CETO Innovation is developing technology for predictive maintenance of district heating infrastructure. Our solution combines an in-pipe inspection probe, sensing technology, and predictive analytics to help utilities understand underground pipelines without excavation or interruption of normal operation. We are looking for a Hardware & Embedded Systems Engineer to help develop the next generation of CETO's inspection probe. Build compact, sensor-rich hardware that can move through district heating pipes, collect reliable inspection data, and support better maintenance decisions. What you'll work on Design, build, and test compact in-pipe probe prototypes Integrate ultrasonic sensors, visual inputs, motor drivers, and embedded electronics Develop and validate small custom PCBs for CETO's probe electronics Develop embedded firmware for sensors, actuators, communication, and control Work on power, communication, signal integrity, thermal stability, and miniaturization Support in-pipe locomotion, traction, actuator function, and tethered power/comms/retrieval Translate system and customer requirements into practical engineering solutions Plan hardware development, testing, and prototype iterations Debug real hardware using test rigs, measurement tools, and structured experiments Validate sealing, vibration resistance, pressure/temperature tolerance, robustness, and data transmission Collaborate with software and ML engineers so the probe produces reliable inspection data What we're looking for Hands-on experience developing and debugging physical hardware, prototypes, test rigs, robots, or mechatronic systems Embedded firmware experience in C/C++ for STM32, ESP32, Arduino, or similar Strong electronics fundamentals: schematics, sensors, actuators, drives, and circuit debugging with a multimeter PCB design or schematic capture experience using KiCad, Altium, Eagle, or similar Experience with UART, I2C, SPI, RS-485/Modbus, or CAN Experience with motors, actuators, motor drivers, or compact electromechanical systems Basic Linux experience, preferably Ubuntu Experience with Git and GitHub Ultrasonic sensing, NDT, robotics, ruggedized hardware, or pressure-resistant electronics is a plus How we work You will join a small, hands-on startup team where everyone takes responsibility for their own work and is expected to show initiative. You should be comfortable working independently when needed, while collaborating closely with the team. In this role, you will work particularly closely with another engineer on the development, testing, and iteration of CETO's hardware system.
