WHO WE ARE - OUR MISSION terralayr addresses the massive deficit in global energy storage. The over-indexing of electricity generation from renewable energy sources leads to large volatility on the energy grid. The main problem is that wind and solar farms are fluctuating and, by definition, unsteady—there is no sun at night, and it is not always windy. This increases the need for flexibility in the form of battery storage systems to balance the grid in times when supply and demand do not match. By buying and developing grid-scale storage assets and virtually aggregating them across a layer, we are creating the world's first energy cloud. Imagine AWS for energy. Through the flexibility we secure, we can market flexibility-as-a-service and hedging products/power insurance to utilities, SMEs, and industrial players and create virtual storage capacity for PV and wind farms. WHAT WE ARE HIRING FOR - YOUR ROLE As our HSE Manager (m/f/d), you ensure the highest standards for health, safety, and environmental matters across terralayr, both in the office and, most importantly, on our construction sites. You build the framework that makes HSE compliance real, documented, and continuously maintained. This role is hands-on and impact-driven, you will shape HSE culture, challenge unsafe practices, and set clear expectations with contractors through strong contract standards and disciplined reporting. WHAT YOU WILL WORK ON - YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES * Build and maintain terralayr’s HSE framework across EPC and LTSA projects, ensuring compliance is documented, audit-ready, and continuously maintained * Publish and evolve an internal HSE policy (incl. escalation paths and information guidelines) * Set enforceable contractor standards, ensuring new EPC and LTSA contracts include HSE requirements and reporting obligations aligned with DD findings, legal frameworks, and best practices * Follow up systematically on all active EPC and LTSA projects, matching your oversight intensity to the project risk profile (contractor track record, location, phase) * Run regular site visits, inspections, and spot checks, and drive corrective actions with contractors and internal teams * Establish robust incident reporting and investigation routines, ensuring every Medical Treatment Case and First Aid Case is reported, documented, and translated into preventative action * Drive reporting discipline across contractors and internal stakeholders, ensuring critical reports are delivered on time and without repeated follow-up * Strengthen HSE culture across the organization through practical trainings, briefings, and clear day-to-day guidance, from construction site teams to back office stakeholders WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR - YOUR QUALIFICATIONS * Proven experience in HSE roles in construction-heavy environments (ideally energy, renewables, infrastructure, EPC) * Strong communication and influencing skills, able to change day-to-day behavior across different seniority levels * Confidence in conflict navigation, you can handle pushback while staying constructive and firm on safety * Pragmatic judgement and a hands-on mindset, you focus on real risk reduction and continuous improvement * High diligence in documentation, you request, verify, and archive reports systematically to keep everything audit-ready * Fluency in German and English (written and spoken), comfortable working with German contractors, authorities, and international stakeholders * Valid German driver’s license (Class B), willing to travel to construction sites WHY YOU SHOULD BE EXCITED ABOUT THIS OPPORTUNITY * Work for a company with a clear mission: A world powered by 100% renewable energy * Have impact from day 1: Your contribution will not only have a positive impact on society; by joining our small and nimble team, your work will make a difference from day one. * Become a Shareholder: In addition to your competitive base salary your compensation includes an ESOP component that lets you participate in the development of our growing company. * Invest into your personal development: We guarantee a steep learning curve combined with a lot of space to bring in your own ideas and shape terralayr’s future. Total Compensation Range: €72,930 - €104,550 THE POSITION BER3 is our Berlin flagship - and the site where we pilot the processes, tools, and automation that later scale across the whole Hive network. We're looking for a Site Lead to own it end-to-end: its people, its performance, its P&L, and its standard of excellence. You'll run a site of ~200 associates across all different areas leading through a team of Area Managers. This is a hands-on leadership role - you set the standard on the floor, not from a desk. You're first in and last out when it matters, calm under pressure, and you turn problems into proposals. Your Key Responsibilities: * Own the building end-to-end. Take full accountability for BER3's P&L, productivity, quality, safety and team health. Hitting monthly, quarterly and annual budget targets and treating every cost line and KPI as yours. Flag deviations early with a plan, not a surprise. * Run safe, high-quality daily operations. Keep associates safe and compliant as your first priority. Own order accuracy, customer NPS and health scores. Be visible on the floor, regular Gemba walks, shift-start presence during peaks, and time close to the work and the merchants you serve. * Lead and grow people. Coach your Area Managers with weekly 1:1s, clear growth paths and honest, regular feedback. Build a skills matrix, develop successors, and manage performance in line with our value of caring meritocracy. Keep a motivated team and low churn of your best people. * Drive improvement and innovation. BER3 is Hive's R&D site, so you'll run it with a try-fast, learn-fast mindset, piloting new processes, tools and automation, and turning what works at BER3 into improvements that ship across the network. Bring at least one measurable improvement initiative per quarter. * Communicate and collaborate. Write clearly (SOPs, incident post-mortems), present with structure (leadership reviews, all-hands), and own escalations end-to-end: including a fast, structured response on critical (SEV1) incidents. Partner with HQ, the WMS/product team, and merchant-facing teams. YOUR PROFILE We are looking for someone who has: * Several years leading a fulfillment center, warehouse or 3PL operation at scale, with direct P&L ownership * A genuine hands-on, people-first leadership style and a never-give-up attitude * Strong analytical skills, comfortable with data, able to read a P&L and act on it * A proactive, solution-first problem-solver who surfaces issues early and brings suggestions * A proven track record of building and developing teams, and of working with a diverse, multicultural workforce * Fluent English; German is a strong plus * Nice to have: Lean / Six Sigma or similar continuous-improvement experience; familiarity with WMS systems and an interest in automation/AI in fulfillment; experience standing up new processes or sites OUR OFFERING * Build something that matters: Hive is redefining commerce operations in a €200B+ market. We already reach tens of millions of consumers a year and power 600+ independent brands, and we're just getting started. * Work with exceptional people: a high-performing, ambitious team, many from McKinsey, Amazon, Shopify, Google, TikTok, and Trade Republic. * Grow with Hive: own impactful projects from day one and grow as we scale. We're a meritocracy: your impact drives your progression, not your past titles. * Time to recharge: 30 vacation days a year, plus a paid 20-day sabbatical every three years. * Competitive compensation: market-competitive salary and an equity incentive plan (EIP) for all full-time team members. * Your setup, your choice: a MacBook (or laptop of your choice) plus accessories like an extra monitor or headphones, and a €46/month productivity budget to spend how you work best (from month 4; €23 for interns and working students from month 3). * Food and fitness: free lunch once per week at the Berlin office + daily 50% subsidy on lunch by ChefCoco, free drinks and snacks, and a €20/month Urban Sports Club subsidy for full-time team members. * Flexibility and connection: flexible working hours, internal training led by Hive experts, regular team events (€30/person/month budget), and company-wide multi-day offsites that bring all of Hive together * Extras: partner discounts on Raus stays, gym platforms, and a corporate benefits portal.
