AVAILABLE LOCATIONS * San Francisco, US ABOUT THE ROLE Cloudflare’s Senior Forward Deployed Engineers (FDEs) operate at the intersection of product engineering and customer impact. As an FDE, you will be embedded within one of Cloudflare’s most strategic global customers, working side-by-side with their engineering teams to build and deploy solutions using Cloudflare’s platform. Unlike traditional Solutions Architects or consultants, you will write production code, shape technical architecture, and directly influence how Cloudflare products are used at massive scale. You will operate as a technical extension of both organizations - helping the customer ship faster while surfacing real-world product insights back to Cloudflare engineering. RESPONSIBILITIES This role is ideal for engineers who want to: * Stay deeply technical * Work on real production systems * Influence product direction * Build long-term partnerships with world-class engineering teams * Deep Technical Embedding: Serve as the dedicated, long-term technical partner within a strategic customer’s engineering organization, operating as a trusted extension of their team. * Production-Level Engineering: Design, build, and deploy production-ready code and configurations directly into customer infrastructure using the Cloudflare platform. * Technical Accountability: Own the account's technical success across the entire Cloudflare portfolio. Serve as the primary technical point of contact, with other Cloudflare technical resources taking direction from your technical strategy for the account. * Operational Integration: Participate in customer engineering rituals, including daily standups, design reviews, and real-time incident response. * Platform Advocacy & Adoption: Identify opportunities to accelerate the adoption of Cloudflare services, unlocking new capabilities across the customer’s tech stack. * Platform Breadth & Depth: Deep technical competence in building production applications on a modern stack, combined with the willingness and ability to go deep on all Cloudflare product areas. From Workers to security, networking, and observability. * Feedback Loop & Product Influence: Surface real-world edge cases and product gaps directly to Cloudflare’s Product and Engineering teams to influence the developer platform roadmap. * Strategic Relationship Management: Establish and maintain trusted technical relationships with senior leadership (Staff+ engineers, Directors, and VPs). * On-Site Presence: Maintain a regular on-site presence at customer locations to foster deep collaboration and cultural alignment. DESIRABLE SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND EXPERIENCE * Proven Engineering Pedigree: 7+ years of professional software engineering experience. You are a builder at heart, with a track record of delivering production-grade systems, not just advising on them. * Production Ownership & Operational Maturity: You have owned mission-critical services with real-world users. You understand the gravity of on-call rotations, the urgency of incident response, and the architectural rigor required to maintain "five nines" uptime. * Active Practitioner: You are currently in the IDE. You have a "ship-first" mentality and maintain a high velocity, staying current with modern frameworks, languages, and deployment patterns. * Full-Stack Architectural Depth: Broad technical fluency across the entire stack—from frontend performance and backend logic to database optimization and distributed infrastructure. * AI-Native Development: You have integrated AI-augmented workflows (e.g., Windsurf, OpenCode) into your daily development cycle to accelerate prototyping and delivery. * Systems Design & Strategic Thinking: Ability to decompose complex business requirements into scalable, resilient technical architectures. You can visualize the "big picture" without losing sight of the implementation details. * Cloud Ecosystem Fluency: Deep experience with at least one major cloud provider (AWS, GCP, or Azure), including an understanding of serverless, networking, and security primitives. * High Agency & Navigating Ambiguity: You are a self-starter who thrives in "zero-to-one" environments. You don't wait for a ticket; you identify the problem and own the solution from end-to-end. * Executive Presence: Comfortable engaging in high-stakes technical and strategic discussions with VP-level stakeholders, with the ability to translate complex engineering trade-offs into business impact. COMPENSATION Compensation may be adjusted depending on work location. * For Bay Area based hires: Estimated annual salary of $194,000 - $266,000. AVAILABLE LOCATIONS * Austin, US ABOUT THE ROLE Security at Cloudflare is a focused team committed to helping secure both Cloudflare and our customers. The Threat Detection Automation and Intelligence Team is responsible for identifying, understanding and detecting threats to Cloudflare. We are seeking an experienced Threat Intelligence Engineer with experience with machine learning data science to join our proactive security team. This role is a critical blend of two disciplines: leveraging Threat Intelligence (TI) to understand the adversary, and then applying advanced Machine Learning and engineering principles to rapidly and effectively defend our organization. The ideal candidate will transform raw threat data into actionable security measures and automated defenses, significantly reducing our mean time to detect (MTTD) and mean time to respond (MTTR) to sophisticated cyber threats. RESPONSIBILITIES * Intelligence Collection & Analysis: Proactively research, collect, and analyze threat intelligence from various sources (OSINT, commercial feeds, dark web, and internal security events) to understand the current and emerging threat landscape. * Machine Learning and Data Science: Design, implement, and maintain detection use cases for the entire machine learning lifecycle (data ingestion, training, deployment, and inference). * Threat Actor Profiling: Develop detailed profiles of relevant threat actors, their Tactics, Techniques, and Procedures (TTPs) using frameworks like MITRE ATT&CK , and identify potential impacts to the organization. * Actionable Intelligence Dissemination: Produce and disseminate timely, relevant, and actionable intelligence reports and briefings for both technical security teams and executive leadership. * IOC/IOA Management: Engineer the ingestion, enrichment, correlation, and contextualization of Indicators of Compromise (IOCs) and Indicators of Attack (IOAs) into security platforms. * Automated Defense Development: Design, develop, and implement robust automation workflows and playbooks (SOAR) to streamline security operations tasks, including incident triage, alert enrichment, vulnerability management, and threat response actions. * Tool Integration & Optimization: Integrate diverse security tools (e.g., SIEM, EDR, Cloud Security Posture Management, vulnerability scanners, Threat Intelligence Platforms) through APIs and scripting (primarily Python) to create seamless, automated feedback loops. * Process Improvement: Identify manual, repetitive, and time-consuming security processes and engineer scalable automation solutions to increase team efficiency and operational maturity. * Incident Response Support: Provide threat context  to support the Incident Response team during active security incidents. * Cross-Functional Partnership: Collaborate with Detection Engineers, Security Engineers, and Software Developers to embed security and intelligence-driven practices into the CI/CD pipeline and corporate infrastructure. DESIRABLE SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND EXPERIENCE * Understanding of attacker Tools, Techniques and Procedures (TTPs) * Understanding of attack components * Experience threat hunting in a complex network * The ability to read an attack brief or vulnerability report and contextualize the associated risk * Experience validating vulnerability reports and providing impact analysis * Experience performing data gathering and analysis on perceived threats; generating additional contextual data that can be operationalized * Experience with common tools used within Security Operations * Experience utilizing security event information in intelligence analysis * Ability to navigate ambiguity, and provide clarity to complex situations * Ability to work autonomously with a strong sense of urgency, ownership and self drive * Ability to build partnerships and get results across many different stakeholders * Ability to effectively communicate, both verbal and written, to stakeholders regarding relative risk, urgency, and feedback * Highly qualified candidates will have an understanding of nation state motivations and operational capabilities * Experience with Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) tools like Terraform. * Familiarity with data analysis and visualization tools for threat intelligence * Experience with malware analysis and reverse engineering to extract actionable indicators. * Experience: 4+ years of hands-on experience in a Security Engineering, Cyber Threat Intelligence, or Security Automation role. * Programming: Strong proficiency in at least one scripting/programming language for automation (e.g., Python). * Security Concepts: Deep understanding of the cyber kill chain, threat actor TTPs, common attack vectors, networking protocols, and operating system internals. * Automation Expertise: Proven experience designing and implementing SOAR playbooks and integrating security tools via APIs. * Intelligence Tools: Experience working with commercial and open-source Threat Intelligence Platforms (TIPs) and threat feeds. * Cloud Security: Familiarity with security services and automation in major cloud environments (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
