This is a Hybrid, Bangalore role, reporting to the Sr. Director, Application Engineering - Central Authority in the Central Authority department. You will work on the control plane for the Zscaler Internet Access (ZIA) product, which has redefined how security services are delivered in the cloud. You bring a deep understanding of security protocols and services to help us build the next generation of cloud security. What you’ll do (Role Expectations) * Lead the technical roadmap to modernize enterprise platforms using API-first design and microservices architecture * Design, develop, and deploy highly resilient, low-latency, event-driven solutions while maintaining ownership from API tiers to back-end services * Drive a culture of quality by setting coding standards, performing code reviews, and championing TDD/BDD practices and mentorship * Partner with Product, DevOps, and System Architects to translate complex business needs into scalable, high-performance technical solutions * Manage service lifecycles via Docker/Kubernetes and ensure system health using observability tools like Prometheus and Grafana Who You Are (Success Profile) * You thrive in ambiguity. What We’re Looking for (Minimum Qualifications) * Foundational understanding of AI/ML technologies and experience leveraging, securing, or positioning AI-driven solutions to optimize outcomes within your functional domain * 13+ years in software development, with at least 8+ years specializing in production-grade microservices * Hands-on experience in modern programming languages such as Java, Go, or Rust * Expertise in distributed data patterns (CQRS, Event Sourcing) and event-driven communication (Kafka, RabbitMQ, or SQS) * Extensive hands-on experience with Docker and Kubernetes within AWS, Azure, or GCP environments, alongside proficiency in both SQL (PostgreSQL, MySQL) and NoSQL (Cassandra, MongoDB, or Cosmos DB) database design and scaling What Will Make You Stand Out (Preferred Qualifications) * Experience implementing AI-assisted engineering tools or integrating predictive AI/ML models to optimize control plane resiliency and automated scalability * Experience with Service Mesh technologies such as Istio or Linkerd * Practical knowledge of chaos engineering and advanced performance testing tools #LI-Hybrid #LI-VV3 At Zscaler, we are committed to building a team that reflects the communities we serve and the customers we work with. This role focuses on building and maintaining scalable backend integrations using AWS services, powering mission-critical data flows across internal systems in Finance, People, Sales, Legal, and Engineering. You’ll develop solutions leveraging tools like AWS Lambda, SQS, SNS, and languages such as Node.js and Python, integrating systems such as Salesforce, NetSuite, Workday, Snowflake, and other enterprise platforms. If you thrive on backend architecture, cloud automation, and building systems that scale, this role is for you. This role is based in Bangalore, India, reporting to the Senior Manager, Systems Development, and collaborating closely with global engineers, system analysts, and architects. You Will: * Design, build, and maintain backend integrations using AWS services such as Lambda, S3, SQS, SNS, and EventBridge * Develop API-based automations and orchestrate data flows between Salesforce, NetSuite, Workday, Snowflake, and other SaaS platforms * Refactor and enhance legacy integration logic to align with modern architecture standards * Own your code from design through CI/CD (GitLab) and deployment via Terraform/CloudFormation * Collaborate with US-based engineers on shared initiatives, sprint planning, code reviews, and technical handoffs * Participate in a shared production support rotation, resolving critical integration and data pipeline issues * Provide technical mentorship to junior engineers, especially on high-complexity initiatives * Partner with architects and BSAs to review integration design and testing strategies for reliability and resilience * Support both ETL-style batch pipelines and real-time event streaming using CDC and platform events * Contribute to evolving team SOPs, architecture standards, and shared development libraries * Lead backend development within complex cross-functional projects, including work breakdown and delivery tracking You Have: * BS in Computer Science, related field, or equivalent industry experience * 7+ years of experience in backend software development or automation using Node.js, Python, VS code or similar * Strong experience with AWS services, especially Lambda, S3, SQS/SNS, EventBridge, DynamoDB * Expertise in database design, schema modeling, and query optimization (DynamoDB & Snowflake preferred) * Strong grasp of integration design patterns, secure API development (REST/SOAP), and system interoperability * Develop and maintain GitLab based CI/CD pipeline implementations for tests, linting, deployment, etc. * Experience with managing infrastructure as code (Terraform, CloudFormation) * Demonstrated experience building and maintaining integrations with Salesforce, NetSuite, Workday, Coupa, Stripe, Snowflake * Familiarity with data validation, schema evolution, and cross-system reconciliation (preferred) * Excellent collaboration and communication skills in a distributed, global team setting * Confidence navigating production environments, owning critical issue resolution from end to end * Experience delivering integrations and automation solutions across Finance, People, Sales, Legal, BI * Proven ability to lead initiatives and proactively communicate with technical and non-technical stakeholders * Comfortable working independently, while also mentoring and reviewing work for Level 1/2 developers * The flexibility to adjust to changing priorities, new technologies, and evolving project requirements. * Comfortable operating in an Agile environment, and familiar with Sprint ceremonies like Daily stand-up, Sprint planning,Sprint Finalization etc.  * Familiar with prompt engineering / Generative AI for code generation is preferred   Get to Know Us: At Smartsheet, your ideas are heard, your potential is supported, and your contributions have real impact.
