Senior Controls Engineer

Based in Grenoble and Dunkirk (France), we have started operations our Verkor Innovation Centre (R&D centre and 4.0 pilot line) which is now fully running and operational.   We now focus on enabling  the successful start of production of our Gigafactory in Dunkirk (France). With this facility, our ambition is to ramp-up mass production of low carbon lithium ion batteries to facilitate the decarbonization of European mobility.     As an Automation Engineer in the Process R&D team, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and implementing advanced automation solutions to support both production and new system development. Your primary mission is to enable high-efficiency, low-cost, and highly reliable automated processes that align with the company’s vision of an unmanned smart factory.    This role requires a strong understanding of industrial automation technologies, including PLC - HMI programming, robotics, motion control, and industrial communication protocols. You will work closely with mechanical, vision, and process engineers to ensure seamless integration of automation solutions into production lines. Beyond implementation, you will also lead optimization efforts, troubleshoot complex automation issues, ensure compliance with safety standards and drive continuous improvement initiatives.    This job will report to the Automation & Vision Systems Development Manager and should be capable of designing algorithms independently to fulfill tasks allocated. Structured thinking and data sensitivity are compulsory.

Location: Sines ABOUT THE JOB: As a Senior Project Controls Engineer, you will be a key member in ensuring precision and control in one of Europe’s most ambitious infrastructure projects. At Start Campus, we are not just building data centers; we are constructing Europe’s most sustainable data center. You will be responsible for managing the commercial and scheduling aspects of the projects, ensuring that all work stays on track in terms of time, budget, and execution. You will report directly to the Head of Design & Delivery and collaborate closely with teams to ensure all tasks related to construction and infrastructure are on schedule. Your role will involve preparing capital and lifecycle estimates, reviewing cost planning, monitoring schedule submissions, and identifying risks to ensure that the projects meet performance expectations. RESPONSIBILITIES: * Preparing capital and lifecycle estimates * Provide input on tendering procedures and results * Review PMO cost planning * Review of contractor and vendor pay applications, as recommended by the PMO * Monitor and report on P6 schedule submissions, Level 3 to level 5, from the PMO and contractors. * Understand critical path and key risks. * Provides performance updates / reports views for identification of variances and corrective action  * Regular reporting on all the above PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS: * Estimating/quantity surveying qualification 5-8 years’ experience * Be proficient in Primavera P6 scheduling tools with project experience * Good organisational skills and ability to produce accurate work to deadlines * Data Center or complex projects experience in similar roles. * Ability to work effectively as part of a team while prioritizing work efficiently. * Ability to learn quickly and adapt to new processes, procedures, and equipment. * Ability to prioritize in a complex, fast-paced environment. * Effective written and verbal communication skills. * High proficiency of Portuguese and English (being the day-to-day preferred language)  Why You'll Love It Here: * Impact: Lead world class operations at Europe’s largest and most sustainable data center. * Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams and contribute to business development. * Flexibility: Empowered to lead with autonomy and creativity in a fast-paced, client-centric environment. * Growth: Join a company committed to innovation, professional development, and service excellence.
