The Department of Chemistry and Molecular Biology conducts high-quality research and education in chemical sciences and molecular life sciences. Our research and education focuses on a deep understanding of chemical and biological processes in cells and in the environment. We are responsible for postgraduate education in the subject area Natural Sciences with a focus on chemistry, biophysics, biology and educational science. In addition, the department hosts educational programs in molecular biology, genomics and systems biology, chemistry, organic chemistry and pharmaceutical chemistry, as well as prescription education. The department is an international environment with interdisciplinary collaborations in both research and education and contributes strongly to the University of Gothenburg's top ranking in life science. We are located in central premises at Natrium, Medicinareberget, Gothenburg.
The group of Professor Marc Pilon performs basic research on molecular pathways that regulate lipid metabolism and membrane homeostasis using mostly the nematode C. elegans as model organism.
Duties
The postdoctoral fellow would be expected to carry out independent/semi-independent research leveraging the collection of C. elegans mutant alleles and/or the expertise of the Pilon group to further advance our understanding of lipid/membrane homeostasis. Task will likely include hypothesis formulation, setting and performing forward genetics screens using C. elegans and characterization of pathways using combinations of genetic interactions studies, microscopy, CRISPR/Cas9 genome editing among other methods.
Qualifications
To be eligible for appointment as a postdoctoral researcher, an applicant must have obtained a doctoral degree, or a foreign qualification deemed equivalent to a doctoral degree. This eligibility requirement must be met by the time the appointment decision is made. Preference should be given to applicants who obtained their doctoral degree no more than three years prior to the closing date for applications. In exceptional circumstances, the doctoral degree may have been obtained earlier.
Additional requirements:
Very good oral and written proficiency in English.
PhD, or an international degree deemed equivalent to a PhD, in the general field of cell and molecular biology, completed no more than three years before the last date for applications.
At least one first-author publication in the general field of cell and molecular biology.
Meritorious:
Previous experience working with C. elegans.
Previous experience working with lipid/membrane homeostasis.
Employment
The position is fixed-term for 2 years (an extension of one additional year may be possible) on a full-time basis (100%) with placement at the Department of Chemistry and Molecular Biology at the University of Gothenburg. Start in Fall 2026.
