This is a pivotal role within the Media Foundation team, essential to shaping Reddit's media experience across all devices. We are seeking a stellar engineer with a deep understanding of scalable media solutions who can drive innovation, deliver top-tier video experiences to our users, and guide other teams in seamlessly integrating with our video API. This role not only involves building robust media capabilities but also contributing to the growth and strength of our media engineering team as Reddit continues to scale. This is a high impact role where you will drive related technical & product strategy, operations, architecture, and execution for one of the largest sites in the world. What You Will Do * Architect a highly modular, easy-to-integrate iOS video player that enables other teams to build features effortlessly while delivering first-class performance for users. * Partner with backend media infrastructure and CDN teams to optimize global delivery and performance. * Work cross-functionally with product, design, and other engineering counterparts to execute on product and business strategy and build novel media products and features that our users will love. * Work with a team of thoughtful, fast-moving, and motivated engineers. Set and define standards that improve developer workflows, recommend best practices, and help coach and mentor engineers on the team to further their professional development. * Utilize AI-assisted development tools to accelerate prototyping, system design, and coding, while applying rigorous judgement to validate and own the final outputs. Qualifications * Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent technical expertise * 5+ years of hands-on, professional software development experience developing user-facing iOS mobile native applications at scale, using Swift * Strong organizational skills, the ability to prioritize tasks and to deliver projects on schedule. * Excellent communication skills. You collaborate effectively with teams in a fully remote environment and discuss complex topics with technical and non-technical audiences. * A track record of leading projects that require cross-team and cross-functional collaborations * Entrepreneurial spirit. You are self-directed, innovative, and biased towards action in fast-paced environments. You love to build new things and thrive in ambiguity and even failure. Nice To Have * Knowledge of AVFoundation for video and audio playback, asset management, streaming, editing, and exporting capabilities. * Familiarity with HTTP Live Streaming (HLS), MPEG-DASH, MP4, and other streaming protocols, as well as working knowledge of streaming frameworks and CDN integration for optimized video delivery. * Hands-on experience optimizing video player performance or building feature-rich products on top of core media playback components. * A proven track record of using data and performance metrics to relentlessly optimize apps, moving the needle from "good" to "world-class" user experiences. * Experience building robust, clean, and scalable APIs/components designed to be easily consumed by other internal engineering teams. What You’ll Do * Contribute to advancing Reddit's growth by designing and implementing content discovery algorithms that prioritize a seamless and highly personalized user experience. * Deeply understand the Reddit Notifications product and drive the vision for the notifications relevance team. * Enhance core recommendation capabilities, including candidate retrieval, ranking models, and budgeting optimization, while designing and testing new pipeline components.  You will also deploy  ML models, integrate LLMs, and ensure robust monitoring and smooth product integration throughout the process. * Serve as the primary ML domain expert, deploying state-of-the-art models at scale, driving architectural decisions, and ensuring robust monitoring and smooth product integration across the engineering organization. * Collaborate across disciplines and with ML, Product, Infrastructure, and DS teams at Reddit to find technical solutions to complex challenges. * Mentor and guide senior and staff engineers in the team. * Partner closely with senior leadership and cross-functional org leads to shape long-term roadmaps, balancing immediate operational wins with strategic technical objectives. Who You Are * 10+ years of industry experience with deep expertise in large-scale recommendation systems, notifications experience preferred.  * Proven ability to identify key opportunities, define roadmaps and drive scalable improvement in  notifications relevance. * Strong experience in building and deploying large-scale ML models using frameworks such as PyTorch or Tensorflow. * Experience working with LLM in production and utilizing generative AI to augment recommendation systems  * Proficiency in object-oriented programming (Python, Golang). * Big Plus: experience with state of the art model architectures * Big Plus: experience building production Agentic AI frameworks.
