1672 Position Summary We are seeking a hands-on, detail-oriented Lab Technician to support product development and prototype builds in a fast-paced startup environment. This role will work closely with the engineering team to assemble prototypes, solder electronic components, maintain laboratory equipment, and manage inventory of consumables. The ideal candidate enjoys building and troubleshooting hardware, is highly organized, and can adapt to changing priorities as products move from concept to prototype and production. Responsibilities Prototype Assembly & Fabrication * Rework through-hole and surface-mount electronic components. * Assemble mechanical, electrical, and electromechanical assemblies from minimal documentation with engineering readily available to answer questions. * Assist with prototype integration, testing, and design iterations. Testing & Engineering Support * Conduct basic functional testing and inspections of various PCBAs. * Assist engineers with test setups, troubleshooting, and product validation activities. * Document assembly processes, observations, and test results. Laboratory Operations * Maintain a clean, safe, and organized laboratory and assembly workspace. * Prepare tools, materials, and equipment for development activities. * Coordinate maintenance and calibration of laboratory equipment. * Ensure compliance with safety procedures and operational best practices. Inventory & Procurement * Monitor inventory levels of laboratory consumables, electronic components, and prototype materials. * Order laboratory supplies, components, and equipment from approved vendors. * Receive, inspect, and organize incoming shipments. Qualifications Required * Associate degree, technical certification, or equivalent hands-on experience in electronics, manufacturing, engineering technology, or a related field. * Experience soldering surface mount parts. * Ability to read and interpret assembly drawings, schematics, and technical documentation. * Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. * Basic computer skills, including spreadsheet and inventory tracking applications. * Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities. Preferred * Experience in a startup, R&D, prototype, or product development environment. * Familiarity with electronic test equipment such as multimeters, oscilloscopes, and power supplies. * Experience with electromechanical assembly and troubleshooting. * IPC soldering certification or equivalent experience. * Experience with purchasing, inventory management, and vendor coordination. YOUR IMPACT As a technician, you’ll be at the center of our operations in our workshops based in Villigen & Böttstein.. You will support the manufacturing and integration of magnet prototypes and experimental setups, contributing directly to the execution of key activities within Proxima’s magnet program. You will play a central role in workshop operations, enabling efficient prototype construction through hands-on work in machining, assembly, and installation. Your contribution will be critical in maintaining execution pace during periods of high activity. You will operate across a wide range of technical tasks, supporting both manufacturing and experimental work, and collaborating closely with engineers and other technicians to ensure successful delivery of prototype systems.
