The opportunity
As the HSE Manager at Power Transformers, you will be responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining comprehensive Health, Safety, and Environmental programs to ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and company policies. You will drive a culture of safety and environmental stewardship across all operations, minimizing risks and promoting well-being for employees and the community.
In this role, you will have direct people management responsibility for the HSE team, including leadership, performance management, competence development, and employee engagement.
You will also be a member of the local management team, contributing to strategic decisions and ensuring that HSE priorities are integrated into business objectives and operational excellence initiatives.
You will play a key role in enabling the energy transition by ensuring a safe and sustainable work environment within one of our most critical business units – Power Transformers.
How you’ll make an impact
Lead, coach, and develop the HSE team while contributing as an active member of the management team, providing strategic HSE leadership and supporting overall business performance.
Develop, implement, and continuously improve HSE policies, systems, and procedures in line with global standards and regulatory requirements (e.g., ISO 14001, ISO 45001).
Lead risk assessments, hazard identification, incident investigations, and ensure effective corrective and preventive actions to minimize risks and improve workplace safety.
Drive HSE compliance through audits, inspections, training programs, and close collaboration with internal teams, contractors, and regulatory authorities.
Monitor HSE performance, manage reporting, oversee environmental and emergency preparedness programs, and ensure compliance with new legislation and industry best practices.
Drive continuous improvement in HSE performance and safety culture, contributing to operational excellence, sustainable business results, and employee well-being.
Your Background
Demonstrated leadership experience, with the ability to influence senior stakeholders and drive change across the organization.
Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Health & Safety, Engineering, or related field; Master’s degree preferred.
8–10 years of progressive HSE experience, ideally within a multinational manufacturing or technology environment.
Strong knowledge of local and international HSE regulations and standards (e.g., ISO 14001, ISO 45001).
Proven ability to develop, implement, and improve HSE systems and programs.
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills, with the ability to engage stakeholders; fluency in English required (additional languages are a plus).

Gemkom Engineering and Machinery Filial is a newly established branch of the Turkish company Gemkom. It is a leading engineering and manufacturing company that operates in a number of areas and in various ways within the steel industry. We are participating in a project where STEGRA (H2 Green Steel) establishes a steel mill in Norra Svartbyn in Boden where steel will be produced through an almost fossil-free process using hydrogen gas. Our mission is, among other things, to install machines used in steel production and includes work in mechanics, electronics and plumbing. We now want to employ a HSE Manager (Health, Safety and Environment Manager). The work tasks may include but are not limited to: Job Description Responsible for preparing HSE plan according to the main contract procedures. Responsible for organizing the HSE team in Boden site. Responsible for the organization in the site between main company, subcontractors and the Employee Final approval for the HSE precautions taken in the site. Responsible for selecting HSE staff for Boden Team if needed. Responsible for leading the monthly and weekly HSE meetings. Desirable qualifications (not mandatory) Having a degree in HSE Engineering. Experience as HSE engineer. Experience of similar EU based industrial project. Having IOSH and NEBOSH certificates. Good command of written and verbal English. Good skills of communication and organization with the team. Knowledge of organizing the HSE plan for the project. No handicap of living at Boden or Lulea.
