs, database changes, and agent integration. You own the full experience and make it work. This is role where you'll balance shipping new capabilities with keeping the platform stable and performant. You'll work directly with customers, see how they use what you build, and iterate based on real feedback. WHAT YOU'LL DO * Build features that make Sapien a daily driver for finance teams. Design experiences that pull users in every day because the platform is proactively surfacing insights, catching issues before they become problems, and making their work faster and smarter. * Design interfaces that make complex agent operations understandable and controllable for finance teams who aren't technical. * Implement human-in-the-loop systems where users can give feedback, correct agent mistakes, and teach the system about their specific business processes. Build the feedback loops that make agents smarter over time. * Make product and technical decisions: what should this feature do, how should the UI work, what's the right database schema, which technologies should we use. You're not just implementing specs, you're figuring out what to build. WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR * Comfort with modern web technologies: React, TypeScript, Python, SQL, and common backend frameworks. You don't need to be an expert in everything, but you should be able to work across the stack. * Product mindset. You think about user experience, not just implementation. You've iterated on features based on how people actually use them. * Ability to work with ambiguity. You can take a rough problem statement, talk to the right people, and figure out what actually needs to be built. * CS degree or equivalent experience. We care most about what you've built. HOW YOU WORK (VALUES WE CARE ABOUT) * Adaptability: You move fluidly between design, frontend, backend, and customer conversations. You're comfortable in unfamiliar territory and can shift contexts quickly. * Ownership: You see features through. You don't stop at "it works on my machine." You deploy it, monitor it, fix issues that come up, and make sure it actually solves the problem * Opinionated: You have strong views on technical decisions and product tradeoffs. You push back when something doesn't make sense and help the team make better choices. * Mission-driven: You understand that every interface decision impacts whether finance teams trust and adopt AI. You care deeply about building products that transform how businesses run. * Collaborative excellence: You make the team better. You share knowledge, give thoughtful code reviews, and bring new ideas that improve how we all work.

Summary of the Role: As Product Engineer (Full Stack) at Maze, you'll be the technical force behind our customer-facing product experience, owning the complete stack from UI to API while moving at startup velocity. This is a unique opportunity to join as one of the early engineering team members of a well-funded startup building at the intersection of generative AI and cybersecurity. You'll work alongside our full stack product team with significant autonomy, owning your own API layer that powers the React application, enabling you to move fast and deliver exceptional experiences without dependencies or blockers. You'll take full ownership of feature development from concept to production, building both the elegant UI components that security teams interact with daily and the robust API infrastructure that makes it all work. Your success will be measured by delivery velocity, product quality, autonomous execution, and the customer experience you create—not by process adherence or ticket completion. This role is perfect for a hands-on full stack engineer who has thrived in fast-paced B2B SaaS environments, values independence and ownership, and wants to build something extraordinary with a modern tech stack from the ground up. Your Contributions to Our Journey: * Own Product Feature Development: Take complete ownership of features from front-end UI through to API implementation and database layer, delivering end-to-end functionality that delights customers and drives product adoption * Build with Modern Front-End Excellence: Craft exceptional user experiences using React, TypeScript, TailwindCSS, and the TanStack ecosystem (Router, Query, Table), creating intuitive interfaces for complex security workflows with attention to detail and performance * Design and Maintain API Infrastructure: Build and own performant REST APIs using our Python/FastAPI backend, ensuring scalable, maintainable services that power the front-end while maintaining clean architecture and performance optimization * Drive Autonomous Execution: Operate with high independence and startup energy—identify what needs building, make technical decisions quickly, and execute without waiting for perfect requirements or extensive process * Optimize for Performance and Scale: Continuously improve application performance across the stack, from database query optimization to front-end rendering efficiency, ensuring our platform scales elegantly as we grow * Contribute to Architectural Decisions: Participate in technical discussions and architectural planning, bringing your experience to help shape our front-end architecture and potentially grow into owning architectural decisions as the team scales * Balance Speed with Quality: Move at startup pace while maintaining high standards—ship features rapidly, gather feedback, iterate quickly, but never compromise on code quality or customer experience What You Need to Be Successful: * Proven Full Stack Product Experience: 6+ years building production applications with strong command of both front-end and back-end development—you must be genuinely skilled at both, not primarily one with dabbling in the other * Strong TypeScript and React Expertise: Deep, hands-on experience with TypeScript and React (or other modern component-based frameworks) in production environments, with strong understanding of component architecture, performance optimization, and modern patterns * Performant RESTful API Development: Proven track record building performant RESTful APIs with server-side frameworks, with experience designing scalable API architectures, optimizing endpoint performance, and building maintainable backend services * B2B SaaS Background: Direct experience in B2B SaaS product companies where you've built features for business users, understanding the unique requirements of enterprise product development and customer-facing applications * Database Performance Intuition: Strong understanding of database interactions and query optimization—you instinctively know when a query might blow up and how to structure data access for performance at scale * Startup Velocity Mindset: Thrives in fast-paced, ambiguous environments with bias for action—you "just go get it, go do it" without waiting for perfect specs, comfortable making pragmatic technical decisions quickly * Attention to Detail with Speed: Exceptional balance of moving fast while caring deeply about customer experience and code quality—you build things right the first time while maintaining velocity * Collaborative Independence: Comfortable working autonomously and owning your work end-to-end, while also collaborating effectively with designers, product managers, and other engineers when needed * Nice to Haves: * Python and FastAPI experience for our backend stack * Kubernetes/EKS experience for understanding our deployment environment and infrastructure * Temporal workflow orchestration experience for complex, distributed workflows * PostgreSQL optimization skills and experience with database performance tuning at scale * Experience integrating LLMs into applications, understanding how to build AI-powered features into production products * Experience with our specific front-end stack: TailwindCSS, TanStack ecosystem (Router, Query, Table), shadcn/ui, Radix UI * Infrastructure knowledge and comfort working with cloud platforms or infrastructure-as-code tools * Design system or component library development experience * Background at technical B2B SaaS companies where product velocity and customer experience were primary drivers Why Join Us: * Ambitious Challenge: We're using generative AI (LLMs and agents) to solve some of the most pressing challenges in cybersecurity today. You'll be building the product experiences that security teams interact with daily, creating intuitive interfaces for breakthrough AI-powered solutions. * Expert Team: We are a team of hands-on leaders with experience in Big Tech and Scale-ups. Our team has been part of the leadership teams behind multiple acquisitions and an IPO. * Impactful Work: Cybersecurity is a force for good - helping to stop cyber attacks ultimately helps deliver better outcomes for all of us. Your work will directly enable security teams to protect organizations worldwide from real threats. * Build an AI-Native Company: We're building a new company in the AI era with the opportunity to design everything from the ground up - you'll work with a modern, carefully chosen tech stack and help establish engineering practices that scale with us through hypergrowth. * Technical Ownership and Growth: True end-to-end ownership with your own API layer, freedom to make architectural decisions, and opportunity to grow into front-end architectural leadership as we scale the team and product.

This is a hands-on security engineering role. The role requires someone who can work directly with product and engineering teams, review designs, assess APIs, run threat models, test systems, coordinate penetration testing, identify vulnerabilities, and help teams remediate issues. The role ensures DTS products, APIs, data collaboration capabilities, AI-enabled workflows, and client-facing services are designed, built, and tested securely. It also owns the practical offensive security and adversarial assurance activity needed to test DTS products from an attacker’s perspective. The Product, Application and Offensive Security Lead will work closely with Product, Engineering, Architecture, Infrastructure, Security Operations, Privacy, Cloud and Platform Security, and the ISMS and Risk Officer to ensure security issues are identified early, fixed effectively, and tracked through governance where required. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- KEY RESPONSIBILITIES 1. HANDS-ON PRODUCT AND APPLICATION SECURITY Provide hands-on security support across DTS products and engineering teams. This includes: * Reviewing product designs, technical designs, APIs, services, and integrations. * Identifying security weaknesses in applications, workflows, and data flows. * Advising engineering teams on secure implementation. * Supporting secure design decisions during product discovery and delivery. * Helping teams resolve security issues pragmatically without creating unnecessary delivery friction. 2. SECURE SOFTWARE DEVELOPMENT LIFECYCLE (SDLC) Embed security into the software development lifecycle across DTS. This includes: * Defining and applying secure engineering standards. * Supporting secure coding practices. * Reviewing CI/CD security controls. * Supporting SAST, DAST, SCA, secrets scanning, dependency scanning, and container scanning. * Helping teams triage, prioritise, and remediate security findings. * Working with engineering teams to make security checks practical and repeatable. 3. THREAT MODELLING AND SECURITY DESIGN REVIEWS Run threat modelling and security design reviews for new and changed capabilities. This includes: * Facilitating threat modelling sessions with engineering and product teams. * Reviewing authentication and authorization designs. * Assessing API exposure, data flows, trust boundaries, and abuse cases. * Identifying risks around tenant isolation, privilege escalation, data leakage, and misuse. * Documenting key findings, recommendations, and residual risks. 4. OFFENSIVE SECURITY AND ADVERSARIAL TESTING Carry out and coordinate offensive security testing across DTS products and platforms. This includes: * Performing hands-on security testing of products, APIs, and workflows. * Coordinating external penetration tests. * Supporting red team and purple team exercises where required. * Testing abuse cases and attacker paths. * Testing access control, authentication, authorization, and data leakage risks. * Validating remediation of security findings. * Feeding material risks into the ISMS and Risk Officer for tracking. 5. API, INTEGRATION AND DATA PRODUCT SECURITY Provide security assurance for APIs, integrations, and data products. This includes: * Reviewing externally exposed APIs and partner integrations. * Assessing rate limiting, authorization, tenant isolation, logging, abuse prevention, and data leakage controls. * Supporting secure integration between InfoSum, Open Intelligence, Resolve, WPP Open, and third-party platforms. * Reviewing data product workflows for misuse, excessive access, or unintended exposure. * Working with Privacy Engineering on privacy-sensitive APIs, algorithms, and outputs. 6. AI AND AGENTIC SECURITY TESTING Provide hands-on security review and adversarial testing for AI-enabled and agentic capabilities. This includes: * Testing prompt injection, tool misuse, data leakage, and excessive agency. * Reviewing how agents access APIs, data, tools, and workflows. * Testing whether agent permissions can be bypassed or escalated. * Assessing action boundaries and human approval points. * Working with Identity, AI, and Data Access Governance to validate agent access models. * Documenting AI and agentic security risks and remediation actions. 7. ENGINEERING ENABLEMENT AND SECURITY COACHING Act as a practical security partner to engineering teams. This includes: * Providing secure implementation guidance. * Creating lightweight security patterns and examples. * Coaching engineers on common application, API, and AI security risks. * Helping teams understand the “why” behind security requirements. * Supporting a culture where security is part of product quality, not a separate approval gate. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES The Product, Application and Offensive Security Lead will be accountable for: * Hands-on application and product security support across DTS. * Secure SDLC guidance and practical adoption. * Threat modelling and security design reviews. * API, integration, and data product security reviews. * Offensive security and adversarial testing activity. * AI and agentic security testing. * Vulnerability triage, remediation guidance, and fix validation. * Coordination with ISMS/Risk to ensure material risks and exceptions are tracked. * Helping engineering teams build secure systems without unnecessary delivery drag. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE The successful candidate will have: * Strong hands-on experience in application security, product security, offensive security, security engineering, or penetration testing. * Good understanding of modern software engineering, APIs, SaaS platforms, distributed systems, and cloud-native applications. * Experience with threat modelling and secure design reviews. * Practical knowledge of common application and API security risks, including authentication, authorization, tenant isolation, injection, data leakage, privilege escalation, and supply chain risk. * Experience using security testing tools and techniques across web applications, APIs, cloud services, and CI/CD pipelines. * Familiarity with SAST, DAST, SCA, secrets scanning, dependency scanning, and vulnerability management workflows. * Experience working directly with engineers to remediate findings. * Understanding of AI and agentic security risks would be highly valuable. * Ability to communicate clearly with engineering, product, architecture, security, and leadership stakeholders. * A pragmatic, delivery-aware approach to security. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- LEADERSHIP EXPECTATIONS The Product, Application and Offensive Security Lead is expected to: * Be hands-on and technically credible with engineering teams. * Act as a trusted security partner, not just a reviewer or approver. * Challenge insecure designs constructively. * Help teams find practical ways to reduce risk. * Prioritise issues based on real-world exploitability and business impact. * Work across multiple DTS product areas without becoming a delivery bottleneck. * Escalate material risks clearly through the appropriate governance routes. * Promote secure engineering habits through practical guidance and example. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- SUCCESS MEASURES Success in the role will be measured by: * Security being embedded earlier in product and engineering delivery. * Reduction in high-risk application, API, and product vulnerabilities. * Regular threat modelling and security reviews for critical DTS capabilities. * Effective offensive and adversarial testing of products, APIs, and workflows. * Faster remediation of penetration test and security testing findings. * Improved security assurance for AI and agentic workflows. * Engineering teams receiving practical, actionable security guidance. * Material security risks being surfaced and tracked through the DTS risk process. * Security being viewed by engineering teams as an enabler of trusted delivery rather than a blocker. Principal Java Engineer - Backend Platform Salary: £76,340 - £100,340 Per Annum Contract: Full-Time, Permanent Location: Hybrid - minimum 2 days per week in office, Basingstoke/London/Bristol ABOUT THE ROLE The Principal Software Engineer (Full-Stack, Backend-leaning) is a senior engineer responsible for the backend architecture, data pipelines, and API layer of a new sports technology product, while remaining capable of contributing to frontend development as needed. This role sits within a small, fast-moving product engineering team and requires someone comfortable owning end-to-end technical delivery across the stack, with backend and data work as the primary focus. WHAT YOU’LL BUILD You will be a core contributor to a new backend platform being built from scratch. The work spans the full data journey - from ingestion at the edge through to storage, transformation, and delivery to end users. Key areas of focus include: * Low-latency data pipelines that ingest and process live sports tracking data, with strict latency requirements for time-critical outputs delivered to coaches and analysts in near real-time. * Event-driven processing using Kafka for streaming data and control messages between on-site devices and cloud services, handling both fast-path live outputs and asynchronous post-processing workflows via SQS and AWS Batch. * Cloud infrastructure on AWS, including Greengrass for edge-to-cloud orchestration, S3 for video and data storage, and Lambda for lightweight processing tasks. * Data transformation and aggregation layers that normalise tracking outputs, store them in a data lake, and make them available to downstream consumers via clean API contracts. * REST and WebSocket APIs that serve both a live data product for immediate consumption and an insights portal for historical analysis and performance comparison. * Observability and reliability - instrumentation, logging, and tracing are built in from the start, not bolted on. The platform needs to run 24/7 without on-site support. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES * Design and build backend services and APIs (REST/WebSocket) supporting data ingestion, transformation, and delivery to frontend and downstream consumers, with particular attention to latency and throughput given real-time processing requirements. * Own data storage and pipeline architecture, including integration with streaming/event infrastructure. * Implement authentication and authorisation in line with the team's chosen cloud identity and access management approach. * Provide technical direction and review for frontend development (React/TypeScript), working closely with frontend engineers to align on approach, component contracts, and data shapes - this is a collaboration and oversight function rather than day-to-day frontend delivery. * Collaborate closely with computer vision/data science engineers to define and consume data contracts. * Participate in technical decision-making for a product in active development, including architecture choices with long-term implications for scale, latency, and maintainability. * Contribute to technical leadership of the wider engineering team, given the seniority of this role. SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE * Strong backend engineering background with production experience in Java (required). * Demonstrated experience building low-latency, high-throughput systems - this is a core requirement, not a nice-to-have. * Working knowledge of a modern frontend framework such as React/TypeScript, sufficient to review and direct frontend work rather than deliver it independently. * Experience with cloud infrastructure and event-driven architectures (e.g. Kafka or equivalent streaming technology). * Experience designing and evolving API contracts (OpenAPI or similar) in a fast-moving, still-evolving product environment. * Familiarity with modern cloud identity and access management approaches (e.g. AWS Cognito or equivalent) is a plus. * Strong communication skills - able to work directly with product and cross-functional stakeholders, and to mentor or direct engineers outside their own core discipline. * Comfortable with ambiguity: this is a build-phase product with evolving scope and infrastructure decisions still being finalised. BENEFITS AND PERKS * 25 days annual leave (excluding bank holidays) * Enhanced pension scheme with 5% matching * Hybrid working model * Complimentary Unmind wellbeing app * Onsite gym (Basingstoke) * Access to sporting events and tickets * Sony Group Company discounts EQUAL OPPORTUNITY EMPLOYER Hawk-Eye is committed to fostering an inclusive and diverse workplace. We ensure all employees are treated fairly, regardless of gender, marital status, race, nationality, religion, age, disability, or union membership. We value diversity and strive to create an environment where everyone can reach their full potential. APPLY TODAY If you are passionate about building high-performance backend systems and want to work on real-time data products at scale, we would love to hear from you.
WE'RE UNLOCKING ACCESS TO THE NHS, BECAUSE HEALTHCARE IS NOT TRULY FREE UNTIL IT'S TRULY ACCESSIBLE 💙 The world’s best healthcare, for free. It's not a new idea, it's called the NHS. But the largest healthcare provider is fundamentally broken. Patient satisfaction is at an all time low, and the biggest reason cited is lack of access. So we’re on a mission to fix it with technology that actually works. We're building the front door of UK healthcare, creating a future where one billion NHS appointments are transparent and instantly bookable, and patients are guided to the right service first time using AI. We're developing critical national infrastructure. Today, 26% of GP practices in England use our patient registration software, while one in five GP practices in London use Bookable Search to help new patients find and book appointments seamlessly. Our latest product, Bookable Navigator, extends this vision by automatically booking appointments for existing patients. We operate from within a working GP practice in East London 🏥 We're backed by Y Combinator, Innovate UK and the NHS Clinical Entrepreneur Programme, and were previously ranked the 8th fastest-growing startup in the UK and 33rd fastest-growing in Europe 🚀 ⛩️ OUR PRINCIPLES Exciting challenges lie ahead. What we're looking for: * You are operating at a senior or lead level and have 5+ years of experience, with expertise in React and TypeScript * You’ve experienced a startup or scale up especially at an early stage. You’ve been part of a small squad of high performing engineers and you weren’t just “one of many” * You may have a founders/entrepreneurial mindset or have been a technical founder yourself and get the early stage growth journey * You pride yourself on producing high quality code which scales effectively into different environments * You feel accountable for the end-to-end solution and can build our product which can handle various NHS "oddities" * You understand and mitigate the risks of distributed systems, ensuring code that is failsafe even in the cases where things go wrong * You thrive with autonomy, responsibility, and building things that truly matter. Tech environment * Fullstack (Backend leaning): TypeScript or similar * APIs: Designing and consuming scalable, well-structured services * Data: Working with production systems and performance considerations * Experience in scaling product environments or high-stakes domains (health, finance, infra) is a strong advantage.
