Subject description Electric Power Engineering covers studies of sustainable systems for production and transpor-tation of electrical energy, and the interaction between power grid, electricity production, and electricity consumption. Project description The project aims to develop models that describe how HVDC installations affect, and are af-fected by, power quality in electrical networks up to 150 kHz. Measurements will be used to further develop existing models and to distinguish between primary and secondary emissions as well as nonlinear interactions. The results will provide the basis for a generalized model of emission and immunity related to HVDC installations.The study will also investigate network resonances, interactions between multiple HVDC in-stallations, and the effects on transformers and other grid-connected equipment. The project is carried out in collaboration between Luleå University of Technology (LTU) and Hitachi Energy. Duties A PhD position involves both theoretical and practical work. As a doctoral student, you will be trained in scientific research through the publication of journal articles and presentations at national and international conferences. You will also complete both mandatory and elective doctoral courses. In addition, you may have the opportunity to gain teaching experience. As a researcher, you often work as a neutral party in various contexts, providing an excellent opportunity to learn how to manage and contribute to challenging development and research projects. Your work will primarily focus on theoretical modeling and simulations, although laboratory and field measurements may also form part of the research activities. Qualifications You are qualified to apply for this position if you have an MSc or equivalent technical degree with specialization appropriate for research in electrical power engineering such as electrical engineering, electronics, energy, engineering physics or similar areas. Alternatively, an indi-vidual fulfills the general eligibility requirements for the third-cycle educational program when he or she 1) has completed a second-cycle degree, 2) has completed higher education courses worth at least 240 credits, of which at least 60 are for second-cycle courses, or 3) in some other manner, in this country or abroad, has acquired the equivalent qualifications courses in electrical engineering. Advanced knowledge of written and spoken English is re-quired. Previous experience in research, development or research-oriented education in a subject relevant to the tasks is considered a merit. You have strong communication and leadership abilities that enable you to lead complex research and development projects, often in collaboration with other departments, consultants, universities, and industry partners. You have experience in a ventilation-related role within the mining industry, with a preference for hands-on industry experience over purely academic work. Advanced modelling skills in Ventsim are preferable, and you have practical experience working with mine ventilation automation and control systems, such as ventilation-on-demand applications or air quality monitoring system design. Knowledge of Ventsim Control, Deswik software, and other mine ventilation control software like ABB Ability Ventilation Optimizer is considered a strong asset. You show interest in health and safety, sustainability, and continuous learning, and find excitement in new ideas and thinking outside the box.
