Shape the future of education technology
IST is mid-transformation. We are moving from legacy product lines built over decades to a unified platform that already serves over five million users across the Nordics and Germany and that we are building to scale into new markets.
We know where we are heading. We are building it now.
We are looking for a Forward Deployed Engineer who wants to work closely with our most strategic customers and play a key role in shaping the future of education technology. This role is based out of our Stockholm or Växjö office, with regular collaboration across teams and customers.
About the role
This is not a traditional developer role.
You will act as an extension of our customers’ technical teams, working closely with municipalities and public sector organizations. The role combines deep technical expertise with strong business understanding and offers high autonomy from idea to delivery.
You will operate in a flexible environment, partly outside our standard product lifecycle, enabling fast, agile deliveries with immediate impact.
Take full ownership from discovery phase and requirements analysis through to delivery.
Act as an extension of the customer’s technical team, participating in technical forums and meetings
Work hands-on with data extraction, cloud integrations, APIs, and modern data platforms
Navigate IST’s data landscape, including shared services and product-specific databases
Act as the bridge between customers and IST’s product organization
Collaborate closely with Product Owners and internal experts to ensure fast, effective delivery
Identify scalable patterns and contribute to strengthening IST’s EduCloud and data platform
Role qualifications
We believe you have the following competence profile to succeed in this role:
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, or equivalent experience
Data extraction and data integration
Cloud environments
API integrations
Modern data platforms
Ability to quickly understand and navigate complex systems
Comfortable working close to customers and owning end-to-end delivery
Consulting background is a plus
Ability to combine deep technical expertise with business understanding
Confident and credible in customer-facing situations
Strong communicator, fluent in Swedish and English
Experience in the education or public sector is a plus
Thrives in a dynamic environment where no two days are the same
About IST
At IST, the buyer and the end user are often structurally separated. This makes the ability to navigate both business and technical perspectives critical.
In this role, you will work closely with municipalities and public authorities, ensuring that solutions meet procurement frameworks while also addressing the real needs of educators, administrators, and families.
By translating complex requirements into scalable solutions, you will not only deliver value to individual customers, you will also help strengthen IST’s broader platform and offering.
What we offer
This is a full-time, permanent position. At IST, we apply an office-first policy, meaning we primarily work from the office as we believe physical presence fosters collaboration, innovation, and a strong team spirit. At the same time, we understand the importance of flexibility, if you live farther away, working from the office three days a week with the remaining time remote may be possible. In Scandinavia our offices are located in Stockholm, Växjö, Roskilde and Oslo.
