The Global Bank tribe at SumUp, builds the financial tools that help small businesses manage their money more confidently,

including Expenses and Making Tax Digital, two products that sit at the heart of SumUp's accounting and compliance offering. In

this role you will join a small, senior squad, at a genuinely exciting moment: we starting with Making Tax Digital in the UK,

where merchants can now submit Income Tax assessments digitally, SumUp's vision is to expand this into a full suite of Accounting

tools - covering Income Tax assessment, VAT submission, and financial reporting across multiple markets. This is genuinely

early-stage, high-impact work, and the Expenses and MTD squad is where it begins.

We are looking for a fullstack engineer who can own end to end delivery work across both the frontend and backend. You'll work

closely with two senior engineers, a Product Manager, a Designer, and an Engineering Manager - with the reach and resources of a

global 200 person tribe behind you, and product impact at scale.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

Build and maintain full stack features across the Expenses and MTD products, working across the React.js frontend and

Node.js/TypeScript backend

Contribute to the major initiative to integrate Expenses directly into the Business Account transaction history, including API

refactoring and frontend changes

Take ownership of backend service reliability within the squad, including CI/CD workflows, Kubernetes deployments, and

observability tooling

Collaborate with Product, Design, and cross-functional squads to deliver clean, testable, and maintainable code, with a focus

on user experience

Participate in code reviews, contribute to architectural decisions, and help evolve the squad's engineering practices

YOU'LL BE GREAT FOR THIS ROLE IF…

Solid proficiency in Node.js and TypeScript, with a track record of building and maintaining microservices
Hands-on experience with React.js and a history of delivering maintainable, user-facing frontend features
Comfortable working in a small, autonomous squad where ownership is expected from day one
Experience reasoning about API design, incremental migration paths, and architectural trade-offs, including familiarity with

event-driven concepts and tools such as Kafka or RabbitMQ

Clear and confident communication skills, with the ability to articulate technical decisions and feedback to product, design,

and cross-functional partners

The opportunity: Fullstack Engineer As a Full Stack Engineer, you will take primary ownership of our frontend experience while being capable of making the backend changes needed to unblock yourself and your team. You'll work closely with Backend Engineers, DevOps Engineers, and stakeholders to deliver scalable, reliable, and high-performance products end-to-end, from pixel to API. Given that most of our team is located in the Netherlands, we only consider candidates for this position who live within commuting distance of our office in Amsterdam. WHAT YOU'LL DO IN THIS ROLE * Design, develop, and maintain frontend components in Angular (and Lit HTML where applicable), ensuring optimal performance, responsiveness, and usability. * Own the integration layer between frontend and backend: consume and contribute to OpenAPI-defined APIs, handle data contracts, and wire up microservices cleanly. * Make targeted backend changes, new endpoints, tweaks to existing services, minor data model updates, so you can ship features without always depending on a dedicated backend engineer. * Contribute to architectural discussions across the full stack, from UI component structure to API design and data access patterns. * Participate actively in code reviews, providing feedback on both frontend and backend code quality, adherence to standards, and performance. * Mentor and support junior engineers across the stack. * Stay current with evolving frontend and full-stack best practices. WHAT YOU BRING TO THE TABLE * 3+ years of experience in frontend or full stack engineering. * Strong proficiency in Angular and experience with component-based frameworks such as Lit HTML. * Solid understanding of responsive design, UX/UI principles, and a keen eye for design detail. * Proven experience integrating with APIs and microservices, you understand HTTP, REST conventions, auth flows, and error handling deeply. * Working proficiency in Python, enough to navigate a FastAPI codebase, add or adjust endpoints, and write Pydantic models and SQLAlchemy queries. * Familiarity with relational databases (MySQL/PostgreSQL) at the query and schema level. * Experience with containerised workflows using Docker. * Excellent problem-solving skills; comfortable working independently and collaboratively. * Strong English communication skills and ability to work across disciplines. * Comfortable using AI-assisted development tools (e.g. Claude Code, Cursor, or similar) as part of daily workflow. * Familiarity with LLM API integration (OpenAI, Anthropic, or similar) and an understanding of the UX patterns specific to AI-powered features.
