The Inlet Recovery Home is a Stabilization and Supported Recovery program that provides a structured, stable living environment for individuals in early recovery. The program provides short-term (30-90 days) housing and recovery supports for up to eight individuals as they transition from intensive treatment and towards the next phase of recovery. The program provides 24/7 staffing support to individuals, including case management and individualized recovery planning, peer support, life skills development, connection to employment and education opportunities, and support accessing long-term treatment programs or other mental health and addiction services. Note this program is a non-clinical recovery residence and is designed for individuals who have completed (or do not require) treatment services that involve medically supervised withdrawal care. ROLE PURPOSE This position will provide casework and support to residents of Inlet Recovery Home in order to enhance their quality of life, to ensure the orderly and safe operation of the facility, maintain the goals of supportive recovery and individualized service plans, and to provide operational guidance to residence workers. STATUS AND CLASSIFICATION Unionized. This position is open to applicants of all genders. HOURS 40 hours per week; Sunday to Thursday, 1600 - 0000 Please Note: We anticipate conducting interviews in mid-May for start in early June. REPORTING AND WORKING RELATIONSHIPS * Reports and is accountable to the Program Manager or their designate * Participates actively in house, staff, and staff/resident meetings * Participates as a member of the Connective staff team * Liaises with outside professionals from other agencies or government bodies as required KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES Programs * Assists the Program Manager in providing orientation, training, work direction, and operational guidance to residence workers by performing duties such as clarifying program policies, and reviewing work. * Provides input to residence workers’ performance evaluations. * Participates in the assessment, goal setting and program planning (Personal Service Plan) for individuals living in a residence. Documents, implements, and provides input into the evaluation of the program. * Observe residents and document any medical, behavioural, or other issues of concern; communicate observations to relief staff and management. * Interviews clients to prepare care plans and background information for which confidentiality is required * Is cognizant of, and work towards the implementation of the service plan established for each resident * Meets with each resident on a routine basis to discuss progress and plan future interventions * Assists the Program Manager and/or other staff in the identification of potential problems and reports any difficulties, concerning/unsafe resident behaviours, and facility/equipment issues. * Uses professional judgement to ascertain and to apply appropriate intervention techniques with residents in crisis. * When assigned, participates in social, recreational, employment, educational, and other programs as appropriate to assist the resident’s service plan. * Contributes to the evaluation of the resident’s progress and makes both written and oral reports to be available to the remainder of the staff team * Maintains client files including statement of goals, summaries, case notes, reviews, discharge reports, and other relevant documentation. * Develops and maintains an in-house resource area containing current information/brochures of programs and services which are available to residents * Ensures residents are in compliance with the terms of their residency and are aware of the rules of the facility * Acts as an on-site advocate for each resident * Assists residents with activities of daily living; encourage and support residents to live fully and independently as possible; provide emotional, organizational, and practical support. * Promote healthy choices with regards to daily living and provide guidance and assistance where appropriate, including encouragement of resident personal hygiene, laundry, cooking and cleaning. * Provides emotional support and feedback to residents and their families * As appropriate, supports residents towards integration with the community * Acts as a positive role model for clients, providing life skills training and behaviour management as appropriate * Dispenses and ensures the taking of medications as required * As necessary, provides transportation and assists residents to attend appointments * Assist in orienting residents, including providing information regarding daily operations, commitments as outlined in the Program Agreement, and protocols relating to safety, building maintenance, and daily operations. * As assigned, assist the Integrated Substance Use Coordinator with the preparation or implementation of recovery programming or other activities. Community * Works with volunteers to support and enhance the goals of the residence programs * Identifies social, economic, recreational, employment, and educational services in the community that will meet the needs of the client * Maintains effective liaison with other agencies, professionals, government officials, and the community in order to contribute to the success of the service plan goals of the resident Residential * Supervises the activities of the residence, its residents, and volunteers while on shift including maintaining case notes and other documentation. * Monitors and ensures safe, effective operation of the facility including quality control concerning cleaning equipment, indoor and outdoor maintenance, inventory, and food storage. * Oversees and supports residents with meal scheduling, preparation, and clean up; monitors food inventory. * Ensures the safety and security of the residence by adhering to safety protocols and procedures; act safely in response to resident disturbances, unwelcome visitors, wellness checks, critical incidents, and emergencies, contacting appropriate staff, services, or authorities as required. * Perform and record light janitorial duties, including the maintenance of clean indoor and outdoor common areas and ensuring rooms are prepared for new residents. * As assigned, is responsible for the weekly grocery shopping for the residence and involves the residents in this process. * As assigned, assists with the details of the operation of the facility, including but not limited to administrative support. * As required, accompanies residents to appointments and community outings, following any restrictions imposed by the courts/review panels. Other * Participates in an on-call rotation with the Program Manager and other senior staff; while on-call, is available 24 hours/day to respond to incidents or emergencies, or to schedules coverage utilizing residents workers/casual pool. * Participates in staff and resident/staff meetings * Assists with the orientation and training of new staff and volunteers * Other duties may be assigned from time to time WORKING CONDITIONS * Functions independently while on shift and adheres to Connective’s policies and procedures * Works in a stressful environment at times, often dealing with clients in crisis situations * Demonstrates a level of physical fitness to effectively carry out the required duties of the program and to meet the operational needs of the residence * Be available to work flexible hours as needed; may include evenings/overnights/weekends, as determined by the Program Manager. * Provides appropriate personal transportation with required business insurance coverage to enable the movement of the worker and resident, as required by the goals of the program. * Is a member of CUPE local 1936-11 QUALIFICATIONS * Diploma, preferably in behavioural sciences, social work, community social services or criminology or equivalent with two-years related experience. * Experience in the appropriate field and demonstrate a clear ability to respond well in crisis situations * An understanding of providing service to people with different learning abilities * Demonstrated experience in an applicable residential setting * Demonstrated a good working knowledge of the technical details important to the functioning of group residences * Compliance with the Assisted Living Registry (ALR) regulations, policies and procedures related to residential supportive recovery programs. * Demonstrated the ability to teach skills and work effectively with others * Knowledge of theory, principles, and practices in the fields related to the particular residence * Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English * Guided by general procedures or instructions; selects amongst alternate courses of action to assist in the supervision of residence workers and to oversee the operation of residence in the supervisor’s absence * Assesses clients’ practical needs and chooses an approach using accepted procedures and techniques to assist residents in activities of daily living and provide life skills training * Schedules residence workers to provide coverage during periods of staff shortages, reviews work and provides input to performance evaluations * Facilitates participation and joint effort of residents and residence workers. REQUIREMENTS * Ability to successfully complete a Vulnerable Persons Criminal Records Check * Ability to successfully pass a reference check * Current Emergency First Aid Certificate * Valid driver’s license * Personal transportation that is in good repair, insured for business up to $1,000,000 for liability, and which can be used to transport clients * Food Safe Certification or willingness to obtain certification within one month of employment. * Completion and documentation of a course, or a combination of courses, of at least 20 hours duration in one or more of the following subjects: counselling, crisis intervention and conflict resolution, psychosocial intervention for substance use disorders, trauma-informed practice, or willingness to obtain within three months of employment. COMPENSATION As Connective is a unionized environment, the starting wage is $30.95 to $35.52 per hour plus benefits enrollment as per the Collective Agreement.
