THIS IS WHAT YOU LIKE TO DO Bring your level and games design skills to a maritime simulator that real ship captains and crews train on around the world. VSTEP makes NAUTIS Home, a maritime simulator that people run on their own PC, with built-in ships, environments, and scenarios. You'll have the freedom to design entertaining and skill-building scenarios from variations of existing ones to brand-new concepts you propose yourself. Your daily activities will include: * Analyze existing vessels, environments and scenarios * Read the user forum or talk to clients to learn what the users want and need * Design scenario concepts and turn them into challenging, entertaining scenarios * Build your scenarios using our NAUTIS tools (scenario editor and logic editor) * Make scenarios ready for release (add metadata, briefing, images, and so on) * Use our version control system (Git) * Edit XML or other structured files * Share feedback with developers about the software and bugs IS THIS YOU? You are: * Currently enrolled in a relevant program like Communication & Media Design, Game Design, Interactive Media, or similar * Looking for an internship or graduation project as part of your education or studies * Willing to learn to work with our tools * Interested in maritime subjects * A storyteller, able to clearly communicate your ideas and bring them to life * Located and living in the Netherlands. Willing to commute or relocate to Rotterdam for the internship. JOB TITLE PRINCIPAL TECHNICAL ANIMATOR (GAMEPLAY) Department Technical Art Location(s) Brighton, Prague, Brno Reports To Associate Director Technical Animation Job Type (Permanent, fixed term, internship) Permanent Job Summary The Principal Technical Animator (Gameplay) will help define the technical vision, architectural framework, and long-term strategy for character animation integration across the studio. In this highly influential role, you will champion innovation, driving the adoption of cutting-edge technologies to ensure our games achieve world-class animation quality and responsiveness. You will serve as a technical authority on gameplay animation, solving the studio’s complex R&D challenges while collaborating with design, animation and engineering to establish future-proof pipelines. While not a people manager, you will inspire, mentor, and elevate the technical capabilities of the entire animation department. Duties and Responsibilities * Architect and oversee the high-level design of gameplay animation systems, ensuring scalability, performance, and seamless integration across complex real-time systems. * Drive R&D initiatives to evaluate and implement cutting-edge animation technologies (e.g., advanced Motion Matching, machine learning/AI animation, next-gen physics). * Partner with Engineering and Tech Animation leadership to implement project-wide animation roadmaps and toolsets. * Solve deep, complex runtime bugs and drive animation optimisation efforts to meet strict performance and memory budgets. * Define and document technical standards, best practices, and pipeline workflows for the wider technical animation team. * Collaborate closely with Design and Animation leads to heavily iterate on and perfect 3C mechanics (character, camera, controls), maximizing game feel. * Actively mentor and upskill senior and mid-level technical animators through code/blueprint reviews and hands-on guidance. Essential Skills, Attributes and Experience * Extensive proven experience architecting and integrating gameplay animation systems for AAA titles using Unreal Engine. * Master-level expertise in Unreal Engine’s animation suite (Anim Blueprints, Motion Matching, Control Rig, State Machines, and Sequencer). * Deep technical understanding of low-level animation concepts, including runtime optimisation, memory management, and threading for animation. * Exceptional cross-discipline communication skills, with a proven track record of aligning Art, Design, and Engineering directors on complex technical visions. * Expertise in feature breakdown and scoping, with the ability to translate abstract creative pillars into robust, production-ready plans.. * A profound understanding of gameplay mechanics, game feel, and the mathematical principles behind smooth character movement and physics. * A portfolio or reel demonstrating a history of solving highly complex, innovative technical animation challenges in shipped titles. INTRODUCTION The Defence & Security Business Unit is responsible for delivering designs that range from small RF sub-modules through to complete wireless systems. The engineering teams work alongside other disciplines to deliver these services to clients and are therefore fortunate to work closely with a wide range of groups across the company. As an RF Engineer, with support from your mentors and peers, you will participate in the development of new ground-breaking wireless products, from initial concept through to product specification and verification across defence & security sector. The placement will last 12 weeks. Successful candidates should be available to start their placement between May and October 2026. WHAT WE CAN OFFER The role involves contributing to RF systems design, antenna development, board-level RF circuit design and design validation of our clients’ products. You will have the opportunity to work on ground-breaking wireless designs, for example: * Communication systems * Radar systems * Force protection systems Some of your responsibilities will include: * System design, propagation modelling, protocol design * Field experiments to validate concepts * PCB level RF circuit design and laboratory-based design validation * Development of system models * Antenna modelling using our sophisticated design tools * Participate in the regulatory approval and/or field based design validation * As required, present designs, results and conclusions * Work as part of a close-knit, multi-disciplinary project team focused on delivering design solutions to our clients WHAT YOU CAN BRING We are looking for someone with a degree in a relevant subject, such as engineering, electronics, computer science, mathematics, or physics. You’re someone who: * Has an interest in electronics hardware design and radio frequency design. * Communicates effectively and enjoys working as part of a team. * Is passionate about current technology and stays up to date with new developments. Developing innovative and imaginative solutions requires an inquisitive approach and a willingness to tackle complex problems. You should be keen to learn new skills and open to new approaches. Good oral and written communication skills will be key to interacting effectively within Cambridge Consultants and our clients’ organisations.
