We’re looking for a Principal Engineer to join our global AI Engineering team. In this role, you will be instrumental in designing and building the intelligent, user-facing experiences and the end-to-end AI solutions that power them. This is a senior individual contributor role for a hands-on engineer who can set technical direction, mentor others, and partner closely with our cross-geo counterparts as part of one global team. What you'll do : * Drive the architecture and design of AI solutions, leading cross-functional initiatives across Product, Design, and Data Science. * Design, build, and refine the core backend services that power our AI solutions, including LLM orchestration, RAG pipelines, and generative AI features. * Build high-performance Agentic Experiences (AX) for web and mobile, engineered for streaming responses and low latency. * Champion observability and operational excellence to ensure our AI services meet enterprise-grade standards for reliability and performance. * Develop robust backend services to power our AI solutions, including LLM orchestration, RAG pipelines, and generative AI features * Enable the successful delivery of key AI projects through technical leadership and hands-on execution. * Mentor engineers, raising the bar on technical craftsmanship and solution quality across the full stack. * Collaborate with cross-geo peers to ensure globally aligned designs, shared roadmaps, and scalable architectures. * Partner with Security, Data, and Infrastructure teams to ensure AI adoption is secure, reliable, and enterprise-ready What we are looking for: * 12+ years in software engineering, with a strong emphasis on backend systems design and development (8+ years in Python preferred). * 6+ years with modern front-end frameworks (e.g., React, Next.js, TypeScript), principles of accessibility (a11y), and an ability to collaborate effectively with Product & Design. * Proven experience building and deploying production-grade AI applications and services. * Experience with agentic frameworks like LangChain, LangGraph, and LangSmith is a strong plus. * Strong background in building distributed systems, microservices, and resilient APIs (REST/GraphQL) on cloud platforms (AWS/GCP/Azure). * Demonstrated ability to influence technical strategy and lead architecture decisions across global teams. * Excellent communication skills with experience working effectively across time zones and cultures. We are looking for an experienced Principal Software Engineer to work on our Onboarding and Lifecycle Management (LCM) Platform team with focus on enhancing and managing services for importing, syncing and provisioning identities and access policies i.e., users, groups, roles, entitlements, etc. These features allow customers the flexibility to link and enhance their business processes with Okta’s identity management product. We are looking for a seasoned Principal Engineer to join our team and help us build the future of identity and access management. Ideal candidate should be   Hands-on expert developer in Java who is deeply technical with a passion for building high-quality, secure, and performant applications and frameworks.  Demonstrable experience leading technical projects involving more than 20 engineers across multiple workstreams Excited by the opportunity to work on cutting-edge security and identity management challenges and are a thought leader who can drive technical strategy and mentor other engineers. Job Duties And Responsibilities * Work with senior engineering team in major development projects, design and implementation * Lead the architectural design and implementation of new features and services, with a focus on scalability, performance, and security. * Collaborate with product managers, architects, and other engineering teams to define the technical strategy and lead the prototyping of software components. * Directly oversee and coordinate complex technical initiatives involving 20+ engineers, ensuring alignment across disparate sub-teams * Drive a culture of engineering excellence and continuous improvement, with a focus on robust testing, monitoring, and operational excellence. * Stay up-to-date with the latest industry trends and technologies in identity, security, and distributed systems. * Partner with our Product Development, QA, and Site Reliability Engineering teams for scoping the development and deployment work. Required Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities * The ideal candidate is someone who is experienced building software systems to manage and deploy reliable and performant infrastructure and product code at scale on a cloud infrastructure * 15+ years of Software Development in Java, preferably significant experience with Hibernate and Spring Boot * A deep understanding of design patterns, scalability patterns, security engineering, and object-oriented principles. * 4+ years experience automating and deploying large scale production services in AWS, GCP or similar * Deep understanding of infrastructure level technologies: caching, stream processing, resilient architectures. * Experience working with relational databases, ideally MySQL, PostgreSQL or GraphDB * Strong communication skills and the ability to work across functions, distributed teams. * Lead and mentor junior engineers Nice to haves: * Experience with server-side technologies including caching, asynchronous processing, and multi-threading. * Experience with security best practices and threat modeling * Knowledge of Identity and Access Management protocols and technologies: OAuth, OpenID Connect, SAML, SCIM Education  * B.E.
