Together, we deliver innovative and ethical solutions that help businesses achieve their ambitions faster.   ENGINEERING MANAGER, CAPITAL The Opportunity  We’re looking for an Engineering Manager to lead the development of our Capital product, powering how businesses conduct business expenses and payment transactions. Capital is the next growth frontier as Adyen grows into a comprehensive financial service provider beyond Payments. This is a rapidly growing space, giving you the opportunity to influence the strategy, own the roadmap, explore and deploy AI first product development, and see it through from early build to a scaled product. As an engineering leader, you’ll work closely with partners across engineering, product, commercial, and operations to deliver a best-in-class Issuing solution that serves both enterprise clients and embedded finance partners. This San Francisco-based role is part of the broader Financial Products organization, which owns the full suite of financial services at Adyen. What You'll Do: * Drive the Roadmap: Develop and execute the technical roadmap for expanding the richness of our Issuing proposition globally, translating ambitious business goals into world-class technical reality. * Technical Authority and Excellence: Act as a technical leader and domain expert for Issuing, challenging and driving technical design and solutions to ensure an exceptionally high technical bar. You will be the point person for product technical decisions, speaking for the product across the organization and to customers. * People & Performance: Coach, mentor, and build a high-performing team from the ground up. You will be responsible for performance management, professional development, and maintaining a culture of rapid, top-notch execution. * Execution & Ownership: Work closely with Product Managers to manage project goals and timelines while proactively addressing technical debt, and enforcing best engineering practices. You are a driver, not an executor. * Client & Product Focus: Maintain a strong product mindset, deeply understanding our clients' needs, financial service industry, and the broader market landscape. You will propose new features and collaboratively shape the future direction of the product. What You'll Do: * People Leadership: 3+ years of experience in people management, with a proven ability to build, retain, and constructively grow high-performance engineering teams. * Technical Depth: You possess a high technical bar and in-depth knowledge of how to build and scale a world-class, API-based financial service. You should be comfortable discussing and challenging decisions made by Senior+ engineers, and working with our tech stack: Java, Postgres, Kafka, RabbitMQ, Redis, Elastic. * Execution Mindset: Strong execution skills are paramount. This includes effective communication, stakeholder management (internal and external), and leveraging strategic thinking to solve problems and get things done. * Collaboration & Influence: Proven ability to lead complex projects involving multiple teams and external partners, demonstrating strong influencing and strategic thinking skills. * Customer Care: you deeply care about the customers experience and take pride in your and your team’s work that delivers a delightful experience.   Why Adyen? The MongoDB Customer Observability Team is a diverse group of contributors working together to help our users manage MongoDB at global scale. The team is responsible for MongoDB Atlas: our database-as-a-service offering and fastest-growing product, which allows users to deploy globally distributed MongoDB clusters in just minutes. We're seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join our team to tackle exciting challenges within the Observability space.  You'll contribute to developing tools and platforms that help our users understand the health and performance of their MongoDB deployments. This includes collecting metrics, monitoring slow queries, and offering actionable insights such as index and schema suggestions that improve the speed, efficiency, and overall reliability of their databases. This role provides a unique opportunity to drive engineering excellence across both dimensions of observability, leveraging technologies being developed within the Customer Observability group and contributing directly to the success of our customers and our product teams. WE'RE LOOKING FOR SOMEONE WHO * Has at least 5 years of experience as a backend or full stack engineer * Enjoys collaboration and being part of a team * Is approachable, curious, and intellectually honest * Is a backend engineer with a willingness to take on frontend tasks or a full-stack developer with a bias towards backend * Has written backend systems in a compiled language (Java, C#, Go, etc.) * Has experience with the design and architecture of a modern, scalable web application * Enjoys chasing down difficult problems in a distributed environment and on an database diagnostic/operation level  * Always strives to expand their knowledge and keeps up to date with new technologies * Is familiar with debugging and troubleshooting production issues  * Strong understanding of algorithms, data structures and their time and space complexity NICE TO HAVES * Has worked with distributed event streaming platforms like Kafka or WarpStream and/or event processing platforms like Flink * Experience developing and writing code observability tools * Previous work in TypeScript, React, and Node.js, particularly maintaining an ecosystem of dependencies * Knowledge of database internals and tuning mechanisms, particularly indexing ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES * Design, write and maintain Observability code and features * Contribute to and lead complex technical projects * Investigate large scale distributed production issues * Collaborate with team members to develop our codebase, best practices and design principles * Work with customers and support engineers to fix issues and become part of our on-call rotation  * Mentor junior team members SUCCESS MEASURES * In 1 month, you'll be familiar with the parts of the system that your team owns, the existing features, and projects within the Observability team and have contributed minor tasks within our codebase * In 3 months, you will be contributing to design and development of your team’s projects and starting to ship tickets regularly  * In 6 months, you will have ramped up enough to take on medium+ sized projects, contribute actively in our technical discussions and proactively improve our codebase and products.
