About the research project The aim of this project is to investigate the use of Graphene related two-dimensional (2D) materials to improve the performance and efficiency of lithium-ion batteries. 2D materials such as graphene, MXenes, and transition metal dichalcogenides possess high electrical conductivity, large surface area, and excellent mechanical strength, which can enhance charge transport and energy storage capacity. These materials can help address major limitations of conventional lithium-ion batteries, including slow charging rates, low energy density, overheating, and poor cycle stability. The project also aims to explore the functionalization of 2D materials and understand how 2D materials can improve battery safety, extend lifespan, and support the development of lightweight and high-performance energy storage systems for future technologies. About us Chemical Physics develops sustainable energy systems by using heterogeneous (electro) catalysis for alternative fuel production, emission control, energy storage, and fuel cells. The research is interdisciplinary with strong connections between fundamental and applied science. Chemical Physics is a dynamic and international environment that strives for scientific excellence through teamwork and combined theoretical and experimental efforts. The theoretical activities at Chemical Physics focus on electronic structure calculations within the density functional theory together with mean-field modeling and Monte-Carlo simulations for reaction kinetics. By linking quantum mechanical calculations with kinetic modeling, it is possible to bridge both length and time scales. About the research project Proton-exchange membrane fuel cells (PEMFC) convert the chemical energy in hydrogen to electrical energy. The main parts of a PEMFC are the anode, cathode and electrolyte. The reactions at the anode and cathode electrodes are catalyzed by metal nanoparticles on carbon. A current issue for large scale implementation of the PEMFC technology is long-term stability. The project will use atomistic first principles methods to understand the governing mechanism for fuel cell degradation. Increased understanding of the governing processes will provide information on how catalysts could be improved and how the system should be operated to minimize degradation. The project is a collaboration between Volvo Technology AB and Chemical Physics at Chalmers. Utföra regelbundna kvalitetskontroller på site. Delta vid förbesiktningar samt del- och slutbesiktningar. In this role, you will contribute to building next-generation capabilities for assessing battery health and lifetime, enabling smarter decisions across the lifecycle of electric vehicles—from first use to second-life applications. You will work closely with experts in data science, software, and engineering, bringing critical domain knowledge to ensure that battery insights are technically sound, interpretable, and actionable. What You Will Do Develop and validate methods for State of Health (SOH) and Remaining Useful Life (RUL) estimation for Li-ion batteries Analyze real-world vehicle and battery data to understand degradation behavior over time Interpret and explain battery aging based on factors such as: Temperature State of Charge (SOC) Depth of Discharge (DoD) Charging patterns and C-rate Load profiles and usage conditions Compare and evaluate on-board BMS health estimates vs. off-board analytical models Define confidence levels, limitations, and applicability of lifetime predictions Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure models are physically grounded and credible Translate battery health insights into practical recommendations for: Lifecycle planning Residual value and risk assessment Warranty and service strategies Second-life and reuse scenarios What We Are Looking For Strong background in Li-ion battery technology and degradation mechanisms Experience with battery lifetime assessment, including: Calendar aging Cycle aging Real-world usage effects Deep understanding of: SOH and RUL Capacity fade and resistance increase Performance degradation in field conditions Experience working with battery data from vehicles, BMS systems, or testing environments Ability to critically evaluate models and challenge assumptions Experience collaborating with data scientists, engineers, and business stakeholders Strong communication skills—able to explain complex battery behavior clearly Meriting Experience Experience with battery systems in electric vehicles (BEVs) Exposure to second-life, residual value, or warranty risk analysis Experience comparing BMS estimates with external models Basic ability to work with Python, SQL, or similar tools Background in high-utilization or commercial vehicle applications Education Degree in electrochemistry, battery technology, electrical engineering, materials science, or similar Advanced studies within energy storage systems are a plus Why Multiply Work on real-world electrification challenges with direct impact on sustainability and lifecycle efficiency Combine deep engineering knowledge with data-driven decision-making Collaborate in cross-functional teams spanning software, data, and systems engineering Contribute to building scalable capabilities for next-life battery use and optimization

About the role As Marketing Coordinator, you will work across a broad range of marketing and communications activities. You will coordinate the production and publication of Comsys marketing materials, support product launches, and help maintain a professional and consistent brand presence across all channels. Much of our communication is published through digital channels, particularly LinkedIn, so you should be comfortable creating content and managing both organic and paid social media activities.
