Job Description
As a Footwear Technologist for H&M Kids, you develop and improve kids’ footwear with a focus on fit, quality and safety. You work closely with Designers, Product Developers, the Production team, and Suppliers to develop and secure the best fit and quality for our customers.
In terms of professional skills and responsibilities, you will:
Lead fit work: follow fitting standards, solve fit issues, and document clear fit comments
Use strong knowledge of footwear construction and manufacturing processes
Travel to suppliers (Far East) to support development, fitting, and production decisions
Build strong relationships with suppliers, factories, and the production office
Manage lasts and measurements to secure correct fit and size standards
Read and update technical documents (blueprints and 3D outsole files)
Use sales and returns data to improve fit, quality, and customer experience
Follow up on issues and drive actions through to resolution
Assess fit, quality, and risks (including basic children’s safety) and document findings
Research and test new lasts, outsoles, materials, and technologies to improve fit and quality
Support Design with technical solutions to achieve the right look, feel, and performance
At least 3 years working as a Footwear Technologist or similar with a BA Fashion degree
Excellent material knowledge (leather, synthetics, textiles)
Great Foot anatomy & fit understanding
Knowledge of CAD & technical drawing skills in Illustrator, and 3D (Rhino or Blender)
Experienced in quality control & testing methods
Trend analysis, keeping up to date with the latest trends
Sustainability awareness
Excellent collaboration and communication skills
Flexible and adaptable mindset
Customer centric mindset with clear understanding of the target customer
Ability to review products and identify risks in wear and production
Ideally experience within kids’ shoes

In short: As a Lead, Innovation commercialization engineer, you will be a driving force at the forefront of On's scale of product evolution. You will operate with a high degree of autonomy to lead complex projects, challenge conventions, and champion innovative approaches that define the future of footwear. This role requires you to master technical complexity, manage key stakeholder relationships, and translate visionary concepts into scalable, performance-driven products. Your Mission: * As a leader within the team, you will independently manage multiple high-impact footwear development projects from confirmation to production, defining methods and procedures for new assignments and potentially supervising other team members. As a senior contributor, you will leverage your expertise to guide and influence both management and your team. * You will spearhead the end-to-end commercialization process, leveraging your expert knowledge of manufacturing processes, fit, material properties, mold and process manufacturing. Your strong root-cause analysis mindset will be crucial in troubleshooting significant and unique issues related to tooling, molding, assembly, fit, and wear. * As the central hub for On’s key manufacturing regions, you will act as a critical liaison between On inline development and production teams, working closely with strategic vendors to ensure product intent is maintained while meeting commercial and operational requirements. You will engineer products for efficient manufacturability, lowest cost, and highest quality and performance. * You will serve as a key influencer and central communication hub, managing expectations and negotiating effectively with diverse internal teams and major external T1/T2 partners and sourcing teams across regions. * Collaborating with computational designers, you will work with upper patterns and tooling construction adjustments to enhance fit, durability, and ensure scalable manufacturing. You will be responsible for full size run grading, technical manufacturing operation manuals, initial production trial, ERP system update, scalability sign off, among others. * You will own the documentation of complex tooling and upper-related issues, defining and communicating clear correction actions to all stakeholders for manufacturing guidelines. Your Story: * 8+ years of progressive experience in the footwear industry, with a significant focus on innovation and bringing new technologies to market. * Bachelor’s or Master's Degree in Engineering, Material Science, or another relevant technical field. * 2D and 3D, computational design and algorithmic capabilities are a plus. * Proven ability to not only lead the scaling of new technologies but also to assess their commercial viability and factory readiness. * Expert-level knowledge of advanced footwear manufacturing processes, including robotics, automation, tooling, molding, injecting, welding, lasting, and assembly. You understand factory capabilities, tolerances, and limitations and know how to engineer for scalable replication. * A natural technical curiosity and a robust, root-cause analysis approach to problem-solving. * Exceptional communication, negotiation, and influencing skills, with the ability to confidently present to senior management and external partners. * A demonstrated ability to work with a high degree of autonomy, navigating ambiguity and making independent judgments on complex and significant issues. * Experience in mentoring junior team members or supervising project activities is a strong plus. * Ability to travel up to 15-20% of the time. Lead - Footwear Material In Short: The Footwear Material Lead plays a pivotal role in ensuring that sourcing strategies align with business needs for all material categories. Reporting to the Head of Footwear Material Sourcing based in HCMC, this role focuses on fostering strong supplier relationships, ensuring supplier performance, and upholding the highest standards of quality, sustainability, and ethical sourcing. In addition, the Footwear Material Lead will drive process optimization and cross-functional collaboration to support product creation and manufacturing excellence. Your Mission: * Lead and inspire a high-performing team of material sourcing specialists while nurturing people skills and cultivating a positive team environment * Build and maintain robust relationships with material suppliers, ensuring alignment with sourcing strategies, operations, quality, and sustainability goals * Partner with suppliers to drive efficiencies and optimize costs; while actively evaluating supplier performance to ensure continuous improvement * Spearhead team in cross-functional collaborations to proactively address perceived risks, pre-production and production challenges and put in place contingencies to ensure brand delivery expectations are met * Develop comprehensive reports and actionable strategic recommendations to drive material consolidation initiatives, enhance key performance indicators (KPIs) for improved efficiency, reduce lead times, and to ensure a resilient supply base that upholds quality standards and on-time delivery * Oversee rigorous material testing processes and collaborate with cross-functional teams to address material-related issues and implement corrective measures * Drive material sustainability initiatives and partner with sustainability teams to set goals, track progress, and contribute to sustainability reporting * Research and analyze market insights, stay abreast of material science advancements, emerging technologies, and market trends of innovative materials. * Perform other duty as required/assign Your Story: * Proven experience leading and managing materials teams, with expertise in fostering collaboration and team development * Deep knowledge of product creation and manufacturing processes for footwear and materials * Strong understanding of material supply chains and the footwear material industry, including vendor capabilities * Advanced verbal and written communication skills to clearly articulate strategy, goals, and objectives * Proficient in data analysis and reporting tools such as Google Suite, Looker, and Hex; experience with Centric PLM is a plus * High integrity a must and accountability in decision-making and actions * Demonstrated ability to work independently, solve problems creatively, accountable for actions/decisions and embrace change * Willingness to travel domestically and internationally as required * English is our working language and fluency in Vietnamese and/or Mandarin is a plus Meet Your Team: The Material team at On is both creative and technical - We translate design visions into performance materials through technical knowledge and experience, but equally come to the table with newness from outside suppliers when the time is right.
