We seek a PhD student in Innovation Sciences with the subject focus on Innovations in Energy and Environment
The PhD student will be a central part of the new research project Smart Renewable Energy Systems (SmartRESs) which investigates how to improve the energy flows of small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) with both photovoltaics (PV), electric vehicles (EVs) and biogas production. The SmartRESs project is part of the Halmstad University ProActS research program, a multidisciplinary research collaboration on sustainability and circularity.
The PhD project is inherently interdisciplinary, uniquely combining innovation science, energy technology, and computer science to study how circular, sustainable, and renewable energy systems can be designed, implemented, and adopted within SMEs. The research project integrates perspectives and methods from all disciplines, and the PhD student is expected to engage in all parts while the exact balance between innovation-oriented and technical work can be adapted to the PhD students background, interests, and competencies. The PhD student will have a supervision team which includes experts from all fields.
For the innovation science perspective, the PhD student will map and describe the value creation potential of SmartRESs in SMEs. This includes investigating barriers, drivers, value intentions, and organizational conditions that affect implementation of SmartRESs, and how the system is perceived and adopted by business managers and decision makers.
For the perspective of energy technology and computer science, the PhD student will develop a model using data from collaborating SMEs to simulate the potential gains from SmartRESs. Furthermore, the PhD student will explore how the system best can be designed and, at a later stage, design a proof of concept together with project partners.
The employment is initially funded for 2 years, making it possible to achieve a Licentiate degree. To pursue a full PhD degree, the candidate and supervisors are obliged to apply for additional external funding.

Only those who are or have been admitted to third-cycle courses and study programs at a higher education may be appointed to doctoral studentships. About the position At the Department of Animal and Aquacultural Sciences, Faculty of Biosciences, there is a vacancy for a 100% permanent position as Associate Professor or Professor. About the doctoral project The BRAIGED project aims to develop an explainable AI-driven educational diagnostic assistant enabling new research on how AI technologies create novel prerequisites, opportunities and challenges for learning, decision-making, and clinical reasoning in medicine. The project aims to move explainability beyond a purely technical feature and toward an interactive educational process that supports metacognitive reasoning, student agency, and responsible use of AI. The project will generate new knowledge and practical tools for implementing context-appropriate explainable AI solutions in medical education. A central use case is kidney disease (e.g., CKD) and clinical reasoning using renal scintigraphy imaging alongside tabular and textual clinical data. The project integrates experiential learning models and simulation-based learning scenarios, grounded in the paradoxical inquiry framework, to recognize and embrace contradictions inherent in AI-driven medical training. About the position A PhD Research Fellowships is available at the Department of Mathematics, University of Oslo (UiO), in the research group of Prof. Andreas Carlson. Starting date as soon as possible, latest by January 1, 2027. The fellowship period is three years. No one can be appointed for more than one PhD Research Fellowship period at the University of Oslo. The position is associated with projects funded by the Research Council of Norway (HAIRY, LUBRIBOT) and the European Research Council (TWIST). The research will provide a fundamental understanding of the physical processes that arise when droplets interact with soft fibres of complex geometry. A central focus is to develop a new understanding of droplet wetting on fibrous structures, as well as the coupling between active surface properties (and their temporal changes) and external driving mechanisms/forces. This will be achieved through design of new experiments, as well as developing new theoretical understanding of the flow physics. The projects aim to design and investigate new fibre and surface geometries for flow control and for applications such as water harvesting from atmospheric fog. The physical designs will be partly bio-inspired and will emphasize sustainability. The projects offer opportunities to collaborate with both national and international collaborators. The PhD student will: • Develop experiments of droplet flow and wetting on twisted fibers and on soft materials. • Be directly involved in integrating experiments and theoretical prediction. • Develop a new understanding of the fundamental flow physics through theoretical and/or numerical work. • Develop independence and be self-driven to advance with their research project. • Work in an interdisciplinary team with expertise in mechanics, complex fluids, physics and biophysics and sustainability thinking. • Follow our PhD program that include an educational component.
