The opportunity
Hitachi Energy is establishing an AI Center of Competence (AI CoC) within HVDC Engineering to accelerate the adoption of Artificial Intelligence across engineering, project delivery, operations, and lifecycle services.
We are seeking a highly driven AI Program Manager to build this initiative from the ground up. You will shape the vision, structure, governance, and execution model of the AI CoC, working across global engineering, digital, IT, and business stakeholders.
This is a strategic, high-impact role combining program leadership, organizational development, and AI transformation.
How you’ll make an impact
AI Center of Competence Establishment: Define and build the AI Center of Competence from the ground up by setting its vision, operating model, governance, engagement framework, and success metrics aligned with HVDC and Hitachi Energy strategy.
Strategy, Roadmaps & Execution: Develop and execute multi-year AI roadmaps that translate business challenges into prioritized, funded AI initiatives delivered from concept to industrialized solutions.
Stakeholder & Change Leadership: Mobilize stakeholders, sponsors, and department champions across HVDC to drive organizational alignment, adoption, and trust in AI-driven transformation.
Domain & Problem Ownership: Identify, structure, and prioritize high-value, measurable AI use cases across HVDC engineering domains such as design, simulation, asset lifecycle, project execution, and knowledge management.
Ecosystem & Partnerships: Build and govern a strong internal and external AI ecosystem including digital teams, technology partners, and research institutions to accelerate innovation and delivery.
Program Governance & Delivery: Establish and run robust governance, delivery standards, and performance tracking to ensure AI initiatives are secure, compliant, and deliver measurable business value.
Your background
Proven experience in program or portfolio management in complex technical or engineering environments.
Strong understanding of AI / data / digital transformation concepts (hands-on development not required, but strong conceptual and delivery understanding is essential).
Experience working with multiple stakeholders across business and technology.
Strong strategic thinking combined with execution discipline.
Excellent communication, facilitation, and stakeholder management skills.
Experience building new structures, processes, or organizations from scratch.

This Position reports to: Global SCM Sustainability Manager ABB Robotics is looking for an experienced Program Manager to drive Product Material Compliance across our expanding global business. The Material Compliance Program Manager ensures that products, materials, and components meet global regulatory, legal, and customer requirements related to chemical substances and materials. The role supports product development, sourcing, manufacturing, and lifecycle management by managing substance data, assessing regulatory risks, and enabling market access. Key Responsibilities Ensure regulatory compliance with global material compliance legislation, such as REACH, RoHS, SVHC, PFAS restrictions, EU Batteries, CA Proposition 65, US TSCA, China RoHS, and others. Coordinate cross functional teams to develop and implement the material compliance strategy and processes in line with regulatory requirements and internal policies. Drive continuous process improvements to enhance compliance and reduce risks. Monitor regulatory developments, assess business impacts, and translate requirements into internal policies and actions. Manage material and substance data, supplier declarations, compliance assessments, and risk evaluations. Collaborate with suppliers and cross-functional stakeholders (R&D, Quality, Manufacturing, Legal, Sustainability) to ensure compliance throughout the product lifecycle. Support supplier qualification, new product development, customer inquiries, audits, and regulatory inspections. Prepare compliance statements, maintain audit-ready documentation, and contribute to sustainability reporting. Manage external compliance service providers and facilitate material compliance networks and training activities. Keep management informed of regulatory changes, risks, and program progress. Required Qualifications Education: Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Material Science, Engineering, Environmental Science or related technical field. Experience: 6–10+ years in product compliance, regulatory affairs, quality assurance, or supply chain, particularly within industrial products or electronics. Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of global material compliance regulations such as REACH, RoHS, CA Prop 65 and TSCA. Project Management: Proven ability to lead cross-functional projects, implement compliance programs, and manage stakeholder relationships. Key Skills & Competences Regulatory Interpretation: Ability to read, interpret, and convert complex, evolving environmental regulations into practical, actionable, company-wide procedures. Supply Chain Due Diligence: Experience with supplier engagement, collecting compliance data (such as Full Material Disclosures), and ensuring vendor compliance. Systems Proficiency: Familiarity with Product Lifecycle Management systems, SAP (Material Data Management), and compliance software tools, such as Assent or GreenSoft. General Responsibilities Program Governance & Delivery Oversight * Own end-to-end program governance — establishing the PMO structure, governance forums, and reporting cadences. Risk, Issue & Change Management * Own the program RAID log. * Proactively identify, assess, and prioritise risks across all workstreams with clear ownership and mitigation plans. * Design and enforce the change control process — evaluating scope changes for impact on timeline, budget, and resources before presenting recommendations to the steering committee. Establish escalation pathways and manage critical issues to resolution. * Conduct regular risk workshops to embed a risk-aware culture within the delivery team. Client & Stakeholder Management * Serve as the primary point of contact for clients program stakeholders — building trusted relationships with business sponsors, technology executives, and operational teams. * Prepare and present executive-level status reports, steering committee packs, and milestone reviews to senior leadership. * Facilitate alignment between clients internal teams and the delivery organisation, managing expectations and resolving conflicts. Resource & Capacity Management * Own resource planning across the program — forecasting demand, managing onboarding/offboarding, and ensuring the right skills are available across all workstreams. * Track utilization, manage bench transitions, and coordinate with HR and recruitment for timely fulfilment of open roles. * Foster a high-performance, distributed team culture — supporting wellbeing, recognizing contributions, and maintaining morale. Budget, Commercials & Financial Governance * Own the program budget — tracking actuals against forecast, managing contingency, and producing monthly financial reports for internal and client governance. * Identify and escalate budget risks early; implement corrective actions to maintain P&L health. * Support commercial activities including SOW management, change order negotiations, invoice tracking, and contract renewals. * Contribute effort estimates, resource plans, and delivery timelines to pre-sales and solutioning for new workstreams or extensions. Automation and AI Program Context & Digital Fluency * This role requires a Program Manager with hands-on fluency across modern AI and automation delivery — capable of holding credible, substantive conversations with AI Engineers, Architects on feasibility, timelines, and technical dependencies. * Oversee delivery of intelligent automation and RPA workstreams — understanding bot lifecycle management, exception handling frameworks, orchestration platforms, and the interplay between RPA, AI, and enterprise systems. * Act as a translator and bridge between business stakeholders who think in outcomes and technical teams who think in architectures — facilitating shared understanding and aligned decision-making across both worlds. Continuous Improvement & Reporting * Establish and track program KPIs and OKRs; * Produce regular insights on delivery health, team performance, and program ROI. * Lead retrospectives and implement lessons learned to build a culture of continuous improvement. * Contribute to internal PM frameworks, playbooks, and templates for AI program delivery — creating reusable assets for future engagements. Qualifications & Experience * 5+ years of program management experience managing large-scale digital transformation, Automation, or AI/ML programs. * Experience with UiPath migrations * Proven track record of managing cross-functional teams of 15+ people across multiple concurrent workstreams. * Hands-on experience with Agile, Scrum, and SAFe delivery frameworks; comfortable operating in hybrid Agile-Waterfall environments. * Experience with program financials — budget ownership, P&L tracking, and commercial/contract management. * Exceptional communication and executive presentation skills — able to adapt style for engineering teams, business sponsors, and C-suite audiences.
