Mission Brief As an Avionics Technician within the AIT team, you will play a critical role in the final assembly, integration, and checkout of our launch vehicle's avionic and electromechanical systems. You will be responsible for routing and installing complex wire harnesses, integrating precision sensors and avionics units, and supporting critical test operations. This role requires a high degree of craftsmanship, working with both advanced composite and metallic structures, and operating safely around high-pressure and cryogenic fluid systems. Your Role in Our Space Mission: Key Responsibilities * Harness Routing & Installation: Route, secure, and install complex vehicle wire harnesses in accordance with engineering drawings and aerospace standards. * Structural Bonding & Adhesives: Prepare surfaces and bond ClickBond clips and standoffs to metallic and composite structures. Apply aerospace-grade adhesives. * Avionics Unit Installation: Install and mechanically secure telemetry modules, batteries, and other avionics enclosures. * Precision Mechanical Assembly: Use torque wrenches and calibrated hand tools to mate structural and electrical components, ensuring strict adherence to torque specifications and engineering drawings. * Crimping & Soldering: Perform high-reliability crimping, pinning, and soldering on flight connectors and wire splices. * Rework & Modification: Execute precise rework and modifications on existing wire harnesses, connectors, and pinouts based on engineering change orders. * Sensor Installation & Checkout: Install and connect critical flight sensors (pressure transducers, thermocouples, RTDs, accelerometers, etc.) and verify functionality. * Fluid Connections: Install fluid lines using Swagelok fittings and components for instrumentation and purging systems. * Hazardous Operations Support: Work in close proximity to or directly interface avionics components with Cryogenic Liquid Oxygen (LOX) and Liquid Propellant (LPP) systems, adhering to strict cleanliness (oxygen clean) and safety protocols. * Electrical Checkouts: Utilize multimeters, megohmmeters, and specialized test equipment to perform continuity, isolation, and bonding checks. * Testing & Troubleshooting: Conducting integrated system testing and pre-launch checkouts alone or alongside test engineers Qualifications & Skills * Completed vocational training as an aircraft mechanic, specializing in avionics technician, maintenance technician or comparable training in accordance with the requirements * Proven experience as an avionics, electrical, or electromechanical technician in aerospace, aviation, or high-reliability manufacturing. * Proficient with precision hand tools, calibrated torque wrenches, and electrical test equipment (multimeters). * Experience working on both carbon fiber/composite and aluminum aerostructures. * Strong knowledge of aerospace crimping, soldering, and harness manufacturing standards. * Ability to read and interpret complex electrical schematics, wire lists, and mechanical engineering drawings. * Ability to work in confined spaces and at heights. * Familiarity with safety protocols surrounding high-pressure gases and cryogenics. * High attention to detail and a strong commitment to flight safety and quality. Qualification Checklist * 2+ years of experience in aerospace, rocketry, aviation, or a high-reliability manufacturing environment (eg, defense, motorsports). * Strong background in reading and interpreting complex engineering blueprints, electrical schematics, and wiring diagrams. * Demonstrated experience with precision measuring tools, torque wrenches, crimp tools, and specialized aerospace hand tools. * Comfortable working with hazardous materials, structural epoxies, primers, and solvents. * Familiarity with the hazards of high-pressure systems, hazardous propellants, and cryogenic fluids (LOX/LPP). * Fluent in English and German * Ability to stand for long periods, crawl into tight spaces (inside rocket fairings or stages), and work from ladders or elevated platforms. * Fine motor skills and dexterity for handling small components and delicate wiring. * Ability to lift up to 35 lbs regularly. Bonus Skills * Certifications such as IPC/WHMA-A-620 (Requirements for Cable and Wire Harness Assemblies) or NASA-STD-8739. * Prior experience with launch vehicle integration or test operations. Mission Brief As a Working Student in Test Operations Germany, you will support the team in improving and streamlining test operations for test operations in germany. You will support the development of test infrastructure, contribute to hands-on activities on our test rigs, maintain engineering procedures and documentation, and help optimizing our testing processes.
