that can eventually be refuelled in orbit and that can carry cargo - and potentially humans in the longer run.
In addition, we are developing advanced propulsion capabilities to support our reusable spacecraft programs. We are building a
dedicated test capability for storable, hypergolic propulsion systems in the 100–800 N class.
As a Thruster Test Bench Technical and Team Leader, you will lead the end-to-end development of a propulsion test facility for
legacy propellants (e.g., MON-class oxidizers and MMH-type fuels), from requirements definition through commissioning and
operating the test facility. You will manage the team that develops, commissions and operates the test facility. This position
requires technical excellence and expertise as well as team management skills.

As a Nyx Test Bench Engineer, you will be part of the team that develops the propulsion test facility for legacy propellants (e.g., MON-class oxidizers and MMH-type fuels), from requirements definition through commissioning and operating the test facility. You will be part of the team that develops, commissions and operates the test facility. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES / TASKS Design of Test Facility * Supporting development of a vacuum hot fire test facility which will be used to develop and qualify orbital thrusters - in tandem with the main designer/team leader * Translate propulsion test needs into facility, utilities, and ground support equipment requirements * Define instrumentation, data acquisition, and control systems for safe hot-fire testing. * Interface effectively with internal engineering teams, customers, and external partners. Assembly & Integration of Test Facility * Manage suppliers and manufacturing activities; support in integration and verification. * Support planning and execute commissioning, acceptance testing, and entry-into-service activities. Safety & Operation of Test Facility * Support hazard analyses (FMEA, HAZOP, risk assessments) and implement mitigation measures. * Develop procedures for handling, testing, maintenance, and emergency response. * Integration of thruster into test bench * Support operations of test facility and perform hot fire, cold flows, decontamination and maintenance activities * Perform maintenance activities of the test facility WHAT WE WOULD LOVE TO SEE FROM YOU * Degree in aerospace, propulsion system, mechanical, chemical engineering, or a related discipline. * 2+ years of hands-on experience with propulsion test benches, preferably with storable/legacy propellants. * Strong background in fluid systems, pressurized systems, and ground support equipment. * Knowledge of safety-critical systems, industrial automation, and test operations. * Excellent communication skills across technical and non-technical stakeholders. At NewOrbit Space, our mission is to engineer the lowest orbiting satellites on Earth to rapidly advance global connectivity and insight. We are currently building satellites that can operate at an altitude of just 200 km - one-third that of conventional satellites. Your role You will be a hands-on technician supporting the build, integration and test of electronic boards, harnesses and mechanical test setups for the AURA gridded-ion thruster. You will work across the full hardware lifecycle - from assembling and inspecting flight-quality electronics and harnesses, through building up bench and mechanical test rigs, to supporting Assembly, Integration and Test (AIT) campaigns on the thruster and its control electronics. You will report into the AIT team and work alongside the electronics, control, software and satellite teams, taking direction from engineers while owning the quality and traceability of the hardware you build and test. Key Responsibilities * Assemble, rework and inspect electronic boards to IPC-A-610 Class 3 standards. * Build and terminate wiring harnesses and cable assemblies to IPC/WHMA-A-620 standards. * Crimp, solder and lace harnesses; install backshells, connector savers and EMC / HV protective measures. * Build up mechanical and electrical test setups, including fixtures, jigs and bench instrumentation. * Support AIT activities on the thruster and its electronics, including functional testing, environmental test support (thermal vacuum, vibration) and continuity / insulation checks. * Read and work from schematics, wiring diagrams, mechanical drawings and assembly procedures. * Maintain as-built records, test logs, travellers and non-conformance reports to support traceability of flight hardware. * Operate and maintain lab equipment — oscilloscopes, multimeters, power supplies, electronic loads and DAQ systems. * Support functional, performance and environmental testing of the thruster, its power processing and control electronics, the propellant feed system, and the spacecraft-level integration. Fundamental Requirements * IPC-A-610 Class 3 certification (or equivalent demonstrated experience to Class 3 standards). * IPC/WHMA-A-620 harness and cable assembly certification. * Proven hands-on experience assembling, reworking and inspecting electronic boards and harnesses. * Experience building up mechanical and electrical test setups from drawings and procedures. * Experience supporting AIT or equivalent integration and test activities on electronic hardware. * Confident use of standard lab instrumentation (oscilloscope, multimeter, power supply, electronic load, DAQ). * ESD-aware working practices (ANSI/ESD S20.20 or equivalent). * Ability to read and interpret schematics, wiring diagrams and mechanical drawings. * Strong attention to detail and discipline in documentation and traceability. Nice-to-haves * J-STD-001 soldering certification (Space Addendum desirable). * Experience working in a cleanroom or ISO-classified environment. * Space or other high-reliability industry experience (aerospace, defence, medical). * Familiarity with ECSS standards, particularly ECSS-Q-ST-70 (workmanship). * Experience working with high-voltage and/or power electronics hardware. * Basic CAD literacy (SolidWorks, NX or CATIA) for interpreting models and marking up drawings. As part of a lean AIT team, you will also support the Goods In function - receiving and inspecting incoming mechanical parts, structures, and materials against drawings and purchase orders, and logging them into the programme inventory. You will report into the AIT Lead and work alongside the mechanical design, propulsion, and satellite teams, taking direction from engineers while owning the quality, traceability, and cleanliness of the hardware you build and handle. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES * Precision mechanical assembly of satellite structure, subsystems, and propulsion system components to engineering drawings and assembly procedures. * Apply and record fastener torques using calibrated tooling in accordance with torque procedures and drawing callouts. * Handle flight hardware in accordance with contamination control, ESD, and cleanliness procedures. * Carry out and maintain cleanroom operations, including monitoring, gowning, and logging to ISO class requirements. * Install thermal blankets (MLI) and other thermal control hardware to procedure. * Build mechanical test fixtures, jigs, and GSE from drawings and instructions. * Support vibration, shock, and structural test campaigns, including fixture build, accelerometer placement, and hardware removal and inspection post-test. * Support integration of the propulsion system into the satellite structure. * Maintain as-built records, travellers, torque records, and non-conformance reports to support full hardware traceability. * Inspect and photograph hardware at defined assembly stages; flag non-conformances to the AIT Lead. * Perform goods in inspection of incoming mechanical parts, structural components, and raw materials — checking against purchase orders, engineering drawings, and certificates of conformance. * Log received items into programme inventory; quarantine and tag any non-conforming or suspect parts for disposition. FUNDAMENTAL REQUIREMENTS * Proven hands-on experience in precision mechanical assembly of flight, aerospace, defence, or other high-reliability hardware. * Practical experience applying and recording fastener torques with calibrated tooling. * Experience working in a cleanroom or ISO-classified environment. * Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, including GD&T callouts. * Experience building and operating mechanical test fixtures and GSE. * Strong attention to detail and discipline in documentation and traceability. * ESD-aware working practices. * Safety-first mindset, particularly around structural test, pressurised systems, and vacuum environments.
