We are looking for an experienced full stack Staff Software Engineer (with a focus on UI) who is passionate about building large-scale, mission-critical infrastructure in a fast-paced agile environment. If you are passionate about technical leadership and have a deep expertise in transforming complex products for a global audience, then we want to talk to you.   In this role, you’ll get to… * Define, own, and drive the architectural vision and technical roadmap for a major UI platform subsystem (e.g., internationalization and localization infrastructure), securing buy-in across dependent feature teams. * Serve as the definitive design reviewer for high-impact proposals and cross-team interface specifications, ensuring long-term technical integrity and maintainability. * Drive cross-functional alignment and resolve technical ambiguity for initiatives spanning multiple product teams, translating high-level product strategy into actionable technical architecture. * Shape a culture of continuous learning by proactively sharing knowledge, mentoring Senior Engineers, and establishing best practices. * Empower developers by building reusable components and robust design patterns that help other teams deliver world-ready UIs and APIs efficiently. * Be a hands-on contributor, driving the implementation and ensuring the technical quality of the platform's most complex and foundational components.   Minimum Requirements * 5+ years of software development experience * Expertise in software architecture and implementation, with a strong development background in a language like Java, Python, or C++, and significant experience with frameworks such as Spring, React.js, or Node.js. * A strong grasp of software engineering designs, principles, and practices, with a focus on building scalable and maintainable systems. * You have strong communication skills and can distill complex concepts into simple, easy to understand narratives   Nice to have * Experience defining and implementing internationalization and localization strategies for large-scale enterprise applications. * Deep, specialized knowledge of Unicode, ISO standards, and localization frameworks, with a proven track record of applying this knowledge to solve complex, company-wide globalization challenges. * Familiarity with globalization testing processes. * Experience being part of a platform team treating developers as customers #LI-Hybrid #LI-MA1 P25183_3477628 Below is the annual salary range for candidates located in Canada. Okta Identity Governance (OIG) organization is looking for a Principal Engineer to join our team — OIG is Okta’s Identity Governance and Administration solution that is directly responsible for one of the most critical and visible workflows in enterprise identity: how employees request, approve, and gain access to the resources they need.  Opportunity As a Principal Engineer on the OIG team, you will be involved into development, design, and maintenance of our product to serve enterprise customers at scale. You will involve the architecture and evolution of our product features — spanning the across different access governance personas — and work collaboratively across engineering, product, and design to deliver features that are secure, scalable, and delightful to use. Job Duties And Responsibilities * Take end-to-end ownership of feature areas — from technical design through implementation, testing, deployment, and post-launch monitoring * Design, build, and ship high-quality, production-ready features across the OIG system, with a focus on correctness, reliability, and performance * Quickly deliver high-quality bug fixes and handle customer-reported issues * Write clean, well-tested, maintainable code and hold yourself and teammates to a high bar for engineering quality * Partner with our Product Development, QA, and Site Reliability Engineering teams for scoping the development and deployment work Required Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities * 8+ years of software engineering experience, with at least 3+ years in a senior or staff-level technical leadership role * Proven track record of architecting and delivering large-scale, distributed systems in production environments serving enterprise customers * Deep expertise in microservices, event-driven architectures, APIs, and data modeling at scale * Strong proficiency in one or more of: Java, Kotlin, Go, or equivalent JVM/cloud-native languages used in Okta's backend stack * Demonstrated ability to influence without authority — driving technical alignment across multiple teams and stakeholders * Experience designing systems that meet enterprise reliability, scalability, and security requirements (think: multi-tenancy, high availability, audit logging, RBAC/ABAC) * Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to make complex technical topics accessible to both engineers and non-engineers PREFERRED IF YOU HAVE EXPERIENCE IN ANY OF THE FOLLOWING! * Experience building identity, access management, or governance (IAM/IGA) products or platforms * Familiarity with workflow engines or approval/routing systems (e.g., finite state machines, BPM-style systems) * Experience with enterprise SaaS platforms serving large, complex customer organizations * Hands-on experience with cloud infrastructure (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and modern observability tooling Education  * B.S.
