The position is a temporary employment with a maximum period of 3 years. The postdoc researcher position mainly involves research where the candidate will independently plan and carry out scientific studies in energy and environmental technology. The position will be carried out within the framework of the research profile FEC (Future Energy Center), which means that the work will be carried out in close collaboration with industry partners and other researchers within the profile. Future Energy conducts research in the areas of: Renewable energy with a focus on solar and bioenergy and the integration of renewable energy in the energy system Resource efficiency with a focus on energy efficiency, low emissions and recycling of nutrients and materials Digitalization for energy efficiency and better environmental performance The postdoctoral fellow is expected to take initiative, be creative and take responsibility. In addition, the work tasks interact closely with industrial partners. Therefore, the applicant needs to have good collaboration skills. The researcher also needs to be able to disseminate and communicate scientific results and knowledge within existing and new networks, which includes academia, industry and society at large. The research results will be presented at project meetings, conferences and in peer-reviewed scientific journals. As a postdoctoral fellow, you are expected to take responsibility for planning and implementing your studies, take your own initiatives to develop your ideas and knowledge, and be able to collaborate with others both within and outside academia. Teaching or other assignments may be included in the position to a maximum of 20%. As a postdoctoral fellow, you will also be part of the research group Future Energy, where you are expected to contribute to the development of the group. Qualification requirements The applicant is required to have a PhD degree in energy engineering. The applicant must have completed the degree no more than three years before the end of the application period. You have not previously held a position as a postdoctoral researcher in the same or related subject area at MDU that exceeds one year. The candidate should be able to show research experience in national and/or international projects on process modelling and simulations, including both steady state and dynamic modelling and techno-economic analysis and good command of written and spoken English. The candidate should be able to demonstrate good collaborative skills, capacity to organize and conduct work activities independently, experience of or openness to interdisciplinarity as well as a propositional attitude. Your immediate leader will be the Head of Department.  About the project ​ Within the collaborative and knowledge-building project Valoras awarded from the Research Council of Norway (RCN) (KSP25: industry-oriented research on Biotechnology), we will apply environmental and industrial biotechnology concepts to valorise residual streams, supporting resource circularity in Norwegian aquaculture and agriculture. You will join the research group of Prof. David Weissbrodt (URL) and collaborate closely with  Prof. Per Bruheim and Prof. Ingrid Bakke within the Environmental & Industrial Biotechnology research theme of the Microbial Biotechnology division at IBT, as well as research and industrial partners. Our division offers state-of-the-art facilities for bioprocess engineering, microbial cultivation, microbiology, biochemistry, molecular biology, analytical chemistry, mass spectrometry, multi-omics, bioinformatics, and modelling. Our group is embedded in a highly collaborative research environment with strong links across NTNU, national research centres, and international biotechnology, microbiology and water networks. Required selection criteria​ • You must have completed a doctoral degree in biotechnology or a related discipline with a strong background in environmental biotechnology, industrial biotechnology, aquaculture and ocean resources, agricultural bioengineering, or related research areas. • Ability to integrate principles in mixed-culture, co-culture, and pure-culture biotechnology. • Strong experimental and theoretical background combining hands-on expertise in biotechnology, bioprocess engineering, microbial cultivation, (eco)physiology, systems microbiology, microbial ecology, (bio)analytics, bioinformatics and mathematical modelling. • Demonstrated ability and motivation for collaborative research and innovation, scientific publishing, student supervision, and teaching. • If you are in the final phase of your doctorate and can document that the thesis has been submitted or that the defense date has been confirmed, your application can be considered even if you have not defended. Salary and conditions​ As a Postdoctoral Fellow (code 1352) you are normally paid depending on qualifications and seniority. From the salary, 2% is deducted as a contribution to the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund. The period of employment is 3 years.
