Your team will push the boundaries of what's possible when AI truly understands content: auditing thousands of documents in seconds, surfacing inconsistencies before customers do, and generating perfectly structured documents that respect complex validation rules. With a strong and growing team of 4 engineers and room to scale as the product grows, you'll shape the AI capabilities that turn hours of content work into minutes. You'll balance the technical challenges of LLM integration and agentic workflows with the product sensibility to make AI that content teams actually trust. We also seek someone with strong organizational and planning skills. Leading an engineering team at Sanity is about working with the product manager and designer of the team, to own the strategy, roadmap, and execution. As a senior engineering management leader, you’ll be responsible for growing a strong and engaged team to meet these challenges. WHAT YOU WOULD DO: * Helping a team of talented engineers to organize and prioritize their work for the highest impact. * Balance technical excellence with shipping velocity in a fast-moving environment. * Experience working at a product/SaaS company. * Champion developer experience while building for non-technical content creators. * Influencing the direction of both Sanity and of modern web development and content operations. * Work closely with the Head of Engineering, along with leadership in product management and design, to facilitate teamwork and establish processes that can scale as we do. * Supporting the growth and development of your team and team members. ABOUT YOU: * Based in London, UK, or Oslo, Norway, and able to work at least 2-3 days per week in the office. * 1+ years of engineering management experience & 4+ years of engineering experience, ideally in developer tools or content platforms * Strong technical background in TypeScript/JavaScript and modern web technologies * Ability to navigate ambiguity and drive clarity in product direction * Working knowledge of prompt engineering, evaluation frameworks, and techniques for improving model reliability * Understanding of embedding models, vector search, and how to ground AI outputs in structured data * Ability to distinguish AI capabilities that genuinely solve user problems from those that just demo well * Track record of shipping user-facing products at scale * Experience leading teams building complex, extensible applications * An ability to understand software architecture design considerations Not sure you’re exactly what we’re looking for in this role? In this role, you’ll own the web experience as a product at Sanity. You’ll lead a team of engineers while also scoping projects, driving the roadmap, and partnering cross-functionally to deliver high-impact initiatives. You’ll play a key role in shifting the web team from reactive execution to proactive innovation, leveraging AI to redefine how modern web experiences are built and optimized. Do you love variety? WHAT YOU WOULD DO: * Lead and develop the web team: manage and mentor a team of 2+ engineers, foster a high-performing culture, and ensure strong execution across projects * Own the web roadmap: define priorities, scope projects, and drive delivery aligned with company growth goals * Transform web into a product: shift the team from reactive support to proactive opportunity identification and innovation * Drive AI-native web experiences: leverage Sanity’s platform and emerging AI tools to build scalable, personalized, and dynamic web experiences * Partner cross-functionally: work closely with marketing, design, and product teams to deliver cohesive and impactful initiatives * Lead experimentation and optimization: run A/B tests, iterate on user journeys, and continuously improve conversion and engagement * Own web performance and metrics: be accountable for key KPIs such as conversion rates, engagement, and traffic quality, and build systems to track and optimize them * Balance leadership and hands-on work: contribute technically where needed while guiding the team and ensuring delivery ABOUT YOU: * Based in: San Francisco /Bay Area (preferably) or London alternatively * 8+ years of experience in web engineering, with 1–3+ years in a leadership or team lead role * Strong technical background in modern web development (frontend or full-stack) * Experience owning or contributing to high-impact marketing or product websites * Product mindset: comfortable defining problems, prioritizing work, and driving outcomes—not just executing tasks * Experience working cross-functionally with marketing, design, and product teams * Familiarity with experimentation, analytics, and growth optimization * Interest or experience in applying AI tools and workflows to web development and content * Strong communication skills and ability to align stakeholders across functions WHAT SETS YOU APART: * Experience turning a website into a measurable growth engine * Strong point of view on how AI will transform web experiences and content operations * Experience with personalization, experimentation platforms, or data-driven optimization * Background working in fast-moving, ambiguous environments where you helped define direction * Experience with headless CMS platforms, content infrastructure, or developer tools * Track record of improving key business metrics through web initiatives WHAT WE CAN OFFER: * A highly-skilled, inspiring, and supportive team * Positive, flexible, and trust-based work environment that encourages long-term professional and personal growth * A global, multi-culturally diverse group of colleagues and customers * Comprehensive health plans and perks * A healthy work-life balance that accommodates individual and family needs * Salary Range for San Francisco: $230K - $260K annually. Final compensation within this range will be determined based on the candidate’s experience and skill set.
