See yourself at Twilio Join the team as our next Principal Engineer (L5), Twilio’s Segment team About the job As a Principal Engineer on the Twilio Segment Data platform/ pipelines team, you’ll build and scale systems that process several hundred thousands of data points per second. You will lead the development of high-scale ingestion and data processing systems You'll guide the team in designing, operating and maintaining complex distributed systems, ensuring reliability, performance, and cost-efficiency while querying petabytes of data for our customer data platform (CDP). Responsibilities In this role, you’ll: * Own and deliver robust, high-scale routing experiences for the Data platform/ pipelines team for Twilio Segment. * Architect and operate always-available, complex distributed systems in cloud environments. * Guide technical decisions, articulating trade-offs between cost, performance, and reliability. * Translate complex technical strategies into actionable plans for diverse stakeholders, including Product Managers and Architects Qualifications  Twilio values diverse experiences from all kinds of industries, and we encourage everyone who meets the required qualifications to apply. We are always looking for people who will bring something new to the table! *Required: * Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field. * Hands-on experience with high-scale messaging/streaming systems and processing engines (several thousand events/sec).  * Excellent abilities in high level service design -- modeling interfaces and internals in a properly modular, composable, and extensible way. * Expert programming experience in Go or similar object-oriented languages. * Demonstrated experience identifying, prototyping, and deploying GenAI/LLM solutions to solve real-world engineering or data processing challenges. * Technical depth in distributed systems, high-scale ingestion, and cloud-native architecture. * Excellent communication, problem-solving, and operational excellence skills. Desired: * Proficiency with datastores, distributed caching, and container technologies (Docker/Kubernetes).  * Experience with modern CI/CD pipelines and observability tools (Datadog, Grafana, Prometheus). * Familiarity with AI/ML technologies. * Experience managing and operating AWS infrastructure * Experience working in a geographically distributed team.  Location This role will be remote, and based in India (only in Kanataka, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Telangana, Delhi). POSITION OVERVIEW: As a Principal Software Engineer, you will lead the architecture and development of highly advanced software systems. You will provide strategic technical direction, mentor senior engineers, and ensure that software solutions meet business and technical requirements. WHAT YOU’LL DO: * Define architectural standards and frameworks for software development. * Own the development of critical systems that require high reliability. * Be involved in developing technical roadmaps and attend planning sessions. * Evaluate and embrace new technologies to solve business needs. * Support the engineering team in developing skills and promoting teamwork. * Monitor project timelines and work progress to ensure quality. * Provide technical leadership and mentorship to software developers. * Ensure the technical feasibility and prioritization of new game features. WHAT YOU BRING: * Strong experience in software development, with a proven track record of delivering high-quality, scalable systems. * Proficiency in C# with essential knowledge of Unity. * Proficiency in client-backend integrations. * Strong understanding of software architecture and design principles. * Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to break down complex technical challenges. * Dedication to maintaining code quality through code reviews and alignment with industry standards CI/CD Processes. * Having a very strong understanding of Git and code repository management. * Ability to analyze product code and propose improvement solutions for better performance. * Familiarity with game development and understanding of the gaming industry. * A hands-on management style, with involvement in end-to-end process tracking. * Excellent communication and leadership abilities. * Skill in coordinating with other teams leads to synchronising the development processes. * Understand general business concepts to interpret critical metrics for the business/product (such as DAU, ARPDAU, etc.). * Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Computer Science or a related field.
