The Mechanical Subject Matter Expert Assigned to QA/CX is responsible for ensuring that all electrical and mechanical systems
within a data center are installed, tested, and commissioned in accordance with design intent, project specifications, applicable
codes, and industry best practices. This role plays a critical part in delivering reliable, safe, and fully operational

Mechanical Subject Matter Expert plays a critical leadership role in the successful deployment, execution, and expansion of commissioning (QCx) services across multiple mission-critical projects. This role is responsible for establishing strong operational foundations on new and existing client sites, ensuring consistent delivery of safety, quality, and contractual obligations. The SME will act as a technical leader, mentor, and strategic partner—supporting mechanical commissioning activities while driving team development, client satisfaction, and business growth across data center, semiconductor, and other mission-critical environments. RESPONSIBILITIES: * Deploy to new sites to initiate QCx operations and contract requirements * Establish and maintain strong client relationships for long-term success * Travel to existing sites to assess performance and resolve delivery concerns * Support multiple site deployments annually * Train and mentor QCx Technicians on mechanical commissioning practices * Coach and develop technicians into leadership roles during deployments * Support development of QCx training modules and technical content * Oversee delivery of multiple construction support services contracts * Ensure execution of site-specific contract requirements * Enforce company safety culture in collaboration with EHS teams * Maintain and monitor QCx quality standards across all projects * Ensure proper resource planning and staffing alignment * Conduct site audits for compliance and quality delivery * Resolve project, personnel, and contractual issues * Provide team performance feedback and continuous improvement guidance * Collaborate with internal teams including EHS, Quality, Commercial, HR, and Site Management * Support recruitment and internal mobility for QCx teams * Assist with project billing processes * Contribute to RFP development and submission * Identify and support expansion opportunities within existing contracts * Represent the company at industry events and networking opportunities * Support continuous improvement programs and initiatives * Participate in project safety programs * Stay current with industry standards, technologies, and best practices * Provide data-driven updates to senior management on operations and delivery * Any other duties or responsibilities that may be assigned to you in your role. Role Overview The Technical Manager (Mechanical) will play a key role within the Technical Delivery Team, supporting commissioning activities across all project phases in fast-paced, mission-critical data centre environments. This role is primarily focused on mechanical systems (e.g. HVAC, critical cooling, fuel systems, and associated infrastructure) and the development of Level 0 (L0) deliverables, ensuring consistency, quality, and technical excellence across the business. Working both remotely and in support of site teams, the role will contribute to commissioning strategy, support design assurance, drive standardisation of commissioning delivery, and provide expert technical guidance during complex testing and troubleshooting scenarios. The role will also incorporate duties aligned to a Commissioning Consultant (CxC), including input into sustainability-led commissioning processes (e.g. LEED, BREEAM), with responsibility for ensuring commissioning deliverables meet both client and certification requirements. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with internal teams, clients, and project stakeholders to ensure commissioning outcomes align with programme, safety, performance, operational, and compliance objectives. Reporting to: Head of Technical Delivery Location: Hybrid Key Responsibilities Technical Delivery & Strategy Support the development and continuous improvement of programme-wide commissioning strategies for data centre projects Provide mechanical subject matter expertise across all project stages (design through to handover) Ensure alignment between commissioning activities, project programmes, and client delivery objectives Promote consistency in how commissioning is defined, executed, and reported across projects Contribute to the development and standardisation of commissioning processes, templates, and lessons learned Provide technical escalation support for complex mechanical commissioning challenges Design Phase (L0 Focus & CxC Input) Undertake RIBA Stage 2, 3, and 4 design reviews at key percentage completion stages from a commissioning, operability, and maintainability perspective Review and provide structured input into: Owner’s Project Requirements (OPR) Basis of Design (BoD) documentation Act in a CxC advisory capacity, ensuring design alignment with commissioning best practice and certification requirements (e.g. LEED Fundamental & Enhanced Commissioning, BREEAM requirements) Support the development and review of commissioning specifications within employer’s requirements Produce initial draft Commissioning Plans aligned with project scope, programme, and phasing constraints Define phasing and operational strategies for critical mechanical systems (e.g. chilled water, air systems, fuel, fire/smoke interfaces) Develop and maintain a Commissioning Risk Register, identifying technical, operational, and programme risks Provide input into constructability and commissionability reviews, including system accessibility, redundancy, and failure scenarios Pre-Construction & Construction Support Provide remote technical support to project teams and site-based commissioning managers Review and contribute to commissioning documentation, including: Method statements Level 4–5 test scripts (drafting and technical assurance) Commissioning checklists and procedures Provide guidance on Level 4 testing methodologies, integrated system testing approaches, and fault resolution Support Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) and Site Acceptance Tests (SAT) as required Act as a technical reviewer for mechanical commissioning deliverables, ensuring compliance with client, design, and CxC requirements Support coordination between mechanical, electrical, controls, and BMS disciplines to ensure integrated system performance Ensure quality, traceability, and consistency in commissioning outputs and documentation Acceptance & Handover Support Provide technical oversight of Level 4 and Level 5 commissioning strategies for mechanical systems Support validation of system performance against OPR, BoD, and commissioning acceptance criteria Review commissioning results, identifying trends, risks, and non-conformances Contribute to final commissioning reports and technical close-out documentation Support delivery of commissioning evidence required for LEED/BREEAM certification (e.g. commissioning reports, issues logs, performance validation) Participate in and support lessons learned workshops to inform continuous improvement Qualifications & Experience Essential: Strong background in mechanical systems within critical environments (e.g. data centres, healthcare, or similar) Demonstrable experience in, or suitable knowledge of commissioning mechanical systems (HVAC, chilled water, CRAH/CRAC, etc.) Solid understanding of commissioning processes Desirable: HNC/HND in Mechanical or Building Services Engineering BEng (Hons) or equivalent in a relevant engineering discipline Experience acting in a Commissioning Consultant (CxC) or similar advisory role Knowledge of LEED (Fundamental / Enhanced Commissioning) and/or BREEAM commissioning requirements Formal project management qualification (e.g. PRINCE2) Completed mechanical or building services trade apprenticeship or equivalent practical qualification Skills & Competencies Strong technical expertise in mechanical systems and commissioning methodology Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities Ability to interpret complex engineering designs and documentation Strong communication skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels Organised and methodical approach to documentation and process standardisation Ability to work independently while supporting distributed project teams Additional Information The role will involve collaboration across multiple projects and travel to project sites as required.

About the Role As the Operations Engineer – Mechanical, EMEA (SME), you provide mechanical technical authority across our regional data centers. You will define and drive the mechanical operations philosophy and standards, support Regional Technical Managers and site teams as an escalation point during incidents, and provide input to design and commissioning to ensure systems are operable, maintainable, and resilient throughout the asset lifecycle. The role balances safety, availability, cost, and customer/SLA requirements and partners closely with design & construction, facility management, OEMs, and contractors. Main Responsibilities This position will have overall responsibility for all mechanical aspects of our regional data centers including, but not limited to, planned and corrective maintenance, technical documentation, review of proposed operational procedures, initial analysis of in-service failures, associated project work, and overall system health. The Operation Senior Engineer is responsible for the evaluation and rollout of engineering initiatives along with leading small to medium-scale projects. Interacts with internal and external teams, including design and construction management of new facilities and Yondr facility management and operations. This position coordinates with other regional operational engineering roles and is a member of the global operational engineering within Yondr. * Provide mechanical technical subject matter expertise (SME) across the region, including cooling plant, airside systems, hydronic systems, and associated sequence of operation. * Develop and drive the overall philosophy and standards for site mechanical SMEs, including guidance for SOPs, MOPs, and EOPs and mechanical portions of technical documentation. * Serve as the regional mechanical technical authority during incidents, providing remote/on-site escalation support, recommending response and recovery actions, and supporting the site incident commander to restore systems safely and rapidly while managing risk and customer/SLA impacts. * Provide specific technical input to root cause analyses (RCAs), including failure mode assessment, contributing factors, corrective/preventative actions, and assist with managing third-party experts in RCAs as needed. * Review non-routine/high-impact maintenance and change activity (including contractor RAMS) to ensure appropriate risk controls, method, temporary configuration, and return-to-service criteria. * Provide operational input to design, construction, and commissioning for existing and new facilities, ensuring operability, maintainability, and alignment with the mechanical operations strategy. * Represent Yondr Operations during the commissioning activities ensuring readiness to operate and handover acceptance criteria are met for mechanical areas. * Oversee post-delivery mechanical and controls-related technical items/changes to ensure no adverse impact to system availability or customer SLAs as tenants implement changes throughout the site lifecycle. * Lead/enable lifecycle management for mechanical assets, including evaluation of solutions, repair/replacement strategies, and inputs to capital planning. * Develop, review, and maintain up to date the maintenance philosophy beyond e.g. preventative maintenance strategy (pre and post warranty scope, maintenance intervals), OEM alignment, and spares philosophy/critical spares. * Assist sites as the technical interface with OEMs and vendors for chronic issues, design defects, firmware issues/updates, sequence changes, etc. * Review, develop (as needed), and deliver mechanical technical training to reduce reliance on external training providers and build capability within site teams. * Coordinate with overall operational engineering team and Critical Environment Management (CEM) team to maintain a knowledge base of standard fixes, known failure modes, lessons learned, technical bulletins, and overall data center mechanical knowledge. * Attending required meetings with key stakeholders to represent Operations in technical discussions. * Maintain effective administration of projects and core responsibilities, including timely documentation and stakeholder updates, to ensure transparency on the mechanical scope described above. * Maintain strong Health & Safety awareness in all operational engineering activities. * Other tasks as assigned. Qualifications and experience * Bachelor’s degree in an applicable engineering field preferred, experience would be considered in lieu of a Bachelor’s. * 8 -10 years of relevant experience (with 5+ years of experience working in data centers and/or critical environments preferred). * Demonstrated skills and experience in the design, maintenance, and operation of critical mechanical systems in critical environments, preferably data centers (e.g., chillers, CRAH/CRAC, cooling towers/dry coolers, pumps/valves, heat exchangers, ventilation systems, and hydronic distribution), including understanding of equipment sequences and commissioning/retro-commissioning. * Experienced in the delivery of highly complex technical projects. * Evidence of strong interpersonal skills is essential. * Strong verbal and written communication skills. * Results oriented, highly accountable, and strong organizational skills. * Proven self-starter. * Attention to detail and the ability to understand the big picture. * Ability to perform through change and transformation while adapting to shifting priorities.
