We are looking to hire a Trading Assistant who will help to bridge the working relationship between the Portfolio Management Team
that all trades are booked.
Work status and location
We are seeking a Trading Assistant to join the Discretionary Macro and Fixed Income (DMFI) team at Schonfeld. You will have a passion for trading and a deep interest in financial markets. In the role, you will be working closely with Portfolio Managers (PMs) whilst proactively collaborating with the Operations department on trade bookings, data analysis, and reports. You will create strong relationships across internal/external stakeholder groups and be able to communicate effectively and work well with others. What you’ll do * Support the Portfolio Managers on trade bookings and overall blotter management * Responsible for trade recaps and management therein to ensure accuracy across the trade life-cycle process and all systems * Oversee position management as well as P&L inquiries within the Portfolio Management System (PMS) and trader systems * Management of FX & Future rolls, expiries, cash balances, and trade/position impactful events * Contribute and solve for automation and tooling wherever possible in reducing risk and gaps * Liaise with stakeholders and Portfolio Managers on various risk and attribution reporting * Ensure compliance and due diligence measures are adhered to and followed in accordance with regulatory and fiduciary responsibilities * Liaise with Operations, Product, and P&L Valuations teams where necessary to ensure vendor and internal support systems are in alignment with Portfolio Managers' accuracy in booking and P&L modeling within the expected firm construct. The expected base pay range is based on information at the time this post was generated. Overview of the Team/Department Emerging Markets team consists of over 30 Portfolio Managers with offices in NY, London, Geneva and Singapore. The team trades a variety of instruments, mostly Rates, FX, Credit and other derivatives, across Asia, Ceemea and Latam, to profit from market themes and opportunities as they arise. The Singapore office consists of more than 10 experienced Portfolio Managers with a strong track record in Emerging Markets Asia macro trading. More about the role The Trading Assistant role provides an opportunity to work closely with Portfolio Managers and interact directly with market makers and sales people. Duties and Responsibilities: * Following the markets, sourcing the best liquidity and executing trades for Portfolio Managers. * Providing market colors and highlighting news/market movers that help Portfolio Managers to make trading decisions. * Booking deals, monitoring positions, and ensuring the integrity of positions held in the system. * Liaising between the trading desk and support functions (middle/back office), as well as external counterparties. * Managing projects that improve desk efficiency as and when they arise Experience Required * Working experience in sales/trading roles from sell-side banks, or execution roles from buy-side funds, with good understanding of EM Asia rates and FX market dynamic * A degree from a reputable university with a demonstrated interest in investment products, in particular, rates, FX and derivatives. * Strong multi-tasking skill – able to prioritise and manage several different tasks at once, and strong organisation skills. * Have an excellent eye for detail and be very thorough in the checks and processes. * Good communication skills, as the role would require constant liaisons with Portfolio Managers, internal support functions and external counterparties. * Good analytical and Excel spreadsheet skill, as the role would require ad-hoc projects and spreadsheet buildings to enhance the efficiency of daily work. * While the desk will provide guidance, the role requires someone who can perform independently and can step up and take on increased responsibilities over time. Description: The trading assistant is a member of the front office physical trading team working directly with the trader to add commercial value through various support functions including the tracking and analysis of commercial risks and exposures inherent to physical commodities trading. This includes tracking physical movements of commodities and associated documents, monitoring market exposures and execution of hedges, tracking contract execution and optionality, reporting and analysis of profit and loss as well as various administrative duties and special projects. The information and reports generated by the trading assistant are essential in allowing the trader to make informed commercial decisions. The trading assistant is immersed in the dynamic global trading process on a daily basis, providing an exceptional opportunity to contribute and learn as a valued member of the trading team. Responsibilities: Maintain report and analyze profit and loss, risks and exposures resulting from the daily physical and derivative commercial activities of the respective trading desk. Ensure routine daily hedging of certain exposures is executed properly. Independently explain and justify the economics of each commercial deal or trading strategy and how changes in the market impact the strategy as well as overall position. Produce daily results and commentary in a concise manner for management and traders. Track the physical movement of commodities and associated coordination of financing banks, shipping and title documents, transfers and associated risks. Identify arbitrage opportunities through coordination of market data and logistics costs. Execution of hedging on Shanghai Gold Exchange and Shanghai Futures Exchange according to the orders instructed by Traders. Track daily mark to market exposure arising from derivatives positions in various financial markets including but not limited to the London Metal Exchange, Chicago Mercantile Group and Shanghai Metals Exchange. Prepare and execute trade related commercial documents including but not limited to physical commodity purchase and sale contracts / amendments, OTC financial instruments, trade and price confirmations. Work closely with trader to coordinate details of each trade from inception to execution including liaising with legal, logistics, credit, risk, finance teams and colleagues in various foreign offices to maximize the value of each transaction and ensure the information flow and capture is sufficient to satisfy reporting requirements and relevance to desk analysis. Input trades into the system. Full responsibility for integrity of data in trading systems used to capture and provide information relied on for commercial matters with direct financial and legal impact. Work with IT department to maximize efficiency in reporting. Provide analysis and manage various special projects as needed to support and maximize opportunities in a dynamic global trading environment. Requirements: - Degree in finance, international studies or other business / analytical field - Fluent communication in English, both writing and verbal. - 2-3 years related experience in a commodity trading environment, but not obligatory - Well spoken, assertive team player capable of effectively communicating in a dynamic global environment - Demonstrable ambition, initiative and goals with proven ability to execute - Entrepreneurial drive and willingness to work non-traditional business hours
