Subject description
Robotics and artificial intelligence aim to develop novel robotic systems that are characterised by advanced autonomy for improving the ability of robots to interact with the surrounding environment and humans during the execution of specific tasks.
Project description
The vision of RAI is aiming in closing the gap from theory to real life, while the team has a strong expertise in field robotics. Specific application areas of focus are robotics for mines, aerial inspection of aging infrastructure, multi-robotic search and rescue, multi sensorial fusion and multirobot coordination, including multirobot perception, decentralization and mission execution. The RAI team has a strong European and National participation in multiple R&D&I projects.
Duties
As a PhD student you will perform research with substantial theoretical and experimental components that should be published in peer-reviewed major international journals and at major conferences. The position will include supervision of MSc and to assist in grant applications from research funding agencies/councils, the EU framework program or the industry. The position might also involve teaching assistance, seminars and presentations.
You will be working in the field of robotic autonomy and all activities will be linked with National, European and worldwide R&D Projects.
The research topic is in the area of Robotics and Artificial Intelligence. More specifically, the position will involve dense research activities in the area of designing, experimenting and theoretical development, with the following research areas providing a template for relevant directions:

Qualifications
To be qualified for the position, you must have a MSc degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering or Computer Science or Agricultural engineering or related subject. Perfect scientific skills with excellence in real life experimentation, as well as very good communication skills are considered as a strong plus. You will represent the group in different occasions, both in Sweden and world-wide, hence very good knowledge in English is a must.

You will perform research with substantial experimental components that should be published in peer-reviewed international journals and at major conferences. The position will include supervision of PhD and MSc students, teaching and supporting in acquiring funds for future research projects from research funding agencies/councils, EU framework program or industry. Qualifications In order to be eligible for employment as post doctor you must have a PhD or a foreign degree equivalent to a PhD in Robotics and AI, Automatic control or related subject. A doctoral degree awarded no more than three years before the application deadline provides a useful qualification. Candidates who have been awarded a doctoral degree at an earlier date may also be considered if there are special grounds, for example, different types of statutory leave of absence. The research tasks require a solid mathematical background with proven advanced experimental capabilities and excellent programming skills (e.g. C++, ROS, Matlab, Python etc.). You should have a strong vision to evaluate and demonstrate the research findings in real life operating conditions, in an approach to close the gap between pure theory and experimental verifications. The research subject of Building materials (https://www.ltu.se/en/research/research-subjects/building-materials?l=en) consists of 15 persons, including four professors and two postdocs. The subject focuses on the development of sustainable materials and production technologies for the construction industry, as well as on ice and arctic conditions-related research and education. Subject description Building Materials includes sustainable building materials and their application technologies, recycling and reuse, and applied building physics, especially focusing on the Arctic conditions. Project description The production of Portland cement still cannot be qualified as an environmentally friendly process due to high CO2 emissions from burning fuels, calcination of limestone, and the negative effects of mining operations. Several solutions are being implemented worldwide, but none have provided an efficient solution. This project aims to study the possibility of substituting the high-temperature clinkering process with a cold synthesis based on mechanochemistry. Duties As a PhD student, you are expected to perform both experimental and theoretical work within your research studies as well as communicate your results at national and international conferences and in scientific journals. The tasks will include laboratory tests, analysis of data, and modeling. Qualifications To be eligible, you must have a master’s degree in materials science or chemistry. You should have basic knowledge of building materials, and you should be fluent in English.
