We’re looking for a Senior Backend Engineer to join our 250+ person Product & Engineering organization at Smartly. Our engineering team builds the systems that power creative automation for some of the world’s largest brands. We enable them to turn a single idea into high-performing, global campaigns by building scalable, reliable infrastructure and services that operate at massive scale. Increasingly, we’re also developing AI-driven workflows that help customers generate, adapt, and optimize creatives in smarter ways. As a backend engineer, you’ll design and build robust services, APIs, and data pipelines that power our product end-to-end. You’ll work on challenges around scalability, performance, and reliability, ensuring our systems can handle large volumes of data and complex workflows with ease. You’ll collaborate closely with frontend engineers, designers, and product managers to deliver features that our customers will genuinely love and depend on. Our backend stack is built around Node.js and TypeScript, and we place strong emphasis on writing clean, maintainable code and building systems that scale. AS A SENIOR BACKEND ENGINEER, YOU WILL: * Have end-to-end ownership of a new platform integration * Design, build and monitor data-intensive microservices systems * Collaborate closely with other engineers, product managers and designers to deliver cutting edge solutions for our clients * Take part and facilitate team activities such as dailies, retros and brainstorming sessions * Coach and mentor other members of the team to follow best practices and industry standards WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR: * Experience in backend development using modern technologies such as Node.js and Typescript * Experience in building robust, complex and distributed web applications * Motivation for solving customers problems and delivering value to customers at a fast pace * Strong collaboration skills & ability to coach other engineers in the team * You are able to work on-site at our Mexico City office 3 days per week Smartly is committed to being the best place to work for growth-minded individuals to thrive - explore more in our Culture Handbook! Let us tell you about the role 📚 As an Engineering Manager at Nextory, you’ll lead our Join Team – the talented group shaping the web experience at the very beginning of the customer journey with us. You’ll play a key role in inspiring potential readers to take their first step into the world of Nextory, combining technical leadership with people development to create seamless, engaging and high-performing digital experiences. Your work will include: Managing and empowering a team of five engineers to grow, collaborate, and deliver impact. Ensuring technical excellence and delivery quality in close collaboration with product and design. Driving transparency, collaboration, and innovation across teams. The main character we’re looking for 👀 You have a solid background as a software engineer and several years of experience leading developers in a fast-moving digital environment. You take pride in building teams that consistently deliver results, and have fun doing it. We believe you thrive on creating an environment where people grow, perform at their best and turn great ideas into measurable results. We believe you: Bring experience from full-stack environments, with a true passion for frontend development. Feel confident working with JavaScript and TypeScript with a Java backend. Understand how to build high-performing web applications, CI/CD pipelines and smart SEO practices Have a track record of improving customer onboarding journeys and turning insights into great user experiences.
