About You * You are a senior engineering leader with strong JavaScript and TypeScript experience across frontend and backend, hands-on enough to be credible while operating at the level of the org. * You have built and scaled engineering organisations through significant growth, including hiring and developing engineering managers and tech leads. * You have led Frontend, Backend, and Reliability functions and know how to design the operating model that lets them work together at speed. * You enjoy simplifying complexity and turning ambiguous strategy into clear, executable plans. * You set high standards, attract strong talent, and build trust across teams and with the executive team. * You are highly driven, accountable, and comfortable owning org-level outcomes. * Bonus experience includes React Native, Python, and data pipelines. Your Mission * Own the engineering function end to end: execution, quality, reliability, and people. * Design and evolve the engineering operating model as the company scales, defining ownership, processes, and the leadership bench. * Partner directly with the CTO, the executive team, and Product to set technical direction and ensure delivery against company strategy. * Ensure predictable, high-quality delivery as the company scales without compromising reliability. * Hire, develop, and retain a strong engineering leadership team, raising the bar on talent across the org. SOUNDS GREAT, WHAT WILL I BE DOING? 🤔 As our VP of Engineering you'll define the technical strategy and lead the engineering teams behind two of GWI's core products: our SaaS platform and our Agentic Infrastructure (API/MCP). Reporting into the CTO and working closely with the VP Product, Director Data Engineering, Director of DevOps, and Director of InfoSec, you'll lead 6 agile engineering teams and partner with product management to keep everything aligned with our wider business and product strategy. As part of our Senior Leadership Team, you'll bring strategic leadership and direction to the business. A few things you'll be responsible for: 👉 Own the engineering roadmap and budget across our SaaS platform and Agentic Infrastructure (API/MCP), and the 6 agile teams that build, operate, and evolve them. 👉 Lead and develop your directors and engineering managers, building a collaborative, high-performing culture across the function. 👉 Drive planning and execution across teams, keeping engineering aligned with our business and product strategy. 👉 Set technical direction, making the architecture and technology calls that improve scalability, reliability, and performance. 👉 Champion continuous improvement — especially in AI and agentic systems — to push what the platform can do. 👉 Own platform stability, anticipating technical risk and leading resolution during critical incidents. 👉 Partner with stakeholders, attract top engineering talent, and lead communities of interest in software engineering and AI-native development. You'll need to be flexible, comfortable with continuous change, and working in a high-tempo environment.   WHAT DO I NEED TO BRING WITH ME? 🧳 You'll need to be able to demonstrate the core skills this role requires. You don't have to tick all the boxes right away; the important thing is that you're willing to learn. Here's what the team will be looking for in you: 👉 Extensive experience leading engineering teams behind SaaS products and/or infrastructure platforms, delivering complex products at scale on modern cloud-native architectures. 👉 Proven experience with AI-native development and AI engineering, and a genuine passion for building intelligent, agentic systems. 👉 Cloud architecture experience (GCP strongly advantageous); familiarity with Go and/or Python is a plus. 👉 Line management experience of teams of 25+ engineers across multiple disciplines — international experience ideal. 👉 Experience managing operational costs and budgets ($1m+). 👉 Excellent communication skills — you collaborate across functions, articulate technical concepts, and keep stakeholders updated. 👉 Inspiring, inclusive leadership across a team spread over three locations (UK, CZ & GR), bringing people on the journey. 👉 An agile approach and growth mindset — you fail fast, learn, and adapt. 👉 Strong business partnering and commercial acumen, conveying technical strategy to the wider Senior Leadership Team. 👉 A talent for telling stories through data, making complex information clear for any audience.
