Join our innovative team as a Combustion Engineer and immerse yourself in the world of cutting-edge combustion technology. As a Combustion Engineer, you will play a key role in ensuring the performance, reliability, and environmental compliance of our gas turbine combustion systems. Your work will span the full product lifecycle, from supporting new technology development to resolving operational challenges across our global fleet.
A typical day may include planning and conducting combustion tests, analysing test and field data, evaluating emission performance, and collaborating with experts in design, controls, service, and product support. You will investigate combustion-related issues, identify root causes, and help implement solutions that improve reliability, fuel flexibility, and operational performance.
Working at the forefront of combustion technology, you will contribute to the ongoing transition toward lower-emission power generation, including the integration of hydrogen and other sustainable fuels. The role offers a combination of hands-on engineering, technical problem-solving, and cross-functional collaboration, providing opportunities to make a tangible impact on both current products and future technologies.
How You’ll Make an Impact
Plan and execute combustion testing, analyse test and operational data, and troubleshoot field issues to improve performance, emissions, reliability, and fuel flexibility across both new developments and the existing fleet.
Support the development, validation, and optimization of combustion technologies for current and future products.
Collaborate with colleagues across Design, Controls, Performance, Service, and Product Support to deliver effective technical solutions.
Communicate technical findings and recommendations clearly to customers and internal stakeholders.
Help advance technologies that enable lower emissions, increased fuel flexibility, and a more sustainable energy future.
Additional Information
This role includes supporting our global product fleet as part of the normal day-to-day work. Following onboarding and experience building in the role, you will also take part in an occasional planned support rotation. The rotation occurs infrequently, typically less than once per month, and may involve daytime support during weekends.
What You Bring
You Either have experience in hot gas turbine commissioning, Emission tuning or have an academic background with a degree in Experimental Combustion, Fluid Dynamics or Chemical Engineering.
Preferably Proven experience in combustion engineering and a deep understanding of combustion principles and technologies.
Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
Proficiency in English; Swedish is a plus.

A Snapshot of Your Day Do you want to help develop the next generation of gas turbines and contribute to a sustainable energy future? As an R&D Mechanical Design Engineer within Combustion, you will be a member of our team, designing and developing components for combustors, burners and fuel manifolds. You will work on advanced designs exposed to extreme temperatures and dynamic loads, where your expertise is essential to ensure robustness, lifetime, and high performance. You take full responsibility for your solution from design to installation by using tools such as the CAD tool NX and Teamcenter. How You Will Make an Impact Develop and optimize mechanical solutions for burners, combustors, and related components. Create concepts, 3D models, and drawings in CAD (NX) and document technical solutions. Choose material and production method for hot components. Participate in development projects from idea to finished product, including design reviews and technical analyses. Act as a technical contact for suppliers and our in-house workshop. Support order design, service, and procurement with technical expertise. Contribute to improving methods, processes, and standards within design. What you bring Master’s degree or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering. Experience and interest in mechanical design, preferably in high-temperature components or turbomachinery. A self-driven problem solver who enjoys collaborating in cross-functional teams and communicates effectively. Responsible, curious, structured, and eager to develop and learn, as well as share knowledge with others. Solid knowledge of 3D CAD (NX is a plus) and understanding of strength calculations. Fluent in English, both spoken and written; Swedish is an advantage. Meritorious Experience with gas turbines, welding, or additive manufacturing. Knowledge of SAP and PLM systems. We are a skilled, dedicated, supportive, and international team of 12–15 people working on developing burners and combustors for gas turbines, focusing on high efficiency, low emissions, and future fuels such as hydrogen. Here at The Exploration Company, we are developing, producing, and operating Nyx, a modular and reusable space orbital vehicle that can eventually be refuelled in orbit and that can carry cargo - and potentially humans in the longer run. We are seeking a talented Combustion Devices Development Engineer to join our Future Project division in the development of the Storm Engine. As a key member of our engineering team, you will be responsible for designing, analyzing, and optimizing combustion devices for cryogenic rocket engines. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES * Carry-out the functional and hydraulic design of combustion devices * Review subsystems requirements and carrying out trades to define combustion devices architecture * Supervision of external subcontractors * Organize and support combustion devices component test campaigns (configuration definition, test preparation, execution and results analyses) * Develop and update fluidic models based on literature review and/or experimental data * Iterate subsystem designs using simulated and/or real-world test data WHAT WE WOULD LOVE TO SEE FROM YOU * Masters/bachelors with honours or higher in Aerospace Engineering, or a related and applicable technical discipline * Hands-on experience developing hardware from concept to working hardware * Strong technical fundamentals in design, fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, and heat transfer * Proficient with CAD (Siemens NX is an asset), and/or other CAE design * Experience with analysis software (FLUENT or OpenFOAM preferred) * A methodical approach to problem-solving and design trades * Experience writing software/scripts in languages such as Python * Familiar with cryogenic fluids is a strong asset SKILLS AND BEHAVIOURS * Strong oral and written communication skills * Strong analysis and problem-solving skills * Strong organizing and prioritization of tasks * Excited for the future of space exploration and a strong interest in propulsion systems * Demonstrates behaviours consistent with The Exploration Company’s core values of Mission, Vision, Integrity, Excellence and Teamwork * Space enthusiast: ready to have an impact on the future global space industry Why you should join us!
