YOUR IMPACT As Health and Safety Manager, you will own and lead Proxima Fusion’s Health & Safety strategy and operations across our sites in Munich, Switzerland, and the UK. You will establish a consistent, high-performing safety culture across the company while ensuring compliance with local regulations and industry best practices. You will partner closely with facilities, engineering, laboratory, manufacturing, operations, and leadership teams to create safe environments that enable world-class scientific and engineering work. This is a highly cross-functional role with company-wide visibility and impact. WHAT YOU WILL DO * Own and continuously improve Proxima Fusion’s Health & Safety framework across all company locations * Develop, implement, and maintain company-wide H&S policies, procedures, standards, and management systems * Ensure compliance with applicable German, Swiss, and UK health and safety regulations * Coordinate best practices and harmonize safety processes across laboratories, workshops, office environments, and technical facilities * Lead risk assessments, incident investigations, root cause analyses, and corrective action programs * Conduct regular site inspections, audits, and compliance reviews across all locations * Partner with facilities and technical teams on safe design, commissioning, and operation of laboratories, workshops, and experimental infrastructure * Support contractor management, permit-to-work systems, and safe working procedures * Develop and deliver H&S training, onboarding, emergency response exercises, and awareness programs * Build a proactive and positive safety culture through coaching, engagement, and continuous improvement initiatives * Maintain accurate H&S records, reporting dashboards, and regulatory documentation * Act as the primary point of contact for external inspectors, auditors, and regulatory bodies * Advise leadership on strategic H&S priorities, risks, and mitigation plans * Support business continuity and emergency preparedness planning across all sites WHO YOU ARE * You have significant experience in Health & Safety leadership roles within engineering, manufacturing, laboratory, industrial, deep-tech, energy, or research environments * You have strong knowledge of European and/or UK occupational health and safety regulations and standards * You are experienced in building and scaling H&S systems across multiple sites or international operations * You are confident operating in fast-moving and highly technical environments * You have hands-on experience with risk assessments, audits, incident investigations, and safety training * You are an excellent communicator who can influence stakeholders at all levels of the organisation * You are pragmatic, organised, and solutions-oriented * You enjoy building processes from the ground up and driving continuous improvement * You are willing to travel periodically between Proxima Fusion sites * Ideally you possess NEBOSH Diploma, IOSH certification, or equivalent H&S qualification. eg. knowledge of German occupational safety frameworks (SiFa) * Ideally you have experience in laboratory safety, cryogenics, high-voltage systems, radiation safety, or advanced manufacturing environments * Ideally you have experience supporting construction, facility build-outs, or technical infrastructure projects * Ideally you are familiar with ISO management systems and audit frameworks * German language skills are preferred. SUMMARY The Environmental Health & Safety Manager develops implements and maintains all Environmental, Health and Safety programs for the facility to ensure safe, healthy and accident-free work environment by performing personally or through direct reports. CORE COMPETENCIES * Analytical * Accountability and Dependability * Coaching and Mentoring * Communication * Creative and Innovative Thinking * Customer Focus * Decision Making and Judgement * Development and Continual Learning * Energy and Stress Management * Enforcing Laws, Rules and Regulations * Ethics and Integrity * Planning and Organizing * Problem Solving * Research and Analysis * Team Work * Time Management JOB DUTIES * Responsible for environmental management training, job site inspections and reporting * Perform job site environmental compliance inspections including hazard communication, chemical labeling, waste management, spill prevention and storm water pollution prevention through written reports and recommendations * Responsible for monitoring adherence to the company environmental management program by all Flex-N-Gate employees and subcontractors * Coordinates emergency response teams on all shifts at facility * Research, plan, organize and conduct training programs/seminars for Flex-N-Gate supervisors and field employees, with regard to environmental regulatory compliance. * Coordinate the activities of other environmental compliance personnel within one or more divisions and departments, if appropriate * Plan, design, develop, implement, and evaluate departmental environmental management programs * Handles all environmental testing, recordkeeping and submission of reports to local, state or provincial and federal regulators * Provide advice and counsel to management and other employee groups in the application of effective environmental programs and procedures * Design environmental management standards to conform to industry standards and federal, state or provincial and local regulations * Develop and implement complex environmental programs by inspecting or reviewing areas, equipment, processes, and work activities with a focus on continuous improvement of Environmental Management Systems * Coordinate inspections, investigations, and environmental management activities with departments * Research environmental management information to assure the best available methods and equipment are adopted to minimize the hazards in the work place * Advise on improvements in tracking and reporting procedures * Lead and/or participate on teams with environmental, technical, management, and other team members * Periodically act as a team leader to special task forces or teams * Provides direction and/or guidance to less experienced environmental personnel, supervises direct or indirect associates in the department * Maintain up-to-date environmental regulatory knowledge and stay current with industry trends and best practices Requirements * University Bachelor’s Degree in environmental management, health & safety or related field * Five years environmental management work experience in a manufacturing environment * Maintain current waste water and storm water certifications * Thorough knowledge and understanding of environmental regulations, compliance and reporting * Strong organizational skills * Strong communication skills (both verbal and written) * Proficiency with database applications and administration systems, specifically Microsoft Office * Ability to work effectively alone and prioritize * Must be a highly motivated, service and team-oriented individual with an attention to detail * Strong analytical ability * Supervisory and interpersonal skills are required * Troubleshooting ability is required * Strong decision making and problem solving skills * Proven good presentation skills * Ability to manage & prioritize multiple projects * Detail orientated
